▶ Dignitaries inaugurated IESS IV by cutting the ribbon.
On the background of Hon'ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s 'Make in India' campaign, IESS IV holds special importance. This show not only helps companies to display their products and services but also gives them a chance to market themselves.
Creating new tiesWith the same mission, Poland has
been chosen as the partner country for the event. Talking about it, Lukaszzuk said, “It is a great honor to be a partner country in the show like IESS. India and Poland have a long history of trade relationship. It will further be reinforced by such initiatives. He hoped that participants from both the countries have fruitful discussions at the event.”
Furthermore, Kher said, “Enginee-ring sector plays an important role in Indian exports. Figures show that around one-fifth of the total exports consist of engineering goods.” He further added, “The engineering sector needs to be aided with the right promo-tional and branding activities. IESS is a platform for companies to brand and market themselves.”
Further, talking about the show, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Ravi Capoor said, “Each edition of the show gives incremental returns to the
industry as a whole. Vision for this is that it should be a mega show in coming years. The aim for the seventh or eighth edition would be to host 1,000 exhibitors and making it a mega show,”
Achieving milestones
In addition to the inauguration of IESS, during the glittering event, EEPC India also celebrated a milestone of stepping into the 60th year by launching a new logo. Moreover, EEPC India unveiled the calendar for 2015 on the theme of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
On a concluding note, Sr Vice Chairman, EEPC India, TS Bhasin said, “EEPC India will continue to support its members through various exercises. Hon'ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s 'Make in India' campaign is further expected to boost the manufacturing industry and engineering exports.”

Future Forward: enhancing trade and economic Growth
Kindly give an overview of India’s current economy.Bhaskar Sarkar: India is one of the fastest growing economy of the world with an estimated growth of 5-6 per cent in FY14. India’s expected robust growth in the next 15-20 years means that its contribution to global growth will surpass that of any individual advanced economy except the US.
Manufacturing exports constitute the lion’s share of merchandise exports of countries. According to the study by Ernst & Young, India is the fourth destination country for FDI in terms of projects. The SME sector forms the backbone of manufacturing exports from India.
In India, SMEs constitute more than 80 per cent of the total number of industrial enterprises and support industrial development. They contribute nearly 45 per cent to manufacturing and about 40 per cent to the Indian export sector. Their contribution to the Indian GDP is around 8 per cent.
Please elaborate on the signifi-cant role played by EEPC India’s flagship event IESS in promoting the SME sector?Sarkar: To promote this SME sector and to ensure the sourcing of global manufacturers from the SMEs,
IESS IV has already begun with a bang. The show is proving to be the ideal platform for sourcing and networking.
Executive Director, EEPC India, Bhaskar Sarkar speaks in brief about the various initiatives that are being undertaken
to put a spot light on SMEs and make India a manufacturing hub.
"India’s expected robust growth in the next 15-20 years means that its contribution to global growth will surpass that of any individual advanced economy except the US."
-Executive Director, EEPC India,
Bhaskar Sarkar
EEPC India conceptualized and organized this Indian Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) with the support from Department of Commerce, Government of India.
Today IESS is India’s largest display of engineering products and services and focuses on building global partnerships with India. It is recognized as the only sourcing event in India—showcasing the latest technologies and a preferred meeting place for buyers and sellers from all over the world.
IESS 2014 has expanded its ambit and included industrial supply in association with Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt Ltd (HMFI) and Deutsche Messe AG, Germany. Leading Multinationals such as ABB, Danfoss, Claas, Cummins, Inverto, Kubota, Pentair, etc., have been successfully using IESS exhibi-tion as their sourcing platform.
What are the current challenges Indian companies faces in increa-sing their global footprints?Sarkar: Although there are multiple challenges at different levels affecting engineering exports, yet significant development has been growing in the government’s under-standing towards policy rationaliza-tion and that indeed has been very encouraging. Sectors like surgical
equipments, pharmaceutical machi-neries & medical devices, defense and security are some of the sunrise sectors and are brought under the radars of policy reviews and regulatory reforms. Exim policies for promoting enhanced manufactu-ring capabilities in the capital goods sector is also being reviewed for rationalization.
Could you elaborate a little more in detail?Sarkar: In the engineering segment, for instance, freight cost remains one of the biggest impediments to retain competitiveness. Inadequate port infrastructure, complex custom procedural checks and clearances are the other deterring factors to competitiveness. Indian engineering has a significant unrealized poten-tial for emerging markets all across the world. Internationally, the non-tariff barriers (NTBs) are one of the major hurdles. NTBs to trade are manipulatively crafted policies that are often designed to discourage competition. Lack of awareness on part of governmentis also resulting in the lack of effective policy resolutions to counter such barriers.
In recent years, there have been substantial investments for technological upgradation in our competitor economies such as in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Our MSMEs have lot of homework to do in terms of technology upgradation, obtaining international certifications and compliances that will make them more competitive and acceptable in the international markets. In a significant development in this regard, EEPC India and DSIR under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce has recently initiated an exercise to identify technology areas that can be upgraded to boost critical engineering exports from MSMEs.
As 60 per cent of the total mem-bership comprises SMEs. Are there any specific campaigns or pro-grams that EEPC India is creating to support these members?Sarkar: The overall scenario in the global manufacturing is witnessing a dynamic shift in favor of decen-tralization that favors manufacturer supplier relationship to original equipment manufacturers. Because India also offers a promising domestic market, Indian MSMEs are emerging favored choice of suppliers of components and parts to the global OEMs because of their competitiveness and talent.
EEPC India has 42 dedicated panels for different engineering segments. It regularly organizes meetings to discuss various issues and opportunities to disseminate them among its members. With its vast membership base, EEPC has been able to distribute various export promotion schemes and incentives of Government to the benefit of member exporters.
Each year EEPC India participates in over 40 global events including overseas B2B delegations, RBSMs and trade shows keeping in mind the interests and emerging opportunities in different markets around the world. Our flagship event IESS is promoted pan India through various road shows and seminars where we sensitize members of our focus products and apprise them of our Vendor deve-lopment opportunities to be organi-zed in the show. EEPC India is also going to launch a radically revamped website very soon that will feature high utility for engineering industry in trade promotion.

Global Sourcing Meetstwo simultaneous tracks of global sourcing meets gave immense information to all who participated on various resources to bid for foreign projects and becoming suppliers.
Maintaining the right exchange rate is Important
When one talks about foreign trade, the exchange rate matters to all business communities,
importers and exporters. Elaborating on the same at the press conference held at IESS IV, Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Rajeev Kher said, “I was told by industry friends that the exchange rate of `60-62 per US$ is a good level. As per my understanding, when the
rupee is fluctuating between this rate it is a win-win situation for everyone.”
Kher further added that, “We have to keep in mind that we have a strong import base. Therefore, the exchange value has to be a balanced so that we can maintain a right equilibrium between our exporters and importers. We will become uncomfortable if it crosses that band.”
Highlighting the changing image of
the Indian engineering exporters, Chairman, EEPC India, Anupam Shah mentioned that Indian engineering exports have been changing fast from being pure exporters of items like steel and iron to suppliers of high technology products in the sector of aerospace, shipbuilding, etc.
Furthermore, Shah expects that business worth $500 million is expected to be generated at the IESS IV.

3D Printer
DesignTech Systems is exhibiting a new age technology with Stratasys Production series Machines. These machines function based on a 3D printing technology and help companies produce models/parts for end-use application. This technology is known as Direct Digital Manufacturing. These parts/models need not only be used for visualization and functional testing, but in fact can be used as final products, for e.g., jigs, fixtures, mold inserts, etc. This is ideal for small batch productions as it helps develop models that are
extremely strong and robust in much lesser time than the conventional methods. For example, an aluminum soft mold, which typically takes anywhere between few days to weeks to be developed using the conventional methods, 3D printing helps companies develop the soft mold insert in a few hours.▶ DesignTech Systems Hall 1 / Stall e43
