Conventions Found In The Horror GenreBY MARVIN ADDAE
Secluded Location
Generally, horror movies enjoy placing their characters in a location where there is no one around for help and no way to contact someone easily, for example the woods, a summer camp or a house with no other houses near them.
Someone Runs Around House Instead Of Escaping
You will frequently see the victim see being chased and when they have a good chance to exit the location they are being chased in they will usually run upstairs or somewhere that is not the way to leave
Victim Inexplicably Falls Over
The victim will likely fall over whilst trying to escape the danger, this usually happens when they are extremely close to getting to safety and they will also commonly trip on something very small or even themselves
Someone Dies In The First Five Minutes
In the first five minutes of the movie someone, usually a character that wouldn't have played a major role in the movie anyway will be killed by the main creature, this is to set the mood and create a sense for the movie and show a small preview of the creature/monster
Small Group Of People
In horror movies you will never see at least more than 3 people together, and where there are more than 3 they will never stick together even thought it is the best method of safety, this makes it easy for the creature to kill them separately one by one
No Power In The Building
In horror movies the power will be cut allowing no light or connection to be available to the victims, this ensures the victims have no way of knowing where the creature will be and/or contacting anyone
