Fall Ministry Guide

Connections CONNECTING PEOPLE TO JESUS FALL 2016

THE THREE R’S

We believe that our lives can be

transformed in remarkable ways by

engaging with Christ each day. That’s

why we’ve developed a model called the

Three R’s to help others visualize a way

of life that follows Jesus and enables us

to live out our Christian lives to the

fullest. It’s not a checklist. It’s a way to

grow and journey step by step.

By learning about and engaging in the

Three R’s, you can grow deeper in your

relationship with God and his people,

serve the body of Christ and celebrate

all the Lord has done in your life.

REJOICE

We gather in worship and celebration to

rejoice in God’s grace and experience

renewal through Word and Sacrament.

RELATE

A growing relationship to God through

his Word, Life Groups and to the

community of believers called

Redeemer.

RESPOND

We respond to God’s love through our

service and witness in the church,

community and world.

Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story… What a summer! It was unforgettable. In June, the South Fort

Collins site welcomed over 400 children to its annual Vacation

Bible School and the Greeley site doubled it's attendance with

more than 70 children. The Houska Garage Band Fundraiser was

a success as more than $9,000 was raised to help pay for K-9

Comfort Dog Cubby and her team’s care and travel expenses.

In late June, The Hong Kong Exchange Students arrived for

two weeks and met new friends, attended local activities such as

the Greeley Stampede, worshiped at both sites and served

others through organizations like Habitat

for Humanity. Our Alaska Missions Team

traveled to Homer and hosted a Vacation

Bible School at Faith Lutheran and

completed service projects for community

members in need. Many families and

individuals helped fill 360 backpacks for

children in need in the Fort Collins and

Greeley communities during our Backpack Buddy Missions Event.

In July, 84 Redeemer students and adult mentors joined 25,000 students in worshiping

our Lord in New Orleans at the National Youth Gathering. After several fun and faith-filled

events, students served the New Orleans community. (Pictured above.) Closer to home,

over 30 middle school students and adult mentors served on their mission trip to Denver.

In July, Redeemer wrapped up the purchase of the Greeley site building, while the

South Fort Collins site Worship Center is now in the beginning stages of a refurbishment

process that will greatly improve our worship experience.

That being said, we praise the Lord for his mercy, grace and compassion. As we kick off

this new ministry year, we thank God for everyone who calls Redeemer their church home

and look forward to a new year of joyfully lifting up God's name, serving him with all our

hearts and glorifying him in all we do.

Senior Pastor It's August

and many of

us squeeze in

last-minute

vacations,

enjoy picnics

and

barbecues

and spend time with children before

they return to the classroom. When

Labor Day arrives, it’s the symbolic end

of summer and many of us think, “I’ve

got to get back into a routine.”

As we wrap-up the "Living the Jesus

Life" Summer Sermon Series, we

anticipate a new season that offers

rhythm and opportunities to walk in

the way of Jesus.

Fall is a great time to examine where

we’ve been and pray about the fresh

places God is leading us. In response

to this seasonal changeover, Redeemer

celebrates its new ministry year with a

kickoff celebration at the South Fort

Collins and Greeley sites. This year it

happens August 27 & 28. Join us!

A well-rounded life is one where

Jesus is at the center of all we do. It’s

a tapestry of rejoicing, relating and

responding to God’s grace. To learn

more, be sure to review this newsletter

and learn how you can sign up for a

Bible study, find a place to serve the

Lord, join a Life Group, get information

about our NextGen Ministries for

children and students or get involved

in a missions project.

Realm is Coming to Redeemer

In mid-September, Redeemer will convert to a new

church data management system called Realm. This

conversion is through the same company we currently

use, ACS Technologies. Realm is fully cloud-based

which will bring more opportunities for our church

family to connect to each other. Redeemer members

will receive an email invite to register for an account in

Realm that will link you to your member record, or

profile, when the conversion is complete. Your online

Access ACS member account will close.

Worship Center Refurbishment

Redeemer’s Worship Center Refurbishment project

kicked off this August. All SoFoCo site weekend

services from August 20 through September 11 will be

held in the Life Center. Plans call to resume worship in

the Worship Center September 17 & 18. During our

reconstruction phase, some events held in the

Worship Center or Life Center may be relocated,

postponed or cancelled. Please check our online

calendar on our website if you think your event may

be affected. Visit: www.redeemerconnect.com/news.

Worship begins and ends with the work of the Altar

Guild. Members of this team take care of the bread

and the wine, the linens, hanging banners, flowers,

candles and baptismal font used in worship services.

When you join this team, you learn and understand so

much more about our worship experience. Please

contact our Altar Guild Coordinators Donna at

Deacons: Caring for Our Church Family

Looking for a resource to assist with a spiritual

need? Need confidential prayer? Seeking information

about Redeemer's ministries or services? Our Deacon

team can help. Following worship, our deacons serve

as prayer partners to pray with you individually for any

need you have. They are stationed outside our

worship areas, wearing red badges. Our deacons are a

caring presence for our members and can be found on

our website. Visit redeemerconnect.com/care-support.

Redeemer’s Board of Directors

Redeemer's Board of Directors consists of 10 members.

There are four officers and five directors, plus the senior

pastor, who is non-voting. The officers and directors are

elected by the congregation and serve two-year terms.

The board sets policies that address how the board and

the senior pastor operate. These policies build on

Redeemer's constitution and bylaws and are based upon

the board's assessment of the needs of the

congregation. The Board represents you, the members of

Redeemer to whom the Lord has entrusted this church.

Free Gift Planning Service

Our Transfer the Blessings ministry is committed to

providing our members the support and

comprehensive expertise needed so they can wisely

plan how they transfer their blessings to their families

and the ministries they love through a Lifetime Plan

for Giving. Jason Jones is Redeemer's Gift Planning

Counselor and works with individuals in our

congregation who want to discover the lifetime plan

that God has planted in their heart. Contact: Jason at

970-988-0305 or [email protected].

Redeemer will soon introduce a new text giving option

for those who want to use their smart phones to give a

general one-time offering, financial or special monetary

gift. As a first time giver, it takes just two minutes to

set up and give any dollar amount you choose. Once

your first gift is processed, the payment method is

saved for future gifts and allows for a faster and more

convenient giving experience. Text to Give is

scheduled to launch this November.

Baptism Redeemer believes

and teaches that

baptism is a

wonderful gift given

by God. The benefit

of baptism is

forgiveness of sins

and the promise of

salvation in Jesus

Christ. If you desire

baptism for yourself or an infant or child,

we ask that you meet with one of our

pastors during one of our monthly

baptism classes. During this time, you’ll

learn the importance of this sacrament

and why Jesus was baptized and calls us

into a life of discipleship beginning with

baptism. Our next Baptism Class is

Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 4:30 to 5:30

p.m. at the South Fort Collins site. Sign

up by contacting Joy Lake (pictured

above), [email protected].

Lord’s Supper We believe the

biblical teaching

that in

communion we

receive the true

body and blood of

Jesus Christ with

the bread and

wine for the forgiveness of sins. Please

contact a pastor for any questions you

may have. We request that those who

commune here:

Are baptized Christians.

Have received special training on the

significance of the Lord’s Supper.

Realize they are sinful and in need of

God’s grace.

Believe that Jesus Christ is their

personal Savior.

Believe that with the bread and wine

they receive Christ’s true body and

blood for the forgiveness of their

sins.

Intend from this time forward to

amend their sinful lives.

REJOICE The mission of the

Rejoice Ministries

Team is dedicated to

connecting people to

Jesus through

worship and

celebration. In large

part, this includes Redeemer’s worship

services, praise teams, choirs,

children’s and youth music,

instrumentalists, guest ministry, as

well as sound & projection for worship.

The Rejoice Ministries Team seeks to

include people of all ages who desire

to offer their gifts to God in either the

music or guest ministry areas. Led by

Phil Barnett (pictured above), this

team supports our weekend worship

and special worship services

throughout the year at our South Fort

Collins and Greeley sites.

“I will praise the Lord all my life; I

will sing praise to my God as long as

I live.”

Fall Guest Ministry Tune-Up

Our annual Guest Ministry Tune-Up is set for Saturday,

Oct. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the South Fort Collins site.

It’s for everyone involved in Guest Ministry from both

sites: Ushers, greeters, coffee hosts, Welcome Center

hosts, MRT, SRT, front desk receptionists, etc. If you

are involved or would like to be involved in Guest

Ministry, be sure to mark your calendar for this

upcoming morning event.

Soundboard & Projectionists

Join the Media Team! We are seeking persons who

enjoy computers, meaningful worship and serving the

Lord with their fingers. We need a person to run

projection during worship at either Redeemer site.

It’s a fun, flexible weekend position. We will train you

until you’re comfortable. Don’t be shy. Is God tugging

at your heart to say “yes?” Contact: LaceyJo Mirus,

[email protected] (SoFoCo) or Matthia

Duryea, [email protected] (Greeley).

Project Harmony Music Mentorship

Project Harmony, led by Redeemer’s Lacey Jo Mirus,

is a music mentorship program for schools with a high

concentration of students who qualify for the free or

reduced-fee school lunches. Project Harmony will

begin its fifth year soon and is currently seeking

volunteers for the 2016-17 calendar year. We are in

need of people to help with the students’ guided

practice sessions. We are looking for volunteers who

love to interact with children and can read music.

Volunteers are needed before and after school at

Martinez Elementary in Greeley.

We highly value the artistic gifts that children and

youth bring to our worship. Throughout the year,

various opportunities are offered for children and

youth to offer their musical gifts in worship. This could

be singing in an ensemble, singing in a praise choir,

playing an instrument, singing a solo, participating in

the youth praise band, dancing, etc. Please let us know

if you have a gift you would like to share in worship!

The Season of Advent

On the three Wednesdays of Advent prior to

Christmas, we offer Advent Evening Prayer

at 7:15 p.m. at our South Fort Collins and

Greeley sites. These brief devotional services

are designed to help people keep focused on

the true reason for the season. Childcare is

provided for little ones.

Christmas Celebration Services

On Christmas Eve we offer four services at 3, 5, 7 &

10 p.m. at the South Fort Collins site. At Greeley, we

offer a 5 p.m. service. All of these services include

candlelight and lots of carols. Our 10 p.m. services

include a celebration of the Lord's Supper. There is

childcare at the 3, 5 and 7 p.m. services, however, no

childcare at the 10 p.m.

On Christmas Day we will have one festival

celebration at 9:30 a.m. at our South Fort Collins site

and one 10:30 a.m. service at our Greeley site.

The Season of Lent

We hold Ash Wednesday services at the beginning

of the Lenten season at noon and 7:15 p.m. at the

South Fort Collins site, and, at 7:15 p.m. at the

Greeley site.

On the five remaining Wednesdays in Lent, we

will offer an All-Church Lenten Evening Prayer at

noon and 7:15 p.m. at the Redeemer South Fort

Collins site. These brief devotional services are

designed to help us renew our discipleship walk

with Christ during this holy season. Holy Week

services include Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Our Easter celebrations are wonderful opportunities for

our guests and members to rejoice in Jesus'

resurrection. At our South Fort Collins site, we have

one service on Saturday at 5 p.m. before Easter

Sunday and four services on Easter Sunday at 6, 8,

9:30 and 11 a.m. While our Sunday 6 a.m. sunrise

service is led by our students, our 8 a.m. worship

service offers a more traditional experience. At our

Greeley site, our Easter celebration service takes place

at 8:40 and 10:30 a.m.

Praise Teams The Redeemer Praise Team

leads the congregation in songs

of praise and thanksgiving to

God. They use contemporary

songs as well as modern arrangements of

classic hymns. They rehearse once a

week and have praise teams at the South

Fort Collins site at the Saturday 5 p.m.

and Sunday 9:30 and 11 a.m. services

and at the Greeley 8:40 and 10:30 a.m.

Sunday services.

Praise teams consist of instrumentalists,

vocalists, projectionists and sound

Joining a Life Group

Life Groups meet year around. They vary by

location, meeting time, and demographics.

We provide weekly Life Group Guides in our

worship bulletins that include prayer, devotions,

thought-provoking discussion questions, ideas and

extra Scripture to think and talk about. It’s when we

are in community with others, gathered around God’s

Word, that we mature as Christ-followers. Visit:

Connect Event Helps Navigate Life Groups

Life Groups offer a place to meet some new friends,

talk about our sermon messages, serve together and

encourage one another. Get plugged into a Life Group

by attending one of our Connect Events that takes

place about four times per year. We’ll talk about what

a Life Group is and isn’t and help you find a leader

with an open group. Save the date for Sunday, Sept.

18 for our next Connect Event. Watch for more

information in our Weekly Connect and worship

bulletin. Questions? Contact: Laurie Bowen.

Start Here | Connecting to Redeemer

You can discover more about what we believe and

value at Redeemer by attending our Connecting to

Redeemer three-session series. This series walks you

through our history, mission, vision and values of our

church. You will learn how you can get plugged in and

become part of our story. While this is the way to

membership, it’s also a chance for you to get to know

us better. Our next series begins October 23. Stay

tuned for registration in early September.

Several Places to Serve at Redeemer

One of the best ways to get connected at Redeemer is

to serve! Not only are you doing God’s work by

showing his love to others, but you also build long-

lasting relationships with others at Redeemer. There

are many ways you can serve at either site. Be sure to

stay tuned to our Weekly Connect and worship

bulletin for announcements. We periodically send

emails to our church family, asking for specific places

to serve. Visit: redeemerconnect.com/respond-and-

playing on the playground or talking about life.

Interested in becoming a mentor? Contact: Andrea

Musselman, [email protected] (Irish) or Ronnae

Berry, [email protected] (Billie Martinez) for

Community Garden & Orchard Harvest

Numerous studies have found that community

gardens produce food worth hundreds of dollars.

Redeemer’s community garden produced over

5,000 pounds of food just this year. Would you

like to help harvest food that will go to those in

need in our community? Go to the Redeemer

website homepage and sign up to serve on

Wednesday or Saturday. Visit:

LWR Quilters Invite You

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Quilting Life Group

invites you to join one of their afternoon or

evening groups as they make quilts, share

devotions and enjoy fellowship. They meet at the

South Fort Collins site the first and third Mondays

of the month at 1 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. starting

September 19.

No experience necessary. Help us make a shawl,

baby carrier or clean bed cover for someone in

need.

Redeemer Around the World!

This year, we will launch “Redeemer around the World!”

as we serve both locally and globally. We hope to

provide next year’s dates and locations for as many as

10 mission trips and activities for youth and adults by

the end of October 2016...starting with local missions

like Habitat for Humanity and extending to Alaska,

Paraguay, Ethiopia and Hong Kong. There will be many

sites and types of trips to choose from. It’s our prayer

that if you have never been on a mission trip before, we

can give you that opportunity in 2017.

Our Hong Kong Mission team travels to Lui Ming Choi

Lutheran School in Hong Kong October 7 to 16. This

will be a great opportunity to witness with our words,

teachings and actions to a school population that is 80

percent non-Christian.

Our team will help students practice conversational

English through classroom presentations in religion,

English, and music classes and meeting one on one

with students, their families, and members of the

faculty.

Habitat for

Humanity Fort Collins Habitat for

Humanity is one of

Redeemer's primary ministries

of service. For more than 10

years, we have worked side by side to

provide decent housing for those in need.

In recent years, we partnered with

Thrivent Financial and Habitat to build

homes in the Fort Collins area. Houses

have been located in Rigden Farms, and,

much of the foundations, framing, siding

and painting was completed by Redeemer

volunteers who gave up their weekends

to give others a safe home to live.

Through your generosity to the Mission

Fund, Redeemer has partnered again with

Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity and is

sponsoring a build this fall. The future

homeowners are the Rosales family who

will worship with us September 17 & 18

and be available to meet. The home is in

the Ridgewood Hills neighborhood on

Trilby. The dedication and wall raising is

Saturday, Oct. 1. All are welcome. Work

days take place monthly from Saturday,

Oct. 15 to the spring.

Nursery Offers Safe & Loving Environment

NextGen Kids offers free nursery care during worship

and select special events for those ages birth to three

years old. We provide a safe, warm, caring and

friendly environment where little ones are loved.

Our nurseries are located at both Redeemer

locations. Each opens 15 minutes prior to worship,

most weekday Bible studies, special events and

seasonal worship services.

Nursery Roll | Our Littlest Members

Welcome to the Nursery Roll at Redeemer.

Encouraging materials are mailed periodically to

expecting parents and children through age three.

Our Nursery Roll is designed to welcome the youngest

members of our church family and provide resources

to help with the spiritual growth of the new child. New

parents are often looking for help in directing their

infant's earliest religious training; we hope this

program will help.

NextGen Kids | Age 3 to Grade 5

We want kids to see how God’s Word fits into their

lives, to learn how to talk to him, and to build

friendships that will last. Each weekend at the South

Fort Collins and Greeley sites, we offer opportunities

to come together for Kids Saturday & Kids Sunday.

Year around, we offer big-fun events like our Vacation

Bible School, Journey to the Cross, Easter Egg-

Stravaganza and more. We look forward to getting to

know you and your family! NextGen Kids is led by

Pam Lange.

Parents, go to our website and click on a NextGen Kid

on August 27 & 28 at the South Fort Collins and

Greeley sites. This event will be a great time of fun

and fellowship. where kids will also enjoy a tasty treat.

Be sure to join us during one of our offerings:

Saturdays at 5 p.m. | SoFoCo Site

Sundays at 9:30 a.m. | SoFoCo Site

Sundays at 10:30 a.m. | Greeley Site

Serving is How We Learn to Care

On August 21 & 22, during our NextGen Kids Saturday

and Sunday classes on at both sites, kids will tie

fleece blankets for needy individuals who find refuge

at Lutheran Family Services or Crossroads Safehouse.

This exciting servant event will teach children to

become faithful followers of Jesus Christ as they reach

out to others who need to know they are loved and

not forgotten.

We offer servant events like this one throughout the

year. Visit: redeemerconnect.com/kids.

Special Event Just for Fifth-Graders

Fifth-graders are in a transitional year. They don’t

always want to be involved in the “kid stuff,” but they

are not quite ready for the “teenage stuff.” That’s why

NextGen Kids offers events just for them. In the fall

and spring, we offer offsite events like pool parties,

trips to Fort Fun and a dodgeball and pizza party. Be

sure to stay tuned to the Weekly Connect, our

NextGen Kids monthly newsletter and worship

announcements to learn about these events and how

you can sign up.

If you have a heart for children, we want to partner

with you in connecting NextGen Kids to Jesus! There

are several opportunities to help build a solid

foundation based on God’s Word in the lives of our

children. We are in need of teachers, classroom

helpers, check-in assistants, worship team singers,

puppeteers and special needs buddies. No previous

experience needed. Contact: Missy Salzer (SoFoCo) at

Cross

Presentation FOR THREES Crosses will be

presented to South

Fort Collins three-year

-olds on Saturday,

Sept. 10 at the 5 p.m.

service and Sunday,

Sept. 13 during the 8

and 11 a.m. services. Greeley’s

presentation is Sunday, Sept. 11 at 10:40

a.m. Register by September 8 on our

website by clicking on the Event

Registration button.

Every fall we celebrate the beginning of

our children’s formal Christian education

by presenting all our three-year-old

children with the gift of a cross. One of

the most important messages to teach

very young children is that Jesus died on

a cross for all our wrongdoings and

mistakes (sins). Because he died and took

our punishment, we get to live and enjoy

his love forever.

NextGen Middle Schoolers

We know that sixth, seventh and eighth-graders

(middle schoolers) are at a critical stage in life where

they are trying to figure everything out (including

themselves). Friends, clothes, cliques, technology,

school, siblings, life pressures, sports and more take

up a lot of their time and energy. NextGen Students is

here to share with them the truth that Jesus is here

for them: to lead them, teach them, care for them,

and empower them to live in his ways.

Middle School | When We Meet

At the South Fort Collins site, middle schoolers meet

for Student Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Student

Center for Bible study, small group time, music and

some hang time. A more formal discipleship

development emphasis takes place during Student

Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with an optional

dinner at 5:30 p.m. for a small cost. At the Greeley

site, students gather Sundays at 8:40 a.m., with

times of games, music and conversation in small

groups at host homes.

Get Connected By Email & Text

NextGen Students uses a safe texting service to keep

our students and families in the know on the go.

Parents & students, go to our website and click on a

NextGen Student page and look for the Get

Connected Opportunity. From there, sign up to

receive text messages and the NextGen Student

Weekly email. It is necessary to indicate your name

and mobile number for each site and grade entry.

Please accept the text to finalize the process. Need

help getting connected? Contact: Wendy Gorman at

[email protected].

NextGen Students offer servant events throughout the

school year. Sometimes we get together as a large

group and tackle a project for a local non-profit

organization. Other times we head out into the

community to assist our neighbors or church family

members. Serving uses lots of everyday skills, but

important skills that mean a lot to someone else -

sweeping, reading, vacuuming, organizing, gardening,

dusting, driving, building, painting, grocery shopping,

listening and more.

NextGen High Schoolers

NextGen Students for high schoolers is here to share

with students the truth that Jesus is here to lead

them, teach them, care for them, and empower them

to live in his ways. We know that this is a critical time

in figuring life out. It’s a time where many are in a

state of flux about their identities. That’s okay. We’re

all work in progress. Jesus is ready to share his loving

message no matter where students are on their faith

journey.

High School | When We Meet

At the South Fort Collins site, high schoolers meet

Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Center for Bible

study, small group time, music and some hang time.

On Wednesdays, high schoolers meet at 6:20 p.m.

for activities, games, music, conversation and devo

time. There's an optional dinner at 5:30 p.m. for those

who want to tackle homework before 6:20 p.m.

At the Greeley site, a new NextGen Student Sunday

is in the works. Contact Matt Furister about getting

involved in high school life (see Page 15).

High School Discipleship Class

Redeemer's High School Discipleship class is for

students in grades 9 through 12 who have not gone

through our formal middle school confirmation series,

but desire to learn and discuss what it looks like to be

a follower of Jesus as well as get the basics about the

Christian life. This class takes place from January to

May during the school year. A Bible (New

International Version) is all you need to get started.

Throughout the year, Redeemer offers various

opportunities for students to offer their musical gifts in

worship. This could be singing in an ensemble, singing

in a praise choir, dancing, playing an instrument,

singing a solo, or participating in the youth praise

band, etc.

Also, our students at the South Fort Collins site have

their own student-led praise band that plays on

Wednesday nights. Talk to Matthia Duryea

([email protected]) about getting

involved.

Thursday Living in Community

One of the greatest things we can do in Christian

community is have fun together, eat, enjoy life, talk

about our ups and downs and laugh at our

experiences along the way. This is why we offer our

Thursday Living in Community (TLC) Night once a

month at the Greeley site. It takes place the fourth

Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

The next gathering is Thursday, Aug. 25. Join us for

a potluck meal, unwind time, prayer and fun.

Greeley Purchases Site

On October 10, the Greeley site will celebrate its sixth

anniversary. Much has changed since it’s beginning

days as more than 125 people now worship at the site

each Sunday. In fact, worship attendance grew large

enough that we were able to offer two new worship

services at 8:40 and 10:30 a.m. Praise God!

Today we are blessed once more as Redeemer

purchased the Greeley site building in July, which

lowered the monthly mortgage and offered our church

a new opportunity to expand and grow.

Did you know that the Greeley site was once an office

building filled with workers in cubicles? Now that it is a

place for worship and fellowship, fire code required we

install a sprinkler system in the event of an

emergency.

That’s just one of the recent changes the site has

undergone and next on the list is sealing and patching

the outside stucco and updating the kitchen. We’ll

keep you posted of changes as they arise.

It’s Going to be a Great School Year

We are truly blessed to have such wonderful

children and great families. We welcome and

appreciate any feedback or suggestions that

you may have so that we can make it a

positive preschool experience for you and

your children.

This year, school begins Tuesday, Sept. 6

and we are so excited to get started.

Routines Make Daily Life Stress Free

Routine is a wonderful thing to have in a child’s life.

In the home, breakfast, naptime, playtime, reading

time all add to a child’s comfort.

At the Early Childhood Center, we also include

regular daily activities including gathering time,

guided play, art, activity centers, Jesus time, music

and movement and more.

And unless there’s lightning or bitter-cold weather,

we head outdoors for fresh air and play!

Enrichment Programs | Before School Care

Redeemer Early Childhood Center is proud to offer

excellent enrichment programs after preschool. Mighty

Kicks soccer, Webby Dance & Tumbling, Lunch Bunch

and music classes are offered. Parents can find out

more information at our open houses on August 31

and September 1 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Lower

Atrium. During the school year, we also offer before

school care Monday through Thursday from 7:30 to

8:45 a.m. Children will be checked into their

classrooms for preschool. The cost per day is $16.

Help support Redeemer Early Childhood Center by

doing something we all do weekly...shop for groceries.

Every fall, you can purchase a King Soopers reloadable

card for just $5 at our South Fort Collins site Church

Office or Early Childhood Center Office during regular

business hours. Use the card to pay for purchases at

King Soopers. Reload up to $500. Our preschool

receives a continual 5 percent donation. Cards never

expire. Use for gas as well.

Enrichment

programs

promote social,

physical and

cognitive and

emotional

experiences.

Why Preschool Matters

During the early childhood years, children need to be

imaginative and immersed in an environment full of rich

language, rhyming games and stories. To help

strengthen reading skills for the future, it’s critical to

parade around in dress-up clothes, build forts and hear

stories. Our staff strives to create these experiences. We

welcome children and help foster self-confidence. Above

all, we want them to be connected with the Lord and

develop a relationship with him. Visit us and see the fun

that happens here at preschool!

Hands On! | Science Day is Fantastic

Each year we offer a Science Exploration

Day where children get a hands-on

learning experience in subjects such as

biology, geology, entomology, physics,

electricity, zoology, wind power and

chemistry. It was a wonderful day of

learning about God's amazing creation

made possible by you!

Learning About the Love of God

The child is at the heart of our curriculum. We

believe its important to address the whole child,

attending to their spiritual, cognitive/intellectual,

social/emotional and physical domains.

To grow spiritually, children need opportunities

to worship, pray and sing and hear that Jesus

loves them and that he is their friend. We do this

each week at Chapel, which is led by our pastors

and staff in the Worship Center.

We value our partnership with our parents here at

Redeemer. Starting in October, teachers put parent

volunteer sign-up sheets on the parent counters. If

you have the first hour of class or even time for the

whole class period, please sign-up to volunteer in the

classroom. Your help creates an environment where all

of the centers can be engaged. We greatly appreciate

your help! Thank you!

Fobs & Key

Cards During preschool

orientation, parents and

guardians receive

secure fobs and key

cards for building entry.

Each device works the

same. Fobs are handy for placing on your

key ring. Cards work well in a wallet. You

choose which device works best. Fobs and

keys should be returned at the end of

each school year. No deposit is required;

however, we charge a replacement fee for

lost fobs and cards. We ask that visitors

enter through our Main Church Office

Entrance and sign in.

Did you lose your fob or card? Please

visit the Church Office for a replacement.

Replacement fobs and cards are $10. New

cards will be provided to your teacher for

pick up.

Meet Jen Redeemer Early

Childhood Center is

excited to have Jen

Mlakar (pronounced my-locker) join the

teaching team.

Jen has served as a

teacher assistant the

past two years and

recently finished her Early Childhood

Certificate. She will be teaching the

afternoon three-year-old class. Jen has

three children, Payton, Owen and Diana.

She loves her puppies and volunteers

often for Vacation Bible School and

Sunday School at Redeemer. Jen has a

passion for teaching and working with

young children.

We are blessed to have her!

ADMIN The Administrative

Team is dedicated to

the day-to-day

operations of the

church, including

Redeemer’s financial

activities, building

and grounds,

communications,

general office support needs, information

and technology, as well as safety and

security.

Led by Kurt Blum (pictured above), this

team helps to connect people to Jesus as

it supports the other six ministry teams,

the staff, our church family and friends as

well as outside agencies and non-profit

organizations.

This team serves as the behind-the-

scenes foundation for Redeemer.

“I know that my Redeemer lives.”

Spring Cleaning | 80 Tons of Rock Hauled

With hundreds of people entering and exiting our

South Fort Collins site building and using our parking

lot, Redeemer experiences a lot of wear and tear.

This spring and summer, thanks to Ken Campbell and

an excellent volunteer team, we painted several

classrooms, waxed the gym floor, fixed lights, doors

and walls, as well as cleaned the carpet in several

areas. Did you notice the rock around the church and

parking lot? About 80 tons replaced the bark and

multch...which kept blowing away due to high winds!

Office Volunteers Needed

We currently have a need for Sunday morning

receptionists and Church Office volunteers to answer

church telephones and be a warm and welcoming

presence. No experience necessary! This is a fun way

to help and provide a much-needed service for the

church. Have questions or need more

information? Contact: Jill Arnold, 970-225-9020,

[email protected].

Altar Flowers & Fellowship Donuts

If you would like to purchase an arrangement for a

special occasion or in memory of a loved one, there

are slots available for many of the upcoming services.

Sign up and pay $35 in the South Fort Collins Church

Office. You may take your flower arrangement home

after the Sunday 11 a.m. worship service. You can also

celebrate a special event by sponsoring the Fellowship

Donuts on Sunday morning. Slots are available each

Sunday for $45 each. This is a fun way to encourage

fellowship after our services on Sunday morning.

Every week, individuals leave coffee mugs,

Tupperware®, Bibles, scarves, coats, jewelry,

sunglasses, glasses and other personal items at the

South Fort Collins site. Missing something? Check the

coatroom near the Worship Center or check in with the

Church Office. Also, there’s a lost and found in the

kitchen near the Fellowship Hall. Missing a casserole

dish? It might be there.

Lost and Found | Where’s My Stuff?

You can be a

welcoming

presence in the

South Fort

Collins Church

Office.

Yes. People leave

their Bibles at

church...but what

was once lost

could be in our

lost & found.

From the parking

lot to the Worship

Center, to the classrooms and

more, Ken Campbell takes care of much of the South Fort Collins

site building and grounds. Are you interested in helping

with special projects (electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.)? What about snow shoveling in the winter to keep others safe?

Safety Ensured by Security Team

Keeping everyone safe is exactly what the Redeemer

Security Team does every Sunday, as well as during

special events, inside and outside the South Fort

Collins building. Team members carry cell phones and

walkie-talkies and stay in close communications with

others stationed around the building.

The team is run by Redeemer members Stu

Fischbach and Craig Lange. They practice drills,

develop strategies and offer tips to the staff to ensure

everyone — including kids and students — stay safe.

Joyful Response | Simple & Free

Joyful Response is a free, electronic stewardship

service offered to members of Redeemer.

Contributions are electronically transferred from your

personal bank account to the Lutheran Church

Extension Fund Steward Account and then to

Redeemer. This safe and secure automatic withdrawal

program encourages regular giving habits, and there

are no administrative cost incurred by Redeemer.

Second Quarter General Fund Offerings

Contributions to our General Fund have remained

steady in 2016. Our General Fund provides the

financial resources that are needed to operate all of

the ministries and programs of Redeemer. From the

General Fund we also fund all of the mission work

that we support locally, regionally and around the

world. As of June 30, 2016, here is where we stand in

terms of income and expenses:

General Fund Contributions $1.588.988

Expenses $1,552,232

+/- +36,756

We are seeking persons who enjoy computers,

meaningful worship and serving the Lord with their

fingers. We need individuals to run projection during

worship services at the South Fort Collins site. Valerie

Yoh, IT Specialist, will train you until you’re

comfortable to get on the schedule. To be a

projectionist, complete our online application on our

website’s Praise Team page. Visit

redeemerconnect.com/music-arts. Questions about

getting trained? Contact: Valerie Yoh,

Connect

Coffee Shop FALL HOURS BEGIN SEPT. 6 Less and less people of our culture are

plugged into a church or believe in the

saving message of the Gospel of Jesus

Christ. That can make sharing Jesus with

our unchurched friends sometimes prickly.

“Should I invite them to worship?” What

about inviting someone to coffee at the

Connect coffee shop? It’s simple. Enjoy a

delicious beverage in a laid-back, Christ-

centered atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi

available. Fall hours begin Tuesday, Sept.

6 and are Monday through Friday 8:15

a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Sundays 9:30 to

11:30 a.m.

Welcome Jill Welcome new South

Fort Collins Receptionist

Jill Arnold. She and her

husband, Kelly, have

four children: Bryant

Schweers (27), Molly

Schweers (25), Alec

Arnold (17) and Lizzie

Arnold (14). Kelly serves as Windsor’s

town manager. Prior to Redeemer, Jill

worked an insurance agent, district

manager, as well as training and

development specialist. She began

working part-time at the Greeley site after

her mother suffered a life-threatening

illness, which allowed her to devote time

to her mom’s recovery. She and her

family enjoy being outdoors, sports, and

travel; Kelly and Jill especially enjoy

playing tennis, bike riding, music and

museums. Her favorite Scripture passage

is Psalm 138:3: “In the day when I cried

out, you answered me, and made me bold

with strength in my soul.”
