I CAN SCHOOLSAn I CAN School® is a school community that benefits from embracing Autism. We provide flexible packages to schools that include regular mentoring sessions for people on the Autism Spectrum, motivational talks to the school and to parents, and professional development for school staff. Students at an I CAN School® are eligible for preferential registration to our quarterly I CAN Camps.

Our mentoring program has been designed by students and adults on the Autism Spectrum, family members, teachers, principals, and health and education professionals. Our mentoring programs develop self-acceptance, belonging, optimism and confidence. It focuses on preparing students for transitions to high school, TAFE and university, developing core employment skills, and providing participants with leadership opportunities.

As our mentors are predominantly on the Autism Spectrum, participating schools are creating employment opportunities for people on the Autism Spectrum. They join a growing movement of schools and businesses that share our vision – a world that benefits from embracing Autism.

IMAGINATION CLUBS: PRIMARY SCHOOL MENTORINGOur primary school program ‘I CAN Imagination Club’ is a program for students who are Autistic, or who have learning differences or experience social anxiety. Whilst the majority of Imagination Club participants are Autistic, the program can be used by a school to engage a broader range of primary students.

BECOMING AN I CAN SCHOOL®

Each school co-designs their mentoring program with us. A basic package involves regular group mentoring sessions (weekly or fortnightly) for up to 16 students. The unit price of one group mentoring session is $475 GST free.

COMMUNITY MENTORINGOur mentoring programs can be tailored to suit different metropolitan and regional communities. We have successfully started two community networks in north-west Melbourne and regional Victoria, both tailored to respond to the individual needs of the community. I CAN ONLINE GROUP MENTORINGWe offer online mentoring for Autistic students undertaking major transitions during their educational journey such as from primary school to high school and support for when they’re in high school. This program can be accessed by any Autistic student who meets the age criteria. We can also tailor our online mentoring program to regional, rural and interstate schools who would like to benefit from a mentoring program but are unable due to geographical locations.

I CAN CAMPSOur camps provide a great opportunity for teens and young adults to have fun, make new friends and step outside of their comfort zones. Participants are placed in groups facilitated by two mentors, at least one of whom is on the Autism Spectrum. Our camps are focused on personal development, and we spend three days building the social network of young people on the Autism Spectrum, developing leadership skills and empowering them with an ‘I CAN’ attitude.

SPEAKERS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCYThe I CAN Network provides talks and professional development to businesses, schools, conferences, governments and community groups. All of our speakers are on, or connected to, the Autism Spectrum. Their stories of resilience and leadership have inspired people across Australia.

Our speakers provide motivational talks through their personal I CAN stories, and discuss Autism through a variety of topics including governance, mental health, relationships and research.

We also run professional development classes with schools, businesses and organisations. Quiet Magic Method® is I CAN’s method for setting people up for success in schools, workplaces and their home. We create practical workshops based on our knowledge of effective communication, increasing confidence, and leveraging the individual strengths of people on the Autism Spectrum. Our specialty is on strategies that are quiet, enabling and subtle, as opposed to heavy-handed or stigmatising.
