Copenhagen was a significant milestone in a longer journey. The global transition to a low carbon economy has begun and is gathering pace. Copenhagen highlighted the commitment by every country to reduce emissions. For the first time in history there was consensus by global leaders of the science and the need for a global agreement to curb global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius and a consensus by business that immediate action was necessary. So what does that all mean and will the Copenhagen Accord be strong enough? What other action is needed to curb global temperature rise to below 2 degrees Celsius? Copenhagen showed what was possible. Around the world progressive businesses and communities are positioning themselves ahead of the curve. Companies such as Coca-Cola, Google, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Siemens, Dow, HP, Pacific Gas & Electricity, Duke Energy, Goldman Sachs, Chevron, Veolia, BP, Phillips, Whirlpool, GE, Vestas all participated at Copenhagen. Business stood beside leading local and state governments. Many showcased leadership and commitment to action. Even leading academic institutes such as Yale participated. Apart from the Government representatives in Copenhagen, there were over 25,000 members of civil society. There were over 1000 side events and exhibitions presenting the latest thought leadership in a raft of topics from curbing population growth to leading technologies and non financial reporting. Until there is a global binding agreement, this is what will lead our world. To share in the thought leadership from Copenhagen and hear the views of those who were there, to learn what this means to you, your business and community, to discover the latest about non-financial reporting and to glean insight into how the global business community are tapping into the opportunities of climate change... Want to know what really happened in Copenhagen? And what it means to you and your organisation? Minter Ellison Rudd Watts, Ideas Shop Ltd, NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development and MOSS (Models of Success & Sustainability) Australia’s Industry Body for CSR and Sustainability Professionals and Advisors, invites you to join delegates to COP 15 for briefings: 4.30pm (for a 4.45pm sharp start) – 7pm Monday 29th March Minter Ellison Rudd Watts Lawyers, Level 20, Lumley Centre, 88 Shortland Street, Auckland 7.00am – 9am Tuesday 30th March Minter Ellison Rudd Watts Lawyers, Level 17, 125 The Terrace, Wellington
