Fruity Hooty Owls Get creative at snack time with these delicious Fruity Hooty Owls! These feathery friends are a fun yet simple snack to make with your little ones. Ingredients- makes one owl 1 plain rice cake 1/2 an apple or peach 1/2 a banana 2 blueberries Topping of choice, e.g. smooth nut butter, cream cheese, plain/ natural/ Greek yoghurt Low sugar multigrain hoops Equipment Child- friendly knives for chopping Child- friendly knives for spreading Chopping boards

Owls! These feathery friends are a fun yet simple snack tomake with your little ones. 

Ingredients- makes one owl1 plain rice cake1/2 an apple or peach1/2 a banana2 blueberriesTopping of choice, e.g. smoothnut butter, cream cheese, plain/natural/ Greek yoghurtLow sugar multigrain hoops

Recipe Method

Child: spread your chosen topping onto the rice cake

Parent and child: carefully cut out the owl's wings from the apple or

peach. If using peach for the wings, consider removing the stone to make

it easier for children cut

Parent and child: cut out little triangles of apple or peach to form the

owl's feet

Child: chop two slices of banana to form the owl's eyes

Child: place two blueberries onto each slice of banana

Child: take six of the multigrain hoops and place on the owl's tummy

Serve and enjoy!

Develop cooking skills: scooping, spreading, chopping

Learning: ask children questions, such as:

Top tip: consider the texture of food that children can manage. If using

firmer fruits, such as apple, you may need to lightly cook them before serving

to children. Alternatively, choose softer fruits that do not require cooking.

which pieces of fruit are the biggest?

how many multigrain hoops can you count?

can you measure out a teaspoon of topping?

what colour are the berries?

what does the peach skin feel like?
