Conventions of a film opening
Nathan Rawlings
Main Character
• In a film opening we would typically see a main character in their everyday life. Film openings can also give us a brief introduction to the characters life, examples of this include films like Hot fuzz.
Location
• Within openings of a film we are usually introduced to the location in which the film is set. This is sometimes shown within the first shot of a film, for example Scott Pilgrim vs. The World opens with a shot of snowy Toronto Canada.
Genre
• Usually within the opening of a film we can often clearly see the genre in which the film is placed in. A sci-fi film would typically open with a shot of a spaceship or a futuristic looking characters or environment in order to clearly show the genre.
