Controversial music video

"Smack My Bitch Up" was voted the most controversial song of all time in a by Britain's Performing Rights Society.

The tune, which came out on 1997's The Fat Of The Land, was condemned by women's rights groups when it came out because they said its chorus — "Change my pitch up/Smack my bitch up" — along with its accompanying music video, promoted domestic violence and hatred of women.

Motif 1

The first motif which I spotted out from the start of the video where he sniffed was when the man was drinking in the club and as the video goes on he then goes to do more drugs in the toilets, I think what the artist is trying to convey here is that men tend to consume more drugs then women in general and that they mainly look down on women and tend to abuse the when they are under the influence.

Motif 2

Here we see domestic violence towards a woman by a man and this can offend certain women as they would feel offended and strongly disagree with this view. This can cause problems between men and women, here the artist is trying to show that women are powerless when facing men regardless of the situation.

Motif 3

• Here we see an image of a smashed car which was then stolen by a man who had a woman with him in the passenger seat. In my opinion here the artist is trying to show that such violence is caused by men although women cause violence too it cannot be compared as their violence seems weaker than men's.

Motif 4

• Finally here we see the man entering a “erotic girls” club, this will make viewers really look down on women on the other hand feminists would find this insulting as its not providing a good message for women.

• In addition we see the man having sex with the woman and I feel like the message he’s trying to put across here is that it’s very easy to get sex/ sexual gifts from women.
