Important problems in teaching experimental nuclear physics:

● low funding of student laboratories – no contact with modern scientific apparatus● schematic tasks, repeated for many years, reports easily available on the web● more and more often: MSc theses in experimental nuclear physics are just computer simulations!● individual work rather than team work

How does it work?

● Morning lectures – presentation of methods and achievements of various branches of nuclear physics (1-2h per day)

● Experimental tasks – using scientific apparatus installed at HIL and beams from the U-200P cyclotron (6-8h per day)

● Final presentations (open session) – each group presents their measurements and results (20 minutes + questions)

● Students work in small (international teams) (2-4 people)● Tasks: planning, preparation, performing a measurement; mounting, calibration of the set-up, preparation of the target, data analysis, presentation and discussion of the results

Erasmus Intensive Programmes

● organised jointly by at least three universities from at last three european countries (EU + Norway, Croatia, Turkey,...)

● at least 10 foreign students; students and lecturers from all partner institutions

● 2 – 6 weeks of teaching (days of work separated only by weekends)

● maximum three consecutive editions can be supported

● awful paperwork but good level of funding
