Features

Trailers normally use different shots from production to make the viewer interested.

These clips often show different sections from the film that do not give away any of the key plot.

The main aim of a trailer is to show the audience a quick snippet of information.

Many people have been ridiculed for revealing to much of the story in their trailers.

Trailers often show the names of the most famous actors within the film to widen the amount of interest the film will have.

Along with this sometimes the director will be shown, to give away the type of film it will be.

Many films will use a voice over to give more information away and also to add an ambiance to film.

Music

The music behind trailers vary with the genre. Such as if the film is a comedy it will have quite up beat

music behind it, or a horror having quite gothic orchestral pieces behind the trailers.

These pieces of music tell the audience what type of film the trailer is going to be.

Along with this most of the music is supposed to add to the suspense especially with the horror genre.

However the music in trailers can sometimes be put in to the trailer to throw off the audience.

Such as if you have a comedic action film suspense holding music could be used but then fade in to a quite up beat song.

Hot fuzz is a brilliant example of this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayTnvVpj9t4

Text Text can be used in a variety of ways. Such as to show release dates, tag lines/words To show actors and directors. And also the producer that it comes from such as

disney. But the biggest thing about the text on screen is the

style of text as this can change the way that we think about a film.

This is because gothic fonts of texts can be used to extend the horror genre or fonts can be used to fit in with the films such as shrek.

Camera Lots of different camera angles can be used such as low shot in

horror trailers often used to show the victim within the film. They do this to show how powerless the victim is but also to help you understand what type of film it is.

Along with this comedy films often use a lot of close ups to show the actors face and expression. They do this so that you feel a lot more like you know the person and make the film seem much more inviting.

In comparison action films use a lot of long shots and pans so that you can see the whole scene of what is happening they use this to catch your attention and make you feel like a lot more is happening.

Cameras within film trailers are used widely to show the genre of films and that is why within cross genre films they use a mixture of camera shots to give the film a unique feel.

Editing Editing within film trailers often shows hints to the type of film that it

will be. Mise en scene Mise en scene can be used during films trailers to point out the

period that the film is set in so that the audience gets a clear indication of the type of film.
