YNIA This year’s Young Neighbor In Action group of Zach and Payton Bonifas, Sam Fairbanks, Adam Grieshop, Meredith Richters, Matthew Rindler, and Emma Simpson, set the goal of having the Parish donate enough food to fill the Banquet Hall. Then that would be given to Food Banks in Miami County, as well as having a raffle basket created for the Festival. There’s more to come, please watch for future details, a report on the mission trip and a donation box in the Narthex. We Thank the Parish for their support this last year in assisting us with our goal. Zach, Payton, Sam, Adam, Meredith, Matthew, Emma; Teri Iverson and John Miller

St. John’s Knights of Columbus Council 5129 Weekly Raffle winners for June 2015 – Congratulations go out to Jeff Griffin, Michael Verdi, Robin Sodja and Jim Stewart! Thanks to all for continued support of the Knights of Columbus and Council 5129.

SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 26, 2015

Upcoming EventsLAY PASTORAL MINISTRY PROGRAM CERTIFICATE OPTION classes begin in late August at the Pilarczyk Center on Needmore Road in Dayton. We are currently interviewing potential students for summer admission. The LPMP is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and offers lay men and women the opportunity to grow in faith, knowledge and skills and to gain the confidence to become what Pope Francis calls, “missionary disciples.” Saturday classes in Scripture, Theology, and Pastoral Studies allow you to maintain job and family commitments. Whether you are preparing for staff level ministry in a parish, school or non-profit agency, enhancing volunteer skills, seeking spiritual growth or discerning a call to the permanent diaconate, the LPMP can help. Call Deacon Hal Belcher at 419-305-5486 for information or set up a personal appointment.

PLANNING FOR SUMMER? Check out www.stjohntippcity.org under the Youth Ministry tab for flyers and registration forms! This summer’s opportunities include: St. Phocus Community Garden (all weeks of Summer), Servin the

Son Camp (August 3-7) and a Cincinnati Reds Faith Day (August 2). Whew! It’s gonna be a fabulous summer! Check out the Youth bulletin board in the Narthex!

SpiritualCATHOLIC UPDATE for July features: INVITING LOVED ONES TO REDISCOVER THEIR CATHOLIC FAITH by Melanie Rigney. Did you know that there are 32 Million “Cradle Catholics” in the U.S. who no longer self-identify as Catholic? This month’s Catholic Update explores Why they left, Why they came back and What we can do. As Melanie points out, we all have

opportunities and the responsibility to bring our sisters and brothers back to the Catholic faith. Grab a copy from the bookrack in the Narthex on the way home to find out more. If you would like copies of past Catholic Updates, please contact Deacon Chuck Wright at the Parish Office.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time; Travis Meeks (Air Force), Nathan McKitrick (Marines), Tabitha McKitrick (Navy), David

Nartker (Navy), and Brad Staddon (Army), and with their loved ones at home. We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace. Please let the office (937-667-3419) know if you would like your loved one(s) listed by name here. We would be happy to pray for them by name.

“In a time of desolation, never forsake the good resolutions you made in better times. Strive to remain patient – a virtue contrary to the troubles that harass you – and remember that you will be consoled.”

– St. Ignatius of Loyola “There is a boy here with five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” (John 6:9) We do not know the boy’s name or why he had five loaves and two fish, nor do we know how he ended up in the crowd following Jesus. He is one of those scriptural enigmas – a fleeting reference with a blank face and no opportunity to speak. Nor is it clear whether he offered his meager meal to the disciples or whether they observed him trying to eat it. We might wonder: “How old was this boy? How big were the loaves and the fish?” There are no details to satisfy our curiosity. All we know for sure is that in Jesus’ presence, an unnamed child saves the day when his humble meal becomes a banquet for the multitude. From this event, we also learn that in Jesus’ company, our own poverty can be transformed into abundance and that the crumbs of our lives can be food for the world. Use our gifts, O Lord, that your work may be accomplished.

(Excerpts from “Living With Christ,” July 2015)

Help CenterSchool Supplies: Again this year, Hispanic Ministry will be collecting school supplies to help the migrant farmworker children at the Tip-Top Canning Camp and also children of St. John’s families who need help. Look for the containers

to place your donation in the gathering area. Or if you prefer to make a cash donation, you may drop a clearly marked envelope in the collection basket.

ST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded the hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers. For further information, contact Mike Begley at 667-2882 or the Parish Office at 667-3419. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be Sunday, July 26. Please meet in the north parking lot of the church for a 5:00 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.

Festival Yard Sign: Please help us cut expenses by returning all Festival yard signs ASAP. Every sign returned is a sign credit. Thank you from the St. John Festival Committee.
