INTRODUCTIONWelcome to the Civil Penalty Accreditation Scheme.

As part of your membership you are now eligible to use the scheme’s Accreditation Mark. You will also be issued with a certificate with your own unique reference number and your company will be added to the list of accredited companies published on gov.uk. Use of the Accreditation Mark is voluntary and does not have an impact on how we select vehicles to stop at port.

The following guidance demonstrates how the Accreditation Mark can be used for the duration of your membership.

ACCREDITATION MARKThe Accreditation Mark has been created as a recognisable symbol for members of the Civil Penalty Accreditation scheme.

There are two ways of using the Accreditation Mark. In any instance where the Accreditation Mark is visible to the public it can be used on its own as an icon or with Secured Checked Accredited (SCA) to highlight the security processes that have been adhered to. Examples of use would be on a vehicle.

Use of the Accreditation Mark with Civil Penalty Accreditation can be used on internal documents and on documents to clients to highlight your membership. Examples of use would be on a letterhead.

EXCLUSION ZONE AND MINIMUM SIZETo ensure the integrity of the Accreditation Mark at all times, please allow for the exclusion zone and never use it smaller than the recommended minimum size.

The exclusion zone allows for a clear area around the logo at all times ensuring its clarity. This area is defined consistently by leaving an area the height (x) of half the logo symbol. This is the minimum clear area needed around the mark.

To protect the legibility of the Accreditation Mark its minimum size is 15mm high.

ICONIn certain instances the icon can be used on its own.

Social media platforms allow for branding content, though often the defined area is very small making the legibility of logo text difficult. In these instances the icon can be used on its own.

The icon should always be used with ‘Secured Checked Accredited’ or ‘Civil Penalty Accreditation’ written next to it. It should not be used with any other title.

CO-BRANDINGThe Accreditation Mark can also be used in conjunction with other logos.

When used with the Border Force logo, the black version of the mark should be used, but only as shown below.

Obtain written instructions on vehicle security, and a checklist, from your employer.

For hard-sided vehicles: Lock the integral doors and secure with a padlock.

• For soft-sided vehicles: Lock the integral doors and secure with padlock. Apply a good quality tilt cord, secured with a robust padlock or a unique seal. Note the seal number on the checklist.

Check the fabric, roof and security of the vehicle:• Physically pull the security devices to check they are intact.• Check the panniers, wind deflector and axles.• Check – is there any damage?• Check – have the security devices been tampered with?

Repeat steps 6-7.

Watch the vehicle being loaded to ensure no unauthorised individuals enter the vehicle.

Check the panniers and secure with locks where possible. Also check the wind deflector and axles.

If there is evidence of damage, tampering or unauthorised access, check the load and load-space, and re-apply security devices.

If it was not possible to secure your vehicle, conduct a thorough manual check of the load and load space.

Check the fabric of the vehicle (bodywork, canvas) and note any damage on the checklist.

Record the checks made on your checklist – at loading, after every stop and before entering the United Kingdom Control Zone.
