I am pleased to announce that Mike

Doran has joined our area management team in South Georgia. Mike will be relocating from Daytona to 109 Latham Rd. #18, Warner Robbins, GA 31088. Mike can be reached at 478-397-9433.

In recent weeks, Mike has been working in Georgia and has made a lot of progress. He has the support of his management team and they're all ready to jump start sales and profits! Jack Hager, Regional Manager

All of the employees and family of the Big Stone Gap, VA KFC enjoyed a Christmas party on Friday, December 19. With a special visit from the North Pole, Santa Claus made sure everyone big or small enjoyed the party. Santa passed out gifts to all the good little boys and girls, and ensured everyone enjoyed the holiday season. Fifty-eight people enjoyed the annual tradition this year, with good food, good times and a visit from Old Saint Nick.

On December 4 & 5, the employees of KFC in Big Stone Gap, Virginia had all of their hard work pay off. Weeks of preparation and planning went into these two evenings. Employees and community volunteers worked diligently to produce a float to travel through the Big Stone Gap and Appalachia Christmas parade. Alongside the float both nights were two familiar faces to anyone that frequents KFC would know, Colonel Sanders and the KFC Chicken mascot. The float was nearly 50 feet in length, and was themed under "Keep Christ in Christmas". The float won 2nd place in the Big Stone Gap parade, and 3rd place in the Appalachia parade.

On December 11th two disparate figures

who work at JRN Columbia’s Human Resources Dept. turned themselves in. Martha “Big M” Sellers and Holly “Molly” Johnson were locked up for “good,” which turned out to be not very long. Associates of the MDA group run by Jerry “Hey Lady!” Lewis, they were released after bail was posted by their friends, who raised about $250 for their release. MDA collected $31,704 for that one lock up, with money still coming in.

Their Maximum Appreciation Facility was at the local Legends restaurant where the inmates were served a nice buffet while they served their sentence. They want to thank those who contributed to their release.

Lehigh University women’s basketball team defeated the Univ. of North Florida on Monday evening and then LaSalle on Tuesday evening to win the Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem, PA. This is the first time Lehigh has won this tournament since year 2000.

It did come at a price. Eleven minutes into the North Florida game star player, Alex Ross, hit a three (ties her for second on all- time list), turned to get back on defense, tripped over her own teammate, and sprained her right ankle! She did not play the rest of the tourney.

She is diagnosed with a "high ankle sprain" and is now in a boot. She will be out a minimum of two-three weeks (if not longer), and this type of sprain may not completely heal until after the season. It still is a bit early to tell at the moment.

Alex is on a full scholarship to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and first broke the single game record for 3-pointers with nine in a 78-45 Lehigh win over Binghamton University (NY). Ross finished that game with 29 points, shooting 9 for 11 from behind the arc and being 1 for 1 from two point range in only 27 minutes on the floor. At that point Alex Ross was the leader in number of 3-pointers in the nation, and 6th in %.

Alex is the daughter of Jim Ross, frequent contributing photographer to the Connection. We congratulate her on a successful season and hope she has a full and speedy recovery.

BETTER SAFE THAN… Randy wrote this note for his store and sent it

out to my area, It never hurts to think safety. I thought you may be interested in using it for some of your other stores. Bill Parker , Area Manager

Subject: Safety and Security... Don't become a statistic! This year more than we have ever seen... We will be lied to, scammed, robbed, and

cheated by more people. There will be more thieves, burglars, and

criminals out because more people are becoming desperate, and crime is what they will turn to.

They will hit places first that have poor security habits such as ...

1. Back door open after dark. 2. Going to Bank after dark alone. 3. Opening back door without using peep hole or after dark. 4. Allowing anyone to open back door instead of management. 5. Keeping safe on day lock. 6. Failing to replace outside security lighting. 7. Leaving or arriving at the store alone. 8. Carelessness late in the evening...be watchful, and aware of anyone entering your restaurant. 9. Failing to follow JRN safety guidelines....post reminders in your store. 10. It really will be different this season...there will be more crime....and more people injured in robbery attempts due to the desperate needs of some. Write down your bad safety habits and

change them now. Enlist all employees to know the safety measures that should be taken everyday to keep yourselves safe as well as JRN’s assets.

We certainly want to see you in 2009! Be Safe! Randy Reece, RGM, Weaverville, NC

NEWS FROM THE FRONT I wanted to let you know that Captain D's

shut down yesterday. Dana (brake factory) is planning to shut down in December. And Corning Glass is laying off people now. Rosie Stull, RGM Danville, KY

Ryan’s Restaurant in Cookeville, TN has also closed.

If you were in Dyersburg, TN around lunch time on Halloween, you might have seen Ms. Clucky, the chicken who came to visit KFC in Dyersburg.

LUCKY CLUCK

This could happen to you. These pictures

are of a dryer fire we had in the Speedway Blvd. store this morning at 1am. It’s a real good thing that we had people working late. They smelled smoke as they started to leave and went back in to double check everything and found the fire. Just imagine if nobody was there. I have made it mandatory in my area that the dryer is not to run overnight. It can only be used when we are at work. I had Concord 2 flash backs and it wasn’t fun. I hope these pictures help prevent this from happening to anyone else. Mike Lake, Area Manager, Concord/Kannapolis

To Carolyn (Smith, RGM Crossville, TN),

Thank you for taking care of our customers after they were first not satisfied, great job, looks as if we won them back. Daron Douglas, Area Manager

NOT CROSS WITH CROSSVILLE

Allen, Thought you’d enjoy these pictures from Chad. Above, Chad is in front of Trafalgar Square which is the center point of London. Martha LeMay-Sellers, JRN Workers' Compensation Coordinator

Chad is Martha’s son, now on a work holiday in England.

I have a picture of a tiger for you to put in the Connection. The tiger, Gwen, and her owner visit our Travelers Rest, SC store about 2 or 3 times a month. She is 10 months old and always draws attention. She is quite friendly and is used to people--but you never know, so we are always careful. Sometimes we give her a raw piece of chicken. Shannon Sutherland, RGM, Simpsonville, SC

JUST A BIG KITTY

GOING NATIVE

BEAUTY ON THE INSIDE Good Morning Sirs,

Just wanted to drop you a note about my visit to one of your stores yesterday. I was going to meet Jay (Webb) at the Berea, KY store. He was a few minutes out so I went on in.

I filled up with gas across the street from the store and as I looked at the store from the outside, I thought, man, that’s an old store. When I walked in I was awed at how beautiful this store was. Cassie the RGM was at the counter. It was her day off, but she was there none the less, a young lady named Chelsee greeted me with a huge smile, I had lunch while I was there and the food was awesome as well. Just wanted you gentlemen to know how impressed I was with the store. The decorations were just beautiful as was the store, had a great time and some great conversation with Cassie and Mr. Anderson the former owner.

Thanks for your time, and your beautiful store. Bud Goff, Area Manager Bud,

Thanks for your compliments. It is always good to hear this kind of news. We are very proud of Cassie and her crew! And of course my buddy Jay isn't too bad either. Harry (Harris Martin, Regional Manager)
