Dear members,

Welcome to our Autumn edition of the Club Bull!

Autumn brings so many activities on the Calendar. Easter, Anzac Day, Mother’s Day, the commencement of Football Season and the closing date for applications to our Community Grants Program are all coming up!

Easter is an exciting time due to our major Easter promotion. On Sunday the 29th of March from 4.30pm we will give away over $4000 worth of Easter Eggs. So don’t forget to swipe your card every time you enter the club and insert your membership card whilst playing a gaming machine to make sure your entry is in the barrel.

Then the excitement continues with our $16,000 Awesome Autumn cash giveaway commencing on April 12th with weekly cash draws. Then remember to be here for the grand final draw on Sunday the 31st of May for the chance to share in $12,000 in Cash, Appliance Vouchers and Travel Vouchers. See one of our friendly staff for the full details.

Date Alert! Our next round of Community grants funding will close on the 31st of March 2015 and this year we have more to giveaway to the community with $60,000 in Grants funding available. Some of the organisations we supported last year included SPIRAL Inc, Petrie Creek Catchment Care Group, St Margaret’s Anglican

Church’s Woombye Op Shop, Sonshine Sanctuary Association, Mapleton Community Library, Nambour Uniting Church, Nambour & Districts Netball Association, just to name a few. If you know of an organisation within our Community that meets the necessary criteria please encourage them to make an application. Over the last few years the club has invested heavily in its Community Grants program and now proudly fosters the Nambour Connects initiative. The club is proud to be a major leader in the community and as the club is growing we want the community to know we are leading the charge in positive community development and support, through which we hope to grow the entire Nambour community.

A half yearly review of our tiered loyalty program occurred in February. Members, you may have noticed a change in your Tiering level, either upward or downward. Just a reminder Tiers are based on member activity within the club and this can only be determined by the use of your membership card. To get the most benefit from this program you need to ensure you present or insert your card at every transaction.

Just a reminder that our most important and respected date on the calendar is almost here once again – Anzac Day, Saturday the 25th April and what a year it is the 100th Year Centenary! Please see page 3 for full service details and a reminder that neat and tidy dress is respectful on this important date.

Another important event on our calendar is Mother’s Day, Sunday 10th May. On this day we honour every Mum. As this is one of our busiest dining days and nights please ensure that you make a reservation early to avoid disappointment. Our team would be delighted to help make your Mother’s Day outing a special one. We will be

offering a hot breakfast special and a 2 course menu in Metro. So come in and treat your Mum. Our normal full menu range will still be available.

Jo, our entertainment manager has been busy securing entertainment for the first 6 months of the year with some fabulous new entertainers joining our calendar. These are all complimentary for you our members and your guests to enjoy.

The Board of Directors have recently approved for Stage 5 Redevelopment works to commence on the club. We have been extremely busy with the Design and Construct team and several consultants heavily involved in the design concepts. I can reveal that the Metro Restaurant, Lounge Bar, Delish Dessert Bar, and Function Room will all be redeveloped. At this very early stage it appears works will commence from the Monday after Anzac Day. We will endeavour to complete these works with as minimal disruption to our members and guests as possible.

This part of the year sees the commencement of fundraising activities by many sporting clubs, schools and community organizations (our club proudly supports many of you). On behalf of everyone at the club we wish you all the best in your sporting and fundraising endeavours and good luck for the 2015 year.

From the entire team at the club we wish all members and their families a safe and happy Easter. We look forward to seeing many of you over the holidays.

If I can ever be of assistance to you, please, do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you in the Club.

Community Grants increased to $60,000 For the past seven years the club has provided not-for-profit groups and community organisations the chance to secure grants of up to $5000 each.

Submissions are now open for the Seventh Annual Community Benefits Grants Fund and General Manager Suzanne Long said that the club was excited to be offering an additional $10,000 in grants this year.

“We are really thrilled to be able to increase this year’s Grants fund to $60,000, the club is focused on boosting our donations to the community each and every year,” she said.

Ms Long went on to say that eligible groups can apply for a grant ranging from $1000–$5000 which can make a big difference to some organisations.

“Over the past seven years we have seen such great things achieved as a result of the community grants, organisations that could not otherwise afford to either invest in new equipment or complete a much needed project are given the opportunity to do so by applying for a grant of up to $5000,” Ms Long said.

“This component of the club’s community-support program is a major highlight of the year for the club. It’s a

very rewarding way the club can give back to the region”. Successful applicants must meet the grants criteria and be a community based not-for-profit organisation, small community based organisation, community support group, community based sporting organisation or charitable organisation. Submissions close on March 31.

To download funding guidelines and a submission form visit nambourrsl.com.au and head to the community section.

Community gives generously to appealThe entire team at the Nambour RSL Club would like to thank everyone who donated gifts to the Christmas Tree Care appeal for Suncoast Cares ‘Christmas in the Grounds’.

The response to the second Annual Christmas Tree Appeal was a tribute to our great local community who generously contributed hundreds of Christmas presents to those less fortunate.

Thank you for the support you have given to our club and to our community. The Nambour RSL Club is a not-for-profit community-based club, which has contributed more than $382,000.00 to charities, community and sporting groups in the 2013/14 financial year. With your support we look forward to continuing to grow this contribution to the community.

Jesse Gilby certainly has something to smile about. After dedicating the last 4 years to his love of cooking, Jesse recently received his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.

The 20 year old from Woombye has not looked back since he commenced his work experience at the Club in June 2010, followed by completing a school based traineeship in March 2011.

When Jesse was asked at high school what field he would like to work in, there was no doubt in his mind that cooking was the only thing he wanted to pursue, he then went on to complete his Certificate II in Commercial Cookery in 2012.

Upon finishing school Jesse took up a full-time chef’s apprenticeship here at the Club. “I am really grateful for the career opportunities the Nambour RSL Club has given me over the years”, Jesse said.

Proudly displaying his Certificate, Jesse went on to say that he was thrilled to have achieved his qualifications in the kitchen. “I have always had a passion for cooking so I am really happy to be a chef” he said.

Jesse has made many sacrifices to get to where he is today, when most teenagers are enjoying a social life on the weekends, Jesse spent most of his later teens learning his craft over split shifts, late nights and weekends. Jesse’s favourite things to make include

club news

Club Supports Young Ambitions

pizzas and pastas, he also enjoys mastering hand rolled gnocchi.

General Manager Suzanne Long said she was proud to see Jesse’s dedication pay off. “We are very lucky to have a team of passionate and experienced staff and it’s the dedication from people like Jesse that make our club an award-winning venue” Ms Long said.

Nambour RSL Club is a great supporter of young people aspiring to a career in hospitality, the organisation has given students from the region experience through traineeships, apprenticeships and work experience for many years.

“As a community club we are pleased to be able to offer professional development to the local younger generation and we will continue to assist as many young people as possible with industry opportunities,” Ms Long said.

“This is just another way the club gives back to the community in addition to the $382,000 in sponsorship and donations we gave in support last financial year.’’
