AGM postponedThanks for the great turnout at the last meeting, we really appreciate it. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control we couldn’t run the AGM and it will be deferred to the next club meeting. This is just after Scale Models Expo on Wednesday April 27th.

Once again we’d really appreciate it if you could come along. It’s your best chance this year to point the club in the direction you want it to go, only again!

The delayed AGM means the annual subscription setting is also delayed, and we won’t be taking membership renewals until then. Thankfully that doesn’t affect current members’ eligibility for the IPMS (NZ) Nationals, so no worries there.

We’re also still looking for more committee members, and for a new President, Secretary and Treasurer as the incumbents are stepping down. If you think you might be interested let one of the current committee (myself, Richard A, Peter W, Grant P, Rachel P and Grant M) know.

Build the same kit (BSK)We’ll be taking BSK nominations at the next meeting!

Cute planesA new kid on the blockTiger models have just launched a new range of kitsets squarely aimed at younger modellers. Their Cute Plane series are distorted famous WWII fighter aircraft similar to Hasegawa egg-planes. To date, seven have been released including a Spitfire and Bf109. However some of these appear to be available as mystery bonus kits sold with other Tiger models, rather than separately boxed.

They are designed as snap fit and come in a colourful and sturdy box along with full colour instructions and a choice of stickers or decals. The moulding detail and fit is excellent and in the LA-7 there was either a full moulded instrument panel or a plain flat one to put the decal or sticker on. I used the sticker for this which was thin, well printed and had great adhesion. For the rest of the model I used the decals which performed equally as well.

Overall the model was assembled and painted in a couple of weekends due to the usual aircraft masking and painting.

The only disappointment for me was the lack of a pilot as the cockpit is certainly sized to accommodate one.

Recommended to all kids at heart.

Malcolm Thomas

Junior ModellersHi there Junior Modellers,Easter has come and gone with the school holidays just beginning and less than 2 weeks to go until the event of the year, world famous in New Zealand, Scale Models Expo and IPMS Nationals.

Those of you who attended made the most of the extra Easter Saturday session and the April 2nd Session to get those masterpieces finished off in time. Most are ready but some of you will still need to put in a lot of work at home during the April school holidays to get things finished.

Entering the competitions at Scale Models ExpoTo help you to get organized and ensure a smooth registration you can now register on line beforehand:

• scalemodelswellington.org.nz/prergister

Remember to mark which section of the competition you will be entering clearly, Expo or Nationals, you cannot enter one model in both competitions. Online registration closes at midnight on Wednesday so get your models registered soon.

To help you decide in which section of the competition to enter your models:

• Any entry which placed in the 2014 Scale Models Expo should only be entered in the Nationals section.

• Anything built since April 2014 can be entered in the Expo Section or the Nationals Section.

• The Expo section will also be open to entries from the public and has most of the prizes (More open competition but greater material rewards by way of kit prizes).

• The Nationals are only open to club members from model clubs around the country such as Scale Models Wellington. (The Nationals are where the serious modellers go for recognition as the best of the best in NZ, with fewer prizes but more kudos.)

Also please note that:

• Expo and Nationals Junior Class categories ( J) are combined for all age groups - not separate for different age groups. • Junior class entrants must be under the age of 17 (i.e. haven’t reached their 17th birthday) at the time of the competition.• The list of Junior categories is the same for both Expo and Nationals. So for example there’s a J1 Aircraft category in the

Expo, and the same category in the Nationals.

Compeition categoriesJunior categories (all scales) for the Expo and Nationals sections are as follows:

• J1 Junior aircraft• J2 Junior military vehicles• J3 Junior civilian vehicles• J4 Junior science fact, fiction, fantasy and miscellaneous• J5 Junior dioramas• J6 Junior Warhammer-type figures and models• J7 Junior figures• J8 Junior ships

Helping out at Scale Models ExpoOver the two days of the EXPO we will be running four 1 hour “kids build a kit” sessions and I would like teams of three to four juniors at a time to assist the novices during each session at 11am-noon and 1pm-2pm each Saturday and Sunday. We will also have a Junior Modellers stand where you can bring along a kit to build and talk to members of the public, including handouts with information about the Junior Modellers Section and information about our club.

Ray, Paul and parent helpers will supervise the set up and manning of the junior stand including the junior display models (Ray) and table with all prizes for the Expo.

After you have registered and entered your models, placed them in the allocated areas for the Nationals and Expo, our senior members may be asked to help direct other juniors to place their entries in the allocated areas during the registration period.

On the day bring your own basic modelling tools (clearly marked and securely stored) plus a model to work on. Wear white tops please and I will provide some Scale Models Wellington logo caps and name tags on the day. Make sure you have lunch and something to drink as well. After the prize giving please stay behind to help with packing away and the big clean-up.

You will all be given time to roam the vendor stands in pairs and with your parents car givers to look for your “bargain of the year”.

If any parents have space to spare, Ray would really appreciate help to collect and transport tables, models, building tools and mats etc. back to his house afterwards please.

Above see some of the tempting prizes on offer. (We haven’t photographed the Sci-Fi and Warhammer prizes yet.)

SOOO! If you haven’t done so already, last chance to prod your friends and family about the World Famous in New Zealand Scale Model Expo & Nationals.

Session dates and themes for 2016• Apr 23-24 Scale Models Expo and Nationals• May 7 BSK building and priming• June 4 BSK building and priming • July 2 BSK priming and painting• Aug 6 BSK painting and finishing.• Aug 31 BSK judging and prize giving.

The list of Juniors for the combined session at the new time of 1.00pm to 4.00pm is as follows:• Fergal, Nevan, Nathan, Harrison, Madeleine, Eric, Connor, Samuel, Shaquile, Cameron, and William.

If I have missed anyone or if you would like to change your session time or bring a new member along please give me a call well beforehand, PLEASE let me know by the Friday night before the Saturday session. Please remember that we still have a waiting list and more importantly our helpers all give up their Saturday afternoon to help out.
