Kristian is the newest

member of our golf

professional staff, joining us

as the Golf Shop Manager in

late August. Kristian has

been a Golf Professional at

three different facilities since

2001, including experience as

Head Professional in

Maryland and an Instructor

with the First Tee of Washington DC, prior to moving overseas to Italy. He

has relocated to Charleston with Lisa, his wife of 17 years, who is a Foreign

Service Officer with the State Department. Together they have lived in 5

countries on 3 different continents. We are excited to have Kristian on board

with Madison Jeter (Asst. Golf Professional) to ensure a positive golf

experience at Coosaw Creek. Please stop by the golf shop to welcome him

to Coosaw. Kristian is following behind long time employee Bob Clark in the

Golf Shop Manager position. Bob has been with Coosaw over 17 years and

has decided to take on a part time position at the Club as Head Course

Marshal. Bob will be responsible for the hiring, training and scheduling of

our course starters and marshals and ensuring an enjoyable experience while

on the golf course. We are very pleased to keep Bob on staff and you will

continue to see him on the golf course a few days a week.

Family Tees (Tee it Forward Initiative)

Little Links Finale

COOSAW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB Course News

The PGA has implemented the “Tee it Forward” initiative to

help golfers enjoy the game as well as to grow the game by in an

attempt attract new junior golfers, families and beginning

golfers to the game of golf. There is a flyer located at the

handicap computer to help golfers identify which tees they

should play. Most people already know that we have 3 sets of

tees (blue, white and green), but many are unaware that we also

offer 3 blended tee options (blue/white, green/white and

green/gold) for golfers to play, as well. Scorecards are available

in the pro-shop to provide tee and handicap information.

We have also re-implemented family tees throughout the

course. You will see these markers (Gold and Red) located in

the fairway to provide adequate starting points for juniors and

beginners, as well as for families to come out and play together.

During Twilight Play (after 3pm), we will also allow juniors

under the age of 15 to play for FREE when accompanied by a

paying adult. Family tee scorecards are also available in the

pro-shop.

Coosaw Creek is also offering Welcome to Golf Clinics to help

new golfers get started in the game. These are taking part on

Tuesday evenings at 6pm and cost $10 per clinic. Contact the

golf shop at 843-767-8988 to sign up or for more information.

On Monday, August 27th the Coosaw Creek Little Links season finale was held. The rain held off and each team played their final 3-hole match. The awards party featuring pizza and ice cream was hosted after play. The Dragons ended up edging the 3 other teams (the Cardinals, the Eagles and the Little Golf Pros) to win the season championship. With 21 kids participating and volunteer help from many of the parents, the first season of Little Links was a great success. We look to increase participation for next year's Little Links season, which will be played in July and August of 2013. If you are interested in having your junior golfer participate, please contact Madison Jeter in the golf shop for more information.

Physical fitness is a key part to the golf game that many people take for granted. Flexibility and core strength is an integral part to the golf swing. The stronger and more flexible you are in your torso with your oblique muscles the better your turn will be. The bigger the turn the more power and speed you will have. So here is a quick and easy exercise you can do to work on those oblique muscles. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart with your hands on your hip. Looking straight ahead and keeping your head still, twist to the left until your right elbow is pointing straight ahead and then twist back to the other side. Start slowly and then work your way up in speed until you are doing one full rotation per second. Do 3 sets of 40, resting 30 seconds between sets. So try doing this a few times a week to strengthen your core and to help improve your golf swing.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s One Day Member-Member golf tournament on Aug. 25th. We had a great turn out and great weather for play. Welcome to Golf Program is under way. This program is geared to invite the novice golfer who may be intimidated to learn the game, pushed away by high prices or just not sure what golf is all about. We have developed a 5 class program, designed to take you through the A to Z of golf. Classes will be conducted every Thursday at 6pm and will last about 1 and 30 minutes per session. In level 2, we will go on course each day to play a few holes and to offer some on course instruction, etiquette and rules information. Cost will be $10 per class. Please sign up in the golf shop. Classes are limited to the first 10 to sign up, so sign up today.

Hi Ladies,It has been an extremely hot summer (with a lot of very hot Wednesdays) but we have had wonderful participation by the LGA. President Peggy Brinson has done a great job providing us with fun games to play and we have had a lot of different winners. The games are fair to all and give everyone an opportunity to be the “big winner”. We look forward to cooler weather in the months ahead and hope some of you who can’t play in the heat will be able to rejoin us on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8:30. Please remember to sign up by Tuesday and Friday to get put into teams. For new ladies to the community, come out and join us for great camaraderie and fun and to meet new friends. We look forward to meeting you!! See you on the links, Kitz

September and October are busy months for the club with outside events. We will be hosting a number of outside tournaments when member play will be unavailable or limited due to events. Please see the calendar provided in the newsletter to make note of the dates we will be hosting outside events. If you would like to try to play or practice on these dates, please contact the golf shop to get details and times when the course will be available for play. We will also be hosting a large outing on Saturday, October 27th at 1pm. We have member only tee-times available off both the 1st and 10th tees from 7am -9am only to accommodate play prior to the tournament. Please make your tee-time as early as possible if you plan on playing that morning.

Competition from Different TeesAs a follow-up to last month’s article, there is another instance when further handicap adjustments from your course handicap are necessary. The USGA recommends handicap adjustments when competing for net prizes from different sets of tees in order to make the competition equitable. These adjustments occur most frequently in the Blitzes played at Coosaw because play is allowed from a variety of tees. It also occurs when competing for an overall net prize in tournaments which has flights from different sets of tees. The adjustment in handicap is based upon the difference between the Course Ratings from the different sets of tees. An example of this handicap adjustment occurs in The Tuesday/Thursday Blitz which is usually played from three sets of tees; White (rating 69.8), White/Green (rating 67.4) and Green (rating 65.0). Players competing from the green tees in the weekday blitzes will play at 5 stokes less than there course handicap (69.8-65.0=4.8 rounded to 5) and players from the white/green tees will play at 2 strokes less (68.8-67.4=2.4 rounded to 2). The adjustment in handicap strokes may be subtracted from the course handicap of the player playing from the lower course rating (as above) or it may be added to the course handicap of the player playing from the higher course rating.Similar adjustments should be made when the women are playing both the Green and Green/Gold tees and when men are competing with women in net competitions. Please keep in mind that these handicap adjustments are only for the specific competition of the day and do not affect equitable strokes for posting purposes. Club Policy Update

New Club Policies Effective July 1, 2012

Coosaw Creek Country Club Walking/Riding Policy effective July 1, 2012

In preparation for the arrival of our new golf cart fleet this summer and in an effort to help improve the maintenance of our golf carts, a new policy will go into effect on July 1, 2012 addressing our walking/riding policy.

1. All walkers are expected to walk the entire golf course. Walkers who are found standing on the back of a cart or riding in the cart at anytime during their round will be charged a cart fee for their round.

2. Members will be required to use a golf cart for all tournament rounds (except Club Championship & Senior Club Championship).

3. Maximum number of carts allowed in a group is 2. For 2 carts to be allowed in any group, a minimum of 3 players is required. Any group found to have multiple carts for single riders will be asked by Club staff to consolidate carts. Failure to consolidate will result in an additional cart fee charged to each single rider.

Coosaw Creek Country Club Pace of Play Policy effective July 1, 2012

In an effort to improve the enjoyment of the round for all of our members and guests, a new policy will go into effect on July 1, 2012 addressing our pace of play policy.

1. Any groups playing with 2 players or singles on weekends and holidays until 10am, will be paired up with other groups when possible. This may require a delay to the start of play from the reserved tee-time. At the discretion of the golf shop staff and based on availability, groups with 2 players or less may be allowed to play but are expected to hold their position on the golf course, directly behind the group in front of them.

2. The expected pace of play at Coosaw Creek is 4 hours and 15 minutes. All play starting before 10am on weekends and holidays is expected to maintain this pace of play. A group out of position will be notified that they are out of position. If that group fails to regain their position on the course, the group will be directed to skip forward to regain their position. Any groups who fail to finish their round of golf within the expected pace of play will not be permitted to play in the members only tee-time block on weekends and holidays.

We hope that these policies will help increase the life and reduce the maintenance needs of our golf cars, as well as improve the pace of play and enjoyment of the round during our peak play times.

12COOSAW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB Club Use Guidelines

[email protected] 843-767-9000

As summer approaches Coosaw Creek Country Club’s facility use will increase especially with our ample amenities including the Swimming Pool and Pavilion, Tennis Courts, Golf Course, Basketball Court and Clubhouse. We encourage all of our members to take advantage of the various fun activities and facilities available to them. To assure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, it is important to note the following guidelines:

18 HOLE PAR 71 ARTHUR HILLS CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE – winds through beautiful low country wooded wetlands surrounded by community homes. Golf Pro Shop hours are 7AM-7PM everyday. During golf play hours of 7AM to dusk only Pro Shop authorized golfers and the Club maintenance staff are allowed on the course and cart paths.

• Club golf carts are permitted on the course, but personal golf carts, skate boards or other personal motorized vehicles are not permitted on the course or cart paths.

• Golfers are expected to dress appropriately. Men must wear collared shirts (sorry-no denim allowed on the Golf Course). For women shirts without collars must have sleeves, and shirts without sleeves must have collars. Soft spikes are required.

• Dog walkers, permitted before or after golf hours, must carry and use pooper scoopers.

• The course is open for public play during certain hours.COOSAW CREEK COUNTY CLUBHOUSE is Coosaw Creek’s community center featuring full service dining, Bar, Meeting Rooms and Pro Shop. In addition to supporting the many social functions of the Members, the Clubhouse banquet facilities are available to Members and the public for meetings, parties, weddings and other celebrations. Take-out and call ahead service is also available.

• Quality denim or golf shorts are allowed in the clubhouse unless specified otherwise for special events. Men must wear collared shirts for dining events and caps are not allowed for dining after 5:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and all day on Sundays in the dining room. Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times. 13Club Use GuidelinesCOOSAW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB

SWIMMING POOLS – Open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend, the Swimming Pool is staffed with lifeguards during published hours and is available for open swim (at your own risk) when lifeguards are not present.

• Please observe and follow all rules posted in the pool area.

• All instructions from pool staff and/or lifeguards must be obeyed.

• All Food or Beverages must be purchased from the Club, unless prior approval has been obtained from the General Man-ager.

• Pool closes at 9:00 PM except for special events.PLAYGROUND – Our newly renovated play area is designed with a two-to-five year-old section, a five-to-twelve year-old section and an adult two-station Energi Total Body Fitness System. The children’s areas consist of swings, climbing struc-tures, slides and a zip line. This state-of-the-art equipment is designed to encourage fun and promote physical fitness. It is located next to the Pool Pavilion. For safety any child under 9 years old must by supervised by an adult. Playground is open daily until dusk.PONDS – Coosaw Creek’s beautiful ponds have been stocked with fish - but beware of snakes, alligators and other wildlife.

• The course ponds are part of a larger low country wooded wetland area. Please respect this incredible asset and avoid contaminating it with any foreign materials or liquids.

• Fishing is allowed only from the bank and only in designated areas. These areas have been selected to ensure that people fishing are not in the normal flight of golf balls and that ponds can be approached without crossing the course or using the cart paths. They are located:

• BEHIND THE PLAYGROUND – Approach from McChune Court

• HOLE 15 – Approach from Arthur Hills Circle

• HOLE 16 – Approach from Club Course Drive

• HOLE 17 – Approach from Power Line Break

• Fish in course ponds are for “catch and release” and not for consumption – a major disappointment to our chef! These guidelines are established to ensure a positive experience for all Members and guests who use the facilities. Enforce-ment is the responsibility of all members and staff of the Club. A polite reminder is usually sufficient, but should it become necessary to report any violation please call the Pro-Shop or the Club General Manager.
