Rojas Madrid is ranked first in her class at Hen-nessey and is bilingual, speaking and writing flu-ently in both English and Spanish.

She is the daughter of Rita Rojas and is a Sunday school teacher and occa-sional worship leader at Cristo Rey Baptist Church in Hennessey.

She is a member of Na-tional Honor Society, and has earned awards in Pre-AP English, Biology and U.S. History. She also served as Junior Class sec-retary and is a member of student council.

She plans to attend the

University of Chicago and major in psychology.

Rojas Madrid chose to write on the Eighth Amend-ment and its prohibition on cruel and unusual punish-ment.

She was on a college visit to the University of Chicago and was represented at the scholarship presentation by her mother.

Murray is the daughter of Sandy and Billy Murray and is one of Kingfisher’s 2017 honor graduates.

She was named King-fisher County’s Distin-guished Young Woman for 2017, winning both the interview and self expression award in that scholarship pageant.

Murray also is vice presi-dent of Kingfisher’s national award winning FFA chapter and was herself a member of

the state champion market-ing plan team, state champi-on parliamentary procedure team, national runner up parliamentary procedure team and national western livestock judging third place team.

She currently is report-er of her senior class and a member of NHS and student council. She is an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she’s participated in mission trips as well as volunteered for a number of local projects and events. Murray’s essay was on the First Amendment.

The scholarship was pre-sented by Christine Reid, KCRW first vice president, with the assistance of schol-arship committee members Sara Boeckman and Lacey Odell.

Helping the elderly re-main in their own homes is a focus of the Long Term Care Authority in Enid.

Judy Rupp, a representa-tive of LTCA, explained the authority’s services at the May meeting of Kingfisher County Retired Educators at Kingfisher Memorial Library.

Rupp said the authority offers services geared to

individuals age 60 and over who are interested in main-taining their independence by remaining in their own homes as long as possible.

Chase Farrar and Teresa Grellner from NBC also addressed the group about common frauds and scams and what individuals can do to avoid becoming vic-tims.

During the business

portion of the meeting new officers were elected, including: Dana Golbek, president; Cathy Howard, vice president, and Debbi Jorgenson, secretary-trea-surer.

The club also decided to continue meeting at the li-brary, but changed the time for the monthly meetings to 10 a.m., with coffee and donuts being served.
