Connection “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you!”
(Psalm 39:7)
Praise God for the people he brings us into contact with. This
week I was able to minister to someone who had recently
become a widower. As we prayed together, he came to the point
of asking God into his life and for forgiveness of his sin. God’s
spirit in action - “the Lord is close to the broken-hearted and
saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
Praise God for the Thrift Shop ministry and the lives touched
each week as they are served and loved by Graham, Pam and the
team.
Today, Pastor Stephen will be sharing the message. Katelyn is
leading the service.
Sunday Morning Prayer is at 8:15am in the Thrift Shop. Come
and join in.
Pray for our search team - Pastor Stephen, Michael F, Rebecca Y
and Billy V as they continue to talk with a potential candidate for
the Associate Pastor - Families, Children & Youth role.
Pray for Lyn K who has had scans and will be having the follow-
up assessment appointment tomorrow. Pray for a good outcome
with the scans and for God’s peace.
Pray for Graham L as he recovers from foot surgery - that the two
toes will heal well.
Pray for those families experiencing grief and loss - Graham &
Janelle L, Malcolm & Marg H, Joan W and Muriel M.
Pray for Jennifer (Michael & Helen’s daughter) as she continues
to recover from surgery and for Michael & Helen as they give
support.
Pray for Elaine B as she recovers from gall bladder surgery - may
she know God’s healing and strength.
Pray for Don P as he recovers from heart surgery - may he know
God’s strength, healing and comfort.
Pray for our ministry leaders as they and their teams plan and
prepare to start ministries in early February.
Pray for those undergoing chemo and other treatment: Andy P,
Anne C’s sister-in-law Sharyn and Mary McK’s sister Julie and
others in our congregation.
Pray for the Qld Baptists special prayer gathering on Saturday 16
February 9am to 12 noon at Gateway Baptist as we look to God
with direction and organisational changes across QB.

Learning how to pray— a heart broken by fear
(Psalm 39)
In 1933, the USA was in the pain of the great depression
that saw 13 million people out of work and the country in
desperate need. On the 4th March 1933, the newly elected
president Franklin Roosevelt in his inaugural address to the
nation spoke this truth into the fear which was paralysing his
people. He declared, “So, first of all, let me assert my firm
belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—
nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyses
needed efforts to convert retreat into advance”. His speech
stirred the nation to stand and face their fears with courage
and unity.
In Psalm 39, David is in the grip of fear. He is indecisive, in
anguish and his life is under threat. He finally cries out to
God, “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end”(v4). Life is fleeting
and he feels that it has been pointless, “He bustles about,
but only in vain” (v6).
But then he is able to face his fears. He finds his hope. “But
now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you” (v7). He is
able to face his fears because he knows the one who can
save. His God.
If you are in the grip of fear, use this psalm as your prayer.
Trust God to be your salvation and wait on Him. He will
rescue you from fear to the security of knowing you are loved
and He is with you.
God bless. Pastor Stephen
