This weekend artists across LoudounCounty open their doors for you! On thisfree, self-guided driving tour, visit the68 participating artists in their studiosand guest spaces. We celebrate our 14thyear of introducing visitors to the amazing wealth of artistic talent locatedright here in Loudoun County.

WLAST is one of the only events where the public can seelocal artists where they work, experience one-on-one interaction, and view live art demonstrations with professional and emerging artists.

Maureen creates wheel thrown and hand-built stoneware pottery that is functional and decorative. She prides herself inproducing pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind. Her work is reflective of non-traditional designs created by using handmadestamps, carvings, and altered forms.

For Dale, woodturning releases the natural beauty of wood.

Using a lathe and tools, he transforms a piece of tree into a

functional item or artistic creation that can be used and enjoyed

for many years. "Mother Nature has done all of the real work

and my job is to simply reveal it."

Offering on tour: Hand crafted artistic and utilitarian pieces.

Over 90% of these items are made from fallen trees in Loudoun County.

Directions: From Route 50, turn on to St. Louis Rd. (Rt. 611) northbound. Turn left on Foxcroft

Road (Rt. 626). After about 1 mile, turn left on Unison Road, then right on Bloomfield Road. In

about 150 yards, the studio will be on the left. GPS directions to my studio are accurate.

Richard creates a wide variety of high-fired pottery — bowls,

plates, mugs, vases, wine coolers, sake sets, bird houses,

pitchers, oil jars, honey jars, garlic keepers, espresso cups, and

more — that are both beautiful and functional. All kitchenware is

safe for dishwasher and microwave ovens.

Directions: From East Colonial Highway (old Route 7), go south on Canby Road (Route 662)

for about 3/4 of a mile. Sign for #17642 is on the left. Go down a long (almost half a mile) drive-

way, over a cattle grate, to our restored barn that dates back to the 1840s.

Ed and Claire Cutshall are a family team that focuses on

original designs in gold, platinum, and gemstone jewelry. They

specialize in hand carved lost wax casting to create artistic

Geoff works with functional forms, primarily on the wheel. Helikes to alter some of the forms by pushing, pressing, and cutting. A simple manipulation can transform surface andshape. His intent is to have the interactions with his work bevisual, physical, and functional.

Lori's work is inspired from designs and textures found in

nature that are a part of our everyday life. She uses

hammering and embossing to create pieces in silver, brass,

Printmaking, papermaking, and pyrography are core processes

of Suzanne’s practice. Her work is inspired by nature and

frequently references the unintended consequences of human

actions. Her prints and drawings focus on line and composition

fibers and organic fragments.

Marilyn Harrington is a weaver and dyer who specializes in

colorful and distinctive scarves and shawls of silk, tencel, and

wool. Many of her products are hand dyed. Her scarves strike

a contemporary note with designs that are intriguing from both

near and far.

scarves, and other accessories for the adventurous woman. Weaving demonstration.

Hope's pastel drawings and paintings celebrate the vibrant

natural beauty of Loudoun's wild places and farms as well as

her travels. Working in a dynamic style that emphasizes her

love of color and light, her work aims to achieve balance

between realistic and expressive depictions of her subjects.

The Waterford/Leesburg cluster combines the Village of Waterford andTown of Leesburg Studios. It features 10 tour stops hosting 16 artists.

Okcha creates both functional and non-functional, forms using

various types of firing; oxidation, reduction, soda, pit, and Raku.

Having learned the fundamentals of pottery from a Korean

master, her designs are a marriage of east and west.

Mark P. Thomas is a photography artist whose work is created

through an entirely "analog" process. He uses traditional 8X10

inch film with a 1958 wooden camera. Film is processed in a

"wet" darkroom and hand printed using a 1954 enlarger. If

properly displayed or stored, these photographs are guaranteed

to maintain their original appearance for life.

Susan Trask raises alpacas at Earth Wind and Fleece, a small

farm in Lovettsville, VA. She hand-dyes her alpaca fiber and

texture, reflecting something about those who wear them:

free-spirited, dramatic, confident, flirty, colorful, fashion-forward

She also creates felted wall art, fiber art jewelry, and hand dyes silk scarves.

I create one of a kind, sterling silver bracelets, necklaces and ear-

rings using the art form of chain mail (think Medieval armor). I have

collected gemstones and sterling silver beads for 30 years, and I

strive to find new ways of incorporating them in my unique designs.

Offering on tour: I will demonstrate making rings from sterling sil-

ver wire, and the steps necessary to make the cut rings ready for the weaving process.
