Mr Clarke said: "Violent crime is still the biggestchallenge. It will be my number one priority to drivedown violent crime." He insisted that it had fallen whenthe statistics were examined "in the round".

His argument was supported by the BSC, based on

interviews with 40,000 adults, which found 9 per centfewer violent crimes.

    Question 2 Is thisstereotype true?

The stereotype is getting worse, but not everyyoung teenage boy is part of this picture. However this is portrayed a lotacross the media, music and news, although the news is alwaysnegative, you cannot beat it. A lotofcrime is

always happening, it has beenhappening beforeare generationand it willcontinue to happen.Crime has increase though over the time. Peoplewho createcan be more or lessadults thanteenagers, teenagers just carry the blame for it

instead. The sterotype is only true to a few peoplebut not everyone.

Experts:-"According to the report, British adults are also twice as likely than German adults to cross

the road when they encounter teenagers committing anti-social behaviour. Some of thereasons Britons were too frightened to get involved included being physically attacked, fearof reprisals and being verbally abused. But not one of these fears appears to be borne out bythe facts."-Pam Hibbert, principal policy officer for Barnados, says that wearing hoodies and meetingfriends on street corners is all part of the growing up process. She said: "We have become fearful of all children. We know for example young crime in itselfhas remained fairly static in the past 10 years - it is a minority that cause problems andretaliate. The demonisation of children and young people in some sections of the media andwhen politicians refer to youngsters as yobs - that breeds the actual fear."

Opinions:-Sam, another young person upset by the report, told the BBC : "Respect seems to bedemanded here, why should we as a youth just give respect, it should be earned. The vastmajority of youth do these things as there is nothing else to do. It is simply a periodeveryone goes through before they can get into the pubs. I have done a lot of the thingsmentioned but I am at university studying politics now. It is a age-old argument but peopleseem to have very short term memories, look back at cartoons from the 50 and 60's and itwas the same argument."

-Gemma, who also felt compelled to speak out, adds: "It is elderly people who think this and

stereotype all young people in the same category. Again it is the few who ruin life for therest of us. Not all young people are 'yobs' or 'tyrants'. If we were to stereotype older peoplein this kind or biased way we would be told off!!!"

Question 3 How are some boystaking away this stereotype?

Boys actually spend more of time, playingsports and going to the gym, rather thanstaying on the streets. Many boys enjoy sportssuch as football and basketball and they would

spend most of their time going to extra schoolactivities, playing for their call teams inmatches . Some boys also attend manydifferent outside school activities and evenmany attend youth clubs. Boys obviously goout to socialise but thiscan be done in manywaysfor example, cinemas, concerts, bowling, etcjust like any otherteenagers would do.

To solve teenage crime I think we need more organisationshelping young people to get involved with activities.

A lot of crime happens just because of boredom. I got involved in the Positive Futures programme back in

    November last year.

They came around to our estate, got to know us and askedus what we wanted, what we needed. They arranged activities and trips for us that would keep us

off the streets, and also help us develop life skills. Now things are better for me. I've stopped hanging around

    with certain people.

I have a job and I'm sorting my life out. 17 year old James

Question 4 How does themedia portray young boys?

Teenagers are portray negative in theoverall media. When you look at the newsanother teenager has been stabbed or shot.

The media rarely mention teenage boys

doing well or pasting their GCSEs. There isalways a twist to it something bad alwaysneeds to happen in order for the media tosell. Teenage boys are a threat to today'ssociety and you must cross the road when

yousee adrop of boys on the other side.

    Experts:

-Elaine Peace, UK director of children's services at NCH, thechildren's charity, said that teenagers were more likely to be thevictim of a crime than the perpetrator: "Young people are 10 times

more likely to be actively volunteering in the community thancommitting offences and young people are more likely to bevictims of crime than adults. The media is fuelling stereotypes ofchildren and the fear of young people. We should be highlightingthe fantastic work young people do in the community.

Opinions:The main stereotype is that we all walk around hooded up, goingaround battering old ladies. In the papers and the media they are making it out to be worse

than it is. It makes the older generation scared of teenagers. We're not all yobs. We don't all go around mugging old ladies.

    public now look at teenage

boys? Do they stereotype them for doing good orcausing trouble? Have they change theirviews?

This question is a rhetorical question, wherethe audience look back on how they thoughtteenage boys before and see what they

think of them now after hearing the answersto the other questions.

Maybe the government needs to still dosomething about it set up more youthactivities, so that teenage boys have morethings to do.

After finding my secondary research usingthe internet, I was able to find a lot ofinformation about the stereotype and a lotof expert opinions. If I was going to go

through with this idea I would be able to useof statistics to prove the message of thisstereotype. In terms of expert and opinions,it shows that I would be able to get sources

in order to film, so the viable of thisaccessible.
