CCS™ BONDER LIQUID LWLLong Work Life Epoxy Liquid Adhesive For Bonding

CCS Bonder Liquid LWL (Long Work Life) is a two component, long working life, structural adhesive. The physical properties of the product allow its use in applications requiring resistance to creep and stress relaxation, maintenance of mechanical properties at high ambient temperatures and high load bearing strength. Applications include the structural bonding of plastic (fresh) concrete to hardened (existing) concrete; bonding of concrete, masonry, stone, wood, steel and FRP; and anchoring bolts, dowels and rebar into downward oriented holes or horizontal slots in concrete, masonry or stone and as a binder in polymer concretes with aggregates. The working/cure time and viscosity of Bonder Liquid, Long Work Life can be adjusted by blending with the appropriate companion products. The product bonds to dry, damp and wet substrates and meets the ASTM C881 Types I, II, IV and V (and AASHTO M 235) requirements for bonding agents in non-load and load bearing applications.

    Features:

Convenient 2 : 1, by vol. mix ratioLong work life for high temperatures, limited access

Bonds to dry, damp and wet substratesLow exotherm aids mass applications

Adjustable work life/viscosity using related product blendsExceptional substrate wetting/water displacement

Environmentally safe - No VOC solvents

Limitations: The recommended minimum substrate temperature during installation and cure is 45° F. (For installation and cure temperatures down to 40° F or when a faster cure is needed, use CCS Bonder Liquid SWL.) The maximum in-service temperature should not exceed 20° Fbelow the HDT in bonding applications subjected tosubstantial and sustained shear stresses that may cause creep. When bonding plastic concrete containing resinous admixtures, establish the suitability of the concrete mix before actual use. Do not add solvents or otherwise thin this material.

Packaging & Colors: Standard package sizes of Part A & Part B are 3 and 15 gallons. Standard color is concrete gray.

Chemical Resistance: CCS Bonder Liquid LWL has excellent resistance to a wide range of commonly encountered chemicals including acids and bases, aircraft and automotive fluids, cutting oils, etc. Performance is a function of the specific chemical and concentration, exposure times and housekeeping procedures. For information on specific chemicals and exposure conditions, contact a ChemCo Systems, Inc., technical representative.

Surface Preparation: Concrete surfaces may be dry, damp or wet but must be sound and free of all bond-inhibiting substances. Prepare surfaces in accordance with ASTM D 4259 or ACI 503R and ChemCo Systems' specific recommendations. Cleaned concrete surfaces should have a minimum strength of 250 psi in direct tension. Steel surfaces should be cleaned to "white metal" according to SSPC SP 5.

Mixing: CCS Bonder Liquid LWL is a two-component system. The resin to hardener (Part A : Part B) mix ratio is 2 :1, by volume. Read material safety data (MSDS) information

before handling the product. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves when handling the materials. Premix the individual components before drawing from bulk packaging. Transferthe appropriate quantities of Part A and Part B into a mixing container. Use quantities that can be applied before the pot life of the material expires. Blend thoroughly using a Jiffy mixer blade attached to a low speed (350 - 750 rpm) electric or pneumatic drill. Proper mixing will take 2 - 3 minutes.

Installing: Pour mixed material onto the prepared substrate and spread to the specified coverage with a V-notch trowel, squeegee or paint roller surfaces. Allow all coated substrate surfaces to rest for 5 - 10 minutes before pouring fresh concrete or mating with another surface. In plastic to hardened concrete bonding applications, the bond line should be at least 15 mils. Lightweight concrete may require a second coat of adhesive. In other bonding applications, bond line thickness is less critical but should be at least 4 mils above the peaks in the surface profile. For large surface area coverage, CCS Bonder Liquid LWL can be sprayed using a low pressure pole gun with a ¼” or 3/8” tip.

For installation of reinforcement, the slot width or hole diameter is typically ¼” greater than the width of the insert--this represents an annular space of 1/8”. For large diameter and oversize anchor applications, holes can be prefilled with dried pea gravel and then Bonder Liquid LWL parts A and B are premixed and poured to match the top of the gravel fill to complete the polymer concrete mix. CCS Bonder LWL can also be used in premixed grouting applications with selected aggregates, please consult ChemCo Systems for recommendations.

Blending With Compatible Products: The working life/cure time of Bonder Liquid, LWL may be decreased, if required, by pre-blending the Part B with the Part B of the short work life product, Bonder Liquid, SWL. The viscosity of Bonder Liquid, LWL may be increased by blending the mixed product with mixed companion paste product, Bonder Paste, LWL. The long and short work life and liquid and paste forms of the product employ a 2 :1 (by vol.) mixing ratio that must be maintained at all times.

CCS™ Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad ResistantEpoxy Paste Adhesive For Chemical/Radiation Resistant Bonding

CCS Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad Resistance is a two component, long working life, high modulus and creep resistant, epoxy paste adhesive designed for bonding precast concrete segments to concrete or steel, bonding concrete, masonry, stone and steel to themselves or each other and filling spalls, gaps and cracks where high chemical and/or radiation resistance is required. The product is unique in the degree of chemical and radiation resistance attained by an ambient temperature curing epoxy adhesive. CCS Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad Resistance may be applied on horizontal, vertical and overhead surfaces and is non-sag up to 1/4 inch in thickness. The product may be extended with up to 1 volume of dried silica sand without loss of non-sag properties. Sand extension reduces the heat generated by the curing reaction and allows for the placement of thicker cross sections of material when resistance to sag or flow is not an application requirement, CCS Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad Resistance employs a convenient 2 : 1, by volume mix ratio and bonds to dry and damp substrates. Due to its long working life, the product is ideallysuited for applications requiring significant installation time.

FeaturesConvenient 2 : 1, by vol. mix ratio

High chemical and radiation resistanceBonds to dry and damp substrates

No sag or flow at applied thickness of 1/4 inchEnvironmentally safe - No VOC solvents

Limitations: The recommended minimum substrate temperature during installation is 60 deg. F. The minimum substrate temperature for cure is 50 deg. F. The maximum in-service temperature should not exceed 20 deg. F below the HDT in bonding applications subjected to substantial and sustained shear stresses that may cause creep. Do not add solvents or otherwise thin this material.

Packaging & Colors: Standard package sizes of Part A & Part B are 3 and 15 gallons. Color is Dark amber (unpigmented)

Shelf Life: One-year minimum in unopened, original containers when stored between 60 and 90 deg. F in a dry place away from sunlight. Remixing of components may be required upon prolonged storage.

Chemical Resistance: CCS Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad Resistance provides excellent resistance to water, detergent and salt solutions, alcoholic and carbonated beverages, gasoline, kerosene, crude, fuel and mineral oil, strong alkali and inorganic acids in concentrations up to 25% and to most organic acids. Exposure to organic acids, strong acids and alkali in higher concentrations, hot water (above 140° F), bleaches and other highly corrosive chemicals should be occasional and time limited. Resistance under these conditions should be determined by actual test before the product is applied. The product has limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents. CCS Bonder Paste, Chem/Rad Resistance also is resistant to radiation. For specific information on chemical resistance/exposure conditions and radiation resistance, contact a ChemCo Systems, Inc., technical representative.

Surface Preparation: Concrete surfaces may be dry or damp (not wet) but must be sound and free of all bond-inhibiting substances.

Mixing: CCS Bonder Paste, Chain/Red Resistance is a two-component system. The resin to hardener (Part A : Part B) mix ratio is 2 :1, by volume. Read all material safety data (MSDS) information before handling the product. Wear safety glasses and clean neoprene rubber gloves when handling the materials. Premix the individual components before drawing from bulk packaging. Transfer the appropriate quantities of Part A and Part B into a mixing container. Use quantities that can be applied before the pot life of the material expires. Blend thoroughly using a Jiffy mixer blade attached to a low speed (350 - 750 rpm) electric or pneumatic drill. Proper mixing will take 2 - 3 minutes. The preferred aggregate for extending the material is high silica content sand (>85% SiO2), washed, kiln-dried, graded bagged. The sand particles should be round to sub angular in shape. Depending on the application, #16, 20 or 30 mesh size is recommended. Add aggregate to the combined Parts A and B and mix an additional 2 - 3 minutes.

Installing: For fairing, leveling and gap filling applications, apply mixed material on the prepared substrate using a margin or finishing trowel. When bonding two solid surfaces, apply mixed material with a trowel to the surfaces and spread to the specified bond line thickness on both surfaces to be mated. Establish contact between the surfaces using positive contact pressure. Maintain contact pressure until the adhesive has set. Remove excess material (squeeze-out) before the material sets. Fill wide cracks and voids by pumping or caulking the material in place.

Clean up: Excess mixed product is best removed from the work area and tools before it hardens. Use of rags and solvents such as acetone or heavy-duty detergents facilitate cleaning. Cured product may be removed from tools by soaking in an epoxy stripper.

CCSTM GROUT, DUCPUTTYEpoxy for Underwater and Splash Zone Application

CCS Grout, DucPutty is a two-part, non-sag, epoxy paste. This extremely tacky putty adhesive is designed for the protection, bonding and sealing of concrete, steel, wood and FRP in the splash zone of salt-water marine structures. The product can also be use to bond surfaces which are constantly wet or submerged in water even when subjected to heavy wave action. CCS Grout, DucPutty is extremely tacky and is toughened with Kevlar® fibers for durability in high wear and impact-prone repairs exposed to impacts and mechanical shock. Useful for leaks or flowing water applications including sewer pipes.

    TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Concrete coating and spall repair on piers, seawalls, dock floors, drainage ditches, abutments and sewer pipe.

Protection and patching of steel structure surfaces such as pilings, drilling rigs, ship hulls, buoys, well jackets and bulkheads.

Patching and protective coating of wooden boats, pilings and telephone poles.

Sealing seams and ports of grouted steel and fiberglass jackets encapsulating piles.

    As an underwater adhesive.

LIMITATIONS: The material is not recommended for use below 50 °F. Very heavy wave action before set may dislodge material. Placement of sample test patches or repairs are highly recommended before commencement of large-scale repairs or modifications. Do not add solvents or otherwise thin.Product contains no VOCs and is not regulated as hazardous for transport.

PACKAGING: Standard package sizes of Part A + Part B are 1.8 and 9 gallon units.

SHELF LIFE: Two years minimum in unopened, original containers when stored between 60 and 90 °F in a dry place away from sunlight. Remixing of components may be required upon prolonged storage.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: CCS Grout, DucPutty has excellent resistance to a wide range of commonly encountered deicing chemicals, salts and aircraft and automotive fluids. It has limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents. Performance is a function of the specific chemical and concentration, exposure times and housekeeping procedures. For information on specific chemicals and exposure conditions, contact a ChemCo Systems, Inc., technical representative.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:Surface PreparationWet or dry sandblast to remove all loose and deteriorated material, other surface contaminants such as tars, oils, paints, waterproofing materials, rust, barnacles, etc. which may interfere with the formation of a good bond. Cleaned concrete surfaces should have a minimum strength of 250 psi in direct tension. Steel surfaces should be cleaned to "white metal" according to SSPC SP 5.

Mixing - Transfer the appropriate quantities of Part A and Part B from their container onto a flat clean board or sheet of rigid plastic. Begin to mix the components with putty or palette knifeor a margin trowel. Vigorous kneading by hand is required for 3 to 5 minutes to obtain adequate and complete mixing. For mixing larger quantities of material, a heavy duty Kol or similar mixer may be employed. The material should always be mixed under dry conditions. For easier application, mixing and faster cure in cold weather, precondition material at 70-110 °F.Preconditioning at warmer temperatures will reduce the useful life of the mixed components.Installing - For underwater application the technician should wear a diver's wet suit, rubber gloves, a life jacket and be secured with a life line. In a splash zone application the coating should extend to 1 foot below and above the tidemarks.

    a) Unsupported Paste The thick mass of the mixed material is applied to the substrate above the waterline, distributed uniformly over the area to be coated with the gloved hand and worked gradually downwards below the waterline. The average film thickness after distribution of the material over the area to be coated should be 1/4 to 3/4 inch; the edges should be feathered. To establish good contact with wet surfaces the paste should be held against the area for 10 to 15 seconds. Wetted tools such as palette knives or trowels may be used to facilitate uniformity of the coating.

    b) Supported Paste The mixed material may be applied to surfaces using a fabric support. In this application the mixed material is doctored onto canvas, glass cloth or other suitable fabric with a putty knife or squeegee to produce a film thickness of 1/4 to 1 inch. The wet lay-up is transferred to the surface to be coated and hand-pressed in place. Whenever possible, the in place lay-up is secured with temporary or permanent studs or bands to facilitate bonding to the substrate during cure.

    c) Thick Coating If layers or patches thicker than 1" are required, it is strongly suggested that a test patch of the required thickness be placed and allowed to cure for a minimum of 48 hours. This is due to the potential to develop slight shrinkage cracks and the potential for exotherm particularly in warmer waters as the polymer cures under certain environments. The optimum method to get thickness greater than 1" is to build up maximum thickness layers about 24 hours apart.

DESCRIPTION: CCS™ Bonder 217 is a two-component, high modulus, structural; epoxy paste adhesive designed for application on vertical and overhead surfaces. Primary uses include fairing and leveling uneven concrete, filling of wide slots, cracks, gaps and voids in concrete and masonry, bonding of rigid construction materials, e.g., hardened concrete, masonry, stone, steel, wood and FRP to themselves or each other and anchoring bolts, dowels and rebar into horizontal and overhead oriented holes and slots in concrete, masonry stone or wood. CCS™ Bonder 217 bonds to dry, damp and wet substrates and can be applied up to 3/4 inch thick without sag or flow. The product is toughened with Kevlar® to be non-brittle, pick-proof and exhibits high tear resistance. The product does not contain volatile organic compounds (VOC's).

FEATURES: The excellent physical properties of the product allow its use in applications requiring resistance to creep and stress relaxation, maintenance of mechanical properties at high ambient temperatures and high load bearing strength. Exceptional substrate wetting and water displacement properties ensure excellent adhesion under adverse application conditions, e.g., cold, wet concrete. High sag resistance for overhead applications. Toughened with Kevlar® for improved mechanical shock resistance. Long useful potlife and open times.

LIMITATIONS: The recommended minimum substrate temperature during installation and cure is 40°F. The maximum in-service temperature should not exceed 20°F below the HDT in bonding applications subjected to substantial and sustained shear stresses that may cause creep. Do not add solvents to this material. The component viscosity may be decreased by heating with a drum or pailheater for easier mixing and application.

PACKAGING: Standard package sizes of Part A + Part B are 2, 10 and 100 gallon units.

SHELF LIFE: Three years minimum in unopened, original containers when stored between 60 and 90° F in a dry place away from sunlight. Remixing of components may be required upon prolonged storage.

COLOR SELECTION: The standard color of the mixed components is concrete gray. Custom colors are available and may require minimum quantities and/or slightly higher cost.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: CCS™ Bonder 217 Paste has excellent resistance to a wide range of commonly encountered chemicals including acids and bases, aircraft and automotive fluids, petroleum fuels, cutting oils, etc. It has limited resistance to hydrocarbon solvents. For information on specific chemicals and exposure conditions, contact a ChemCo Systems, Inc., technical representative.

SURFACE PREPARATION: Concrete surfaces may be dry, damp or wet but must be sound and free of all bond-inhibiting substances. Prepare surfaces for bonding in accordance with ASTM D 4259,"Standard Practice for Abrading Concrete," or ACI 503R, Chapter 5,"Preparing Surfaces for Epoxy Compound Application," and ChemCo Systems, Inc.'s specific recommendations. Properly prepared concrete surfaces should have a minimum strength of 250 psi in direct tension. Steel surfaces should be cleaned to "white metal" according to SSPC SP 5.

MIXING: CCS™ Bonder 217 Paste is a two-component adhesive. The resin to hardener (Part A: Part B) mix ratio is 1:1, by volume. Premix the individual components before drawing from bulk packaging. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves when handling the material. Transfer the appropriate quantities of Part A and Part B into a mixing container. Use quantities that can be applied before the potlife of the material expires. Blend thoroughly using a Jiffy mixer blade attached to a low speed (350 - 750 rpm) electric or pneumatic drill. Proper mixing will take 2 - 3 minutes. Pre-warming the separate components to at least 70° F or as high as 125° F will allow easier mixing.

INSTALLING: For fairing and leveling applications, apply mixed material on the prepared substrate using a margin or finishing trowel. Pumping or caulking the material into place may fill wide cracks, gaps and voids. When bonding two solid surfaces, apply bonding agent to both surfaces. Establish contact between the surfaces using positive contact pressure. Maintain contact pressure until the adhesive has set. Remove excess material (squeeze-out) before the material sets. To grout bolts, dowels and rebar into horizontal and overhead holes, place the required amount of material in the hole (approx. 40% of hole volume) using a bulk loading caulking gun with a nozzle of appropriate length. Retract the nozzle tip as the hole fills. Insert the bar slowly while rotating to expel air. Secure the bar in the center of the hole. (Albion Engineering is an excellent source for manual and air-operated bulk loading caulk guns.) For external reinforcing applications, flat substrates should have a minimum of 1/16” or 1.5 mm adhesive thickness. For additional application information, seeACI 503R, Chapter 7, "Applying Epoxy Compounds."
