"It is because I am intereted in drawing.I love to paint during my secondaryyears. During my high school years, Iwas not good in any other subjects, so Ihad no choice but to choose to studyarchitecture."

I worked in New York for a year laterand came back to Kota Kinabalu. then Ijoined an architecture firm in KotaKinabalu. After 2 years, I took my Part3 P.A.M (Petubuhan Arkitek Malaysia)Exam and passed with flying colors. Istarted to open up my own architectfirm until today. I have been workingas an architect for around 28 years."

"I don't have a fix salary because itdepends on the project. Before Ibecame a chartered architect, mymonthly salary is around RM1600 permonth."

"After Form 6, I stopped studyingand worked as a draft man for 2years. During that period I didn'tknow how to design. But I did thedraft design of an architect. Afterthat, I went to U.S.A. for 5 years tofurther up my studies and graduatedin 1997.

"Right now, I don’t have the fix job, butif you are a design architect, you’llneed to create designs on the building,sketch it out, then present it to yourclient. If the client rejects your design,you need to make improvements untilthe client approves. You'll need tosubmit your drawings to the localauthorities to get approval. Then youhave to tender out the contractor tostart building. After all is done, as anarchitect, you need to supervise thejob. "

A brief description about Ar. PatrickVun Nyuk Pin's firm. He owns a firm inSabah (Arkitek PV + Tang Sdn. Bhd).The firm not only provides architectureservices locally but to export hisservices internationally.

The company,Arkitek PV + TangSdn Bhd, wasfound in 1995 as anarchitecture firmin Kota Kinabaluand was registeredwith LembagaArkitek Malaysiaand Ministry ofFinance Malaysia.The company havesuccessfullycompleted over 100projects.Currently, theircompany hasabout 30 ongoingprojects, 20 in

design stage andabout 10 sitesunderconstruction.

There are 12employeesworking in thecompany. Thecompany itself hasa partner, Namely,Ar. Ronald Tang.He is the directorof his companyand his role ismanaging aproject.They havebeen workingtogether for over29 years ofexperienced. Thisincludes having 3loyal andcommitted staff working in thecompany for 20years and 3 otherstaff for 10 years.

The vision and missionstatement of thecompany (Arkitek PV +Tang Sdn. Bhd), not onlyproviding architectureservices locally but toexport their servicesinternationally. Theirgoals and objectives areto build a householdname where clientswould look for them.Other than that, theirgoals are also to getan increasement of feesfrom the minimum scaleof their fees. Thecompany does not onlyinto designing servicesbut they also didplanning and projectmanagement services.

PROJECT 1TAMAN EKSEKUTIF GUARD HOUSEThe Taman EksekutifGuard House is one ofAr. Patrick Vun NyukPin's smallest projectwhere it is located inKota Kinabalu, Sabah.The guard house wasbuilt within 2.5 squaremeters and wascomfortably designed bythe architect itself. Before building theguard house, Ar. PatrickVun had to meet up withthe client and discussedbriefly about the clientneeds. Topics during themeeting includes theobjectives,requirements andbudget of doing theproject.

During the process ofthe project, Ar.Patrick Vun produceddetailed drawingsthen, supervised andcommissioned thecontractors at theconstruction site. Healso did a regularcheck on site toensure that theproject is running ontime and right onbudget.When the project isfinally done, Ar.Patrick Vun maintainthe guard housemaking sure that allcomponents of thebuilding are workingwell.

PROJECT 2PPR - PROGRAM PERUMAHAN RALLY

The project 2 of one ofAr. Patrick Vun'sproject and also one ofthe biggest project heever did was aresidential area,namely the ProgramPerumahan Rally(PPR) which waslocated in Sandakan,Sabah. Theresidential area iscalculated about 20acres of land. The process beforestarting theconstruction wasslightly different fromProject 1. He had tomeet up with theclient and discussedthoroughly about the

project. The topicsare include theobjectives,requirements andbudget of the project.Once it is discussed,and approved by theclient, Ar. PatrickVun finalized hisdesign and got theapproval of BuildingRegulationsApproval for apermission to buildthe project.During theconstruction, thesame as project 1process, Ar. PatrickVun produceddetailedworkings, drawings

and other specificnotes forthe contractors.From time to time,Ar. Patrick Vun toochecked on site toensure that theproject is on the rightbudget and makingsure that thecontractors were onthe right track. Butunfortunately for Ar.Patrick Vun, theproject was draggedup to 6 years from 3years time due to thecontractors sillymistakes ofprocrastination. Itwas a very hard timefor the architect andother profession withhim.When the project is

finally done, Ar.Patrick Vun andother profession,namely theengineers, tested,adjusted andcorrected allcomponents of thebuilding and madesure everything wasgoing well. Afterthat, he applied forCertificate ofCompletion andCompliance toensure that thehouse buyers andbuilding owners getto move in as quicklyas possible withoutcompromising theirsafety.Even after finishinga project, Ar. PatrickVun still maintain

the site and fullyholds responsibilityon the project.
