Doing Our Efforts Simply (D.O.E.S.)

Light is a youth-run volunteer group

that was created by Volunteer Leth-

bridge in early 2015. The goal of

D.O.E.S. Light is to enhance youth

involvement through volunteerism in

the community. D.O.E.S. Light mem-

bers work to develop skills, create new

experiences and open doors to exciting

opportunities. This program empowers

the younger generation to be actively

engaged in the happenings of the com-

munity, while also becoming a part of a

welcoming environment through volun-

teerism. D.O.E.S. Light currently is

made up of 5 members; Genna, Mi-

chael, Zach, Kaatje and Clara. They

are all high school students who are

looking to make positive impacts in

their community.

On August 12, 2015, they put on their first successful event for International Youth Day. At this event they had speak-

ers who talked about youth engagement, local youth musicians, food vendors, many activities and booths from different

community groups. The event had just over 110 attendees and was an inspiration to youth in the community. FCSS

Lethbridge was a huge supporter of this event and without their sponsorship we would not have had the successful day

we did!

D.O.E.S. Light and the International Youth Day event plan to continue to grow and develop. D.O.E.S. Light is seeking more members so that they can have a more active presence in the community. They have already begun planning International Youth Day for next year! The support and funding from FCSS for Volunteer Lethbridge and our programs, such as D.O.E.S. Light, makes amazing opportunities like this possible.
