IntroductionIts been twelve years since we launched the Contrast Upholsterycollection. What began with a small selection of firesidecompanion chairs has grown into a comprehensive offering ofchairs, sofas chaise & stools.

Interestingly, during the past couple of years it has becomeapparent that our most popular models are from our original halfdozen designs. I guess this demonstrates yet again that you cannotbeat the tried and tested classics. These designs have nowbecome the bedrock of our collection.

Style & quality will never go out of fashion and the adage you getwhat you pay for has never been more relevant.To that end wecontinue to produce our furniture in our factory in Lancashireusing the best raw materials and our skilled upholsterers’ talents.

Cover choiceHere at Contrast we understand that our customers liketo exercise their taste and personality by selecting theirown covers for our characteristic shapes.

To facilitate this we offer a wide range of hides andfabrics to choose from.

Our hides are sourced from reputable Europeantanneries primarily using full grain hides for quality, feel &longevity. Our hides improve over time and develop apatina and characteristic of their very own.

Our fabrics are also produced by European Mills usingthe best quality yarns. We use natural fabrics like cottonand viscose to ensure soft sumptuous feel and strength.

If however you cannot find a cover to suit your needs ourfurniture can be produced in fabric of your choice (this isof course subject to fabric suitability and appropriate firetest certification).

The Contrast Collection is a respected assemblageof handcrafted upholstery. Inspired by historicaldesigns and characterised by traditionallyconstructed hardwood frames glued, screwed anddowelled for superior strength. Our seat interiorsuse the finest feather & down for extra comfort –yes you may have to plump them - but its worththe effort.

We use a number of suspension systems including‘no sag’ springs, fully coil sprung seat units andindividually pocket sprung seats. We offer each of

our pieces in various combinations such asoccasional chairs, large & midi sofas, ottomans andstools. The ‘Aged to Perfection’ leather collection,antiqued legs and studding are all individually handfinished that help create heirlooms of the future.

*(Plates of meatMeaning – Feet.Origin – This is a well-established example of Cockney rhyming slang. The first use of it that there is a record for is a piece in a1887 edition of Referee: "As she walked along the street with her little ‘plates of meat’, And the summer sunshine falling on hergolden 'Barnet Fair'." The 'feet' rhyming slang meaning was preceded by another rhyming word - 'street'. This is cited in Ducangeanglicus, 1857 a reference work with this very specific sub-title - The vulgar tongue: comprising two glossaries of slang, cant, and flashwords and phrases, principally used in London at the present day.
