This year has been personally meaningful for me as well. Growing up, I have watched family members struggle to access the healthcare system waiting in demeaningly long lines and filling out confusing documents just to try to access services. This is why I can relate at health fairs when a patient says they don't have a primary care physician because of "bad luck". It makes the outreach work we do as students that much more important when we can provide screenings and make culturally appropriate referrals. I have watched this organization grow the last 2.5 years since its induction, and I couldn't be more proud of the work we've done and excited about the work we will do. This could not have been possible without our fearless advisors, Don Downing and Luis Ramos, who have been so dedicated to student growth and the healthcare of historically underserved communities. It has also been a pleasure and an honor working with my enthusiastic team. Thank you to Nicholas Wax, Kristin Le, Czarina Franco, Simon Kim, Andrew Li, Gary Deng, Aimee Cooke, Jenna Leah Belden, Karianne Kajita, Rosie Chhun, Jessica Trahey, Brooke Hueftle, and Hien Phan.

This year has been an excellent year for UW SNPhA! We've expanded our outreach, screening over 700 people in the Seattle Area. This could not have been possible without the support of my amazing SNPhA team. Through their motivation and support, we've been able to start two new health fairs with the Vietnamese population at the Tet Health Fair and the homeless population at the Nyer Urness House Health Fair. We've also engaged pharmacy students through our culture-specific health fair trainings, educational and awareness events, and mentorship program.

Kristin Le,Vice-President SNPhA officially turned two this year (we even have a cake to prove it!) and the year was a resounding success. We have established new health fairs, worked with different patient populations, continued our mentor-mentee program, provided educational lectures, collaborated with other student organizations not just from the UW School of Pharmacy, but also began interprofessional endeavors with other health science students. Each year, SNPhA has grown and I have been proud to not just witness it, but to play a role in its growth and development as well.

Working alongside the dedicated SNPhA 2014-2015 team, I think we have created meaningful change in our communities and provided fantastic learning opportunities for our members. As I am sure the SNPhAm can attest, we are truly passionate about working with the undeserved population, addressing healthcare disparities, and being patient advocates. This could not have been done without our amazingly supportive advisors, Don Downing and Luis Ramos, who have set an example, committing their careers to the underserved and promoting the profession of pharmacy. I am sure that next years officers will share this great experience. Having recently elected our incoming officers for the 2015-2016 school year, I know that we are in good hands and cannot wait to see what is in store next year for SNPhA!

Nick Wax, President-Elect One of my goals coming into the President-Elect position this year was to establish outreach with the homeless in Seattle. That goal was realized with a National SNPhA Rx for Service grant that Audrey Nguyen, Madison Kyger, and I were awarded in winter quarter. Our grant funds an outreach event this spring, as well as a follow-up event in the fall. This event will offer valuable services, teach our members how to work with a new patient population, and create a long-lasting, positive impression in patients about pharmacists and the clinical services we provide.

This year has been a huge success. Working with Susan, Kristin, the executive board, and our advisors throughout the year has helped me grow so much. I owe so much gratitude to our dedicated group of preceptors, our student members, and all of the other professional organizations we have worked with this year. We have a fantastic team on our board for the 2015-2016 school year, and I am extremely excited to see what we can accomplish together.

    Faculty Advisors

Luis Ramos Don Downing The UW SOP SNPhA team continues to amaze me with its devotion to the communityespecially high risk members of the community. When I was working with the students who wanted to start up a SNPhA chapter at the University of Washington I was frankly a bit concerned about how this organization would manage to collaborate rather than compete with the existing pharmacy student organizations. My fears were unfounded. SNPhA has and continues to share outreach events with many other organizations and in a way that emphasizes the mission and values of SNPhA. It is a pleasure to be associated with such a vital and caring group of young professionals who clearly care for all members of the broader community who could use a helping hand.

Health Fairs South King County Family Health & Safety Fair

    September 27, 2014

A safety and health fair was organized at the Grace Community Church in

Auburn where Latino workers and their families have access to culturally and

linguistically appropriate information about occupational safety and health.

We were able to provide blood glucose, cholesterol, BMI, blood pressure, and

counseling for the Auburn community. We were able to make 4

recommendations to people to check in with a primary care provider.

Brown Bag Review with ASCP March 31, 2015

    Fast facts

Screened: 11 patients Collaborator: UWSOP ASCP

Elderly residents at Providence Vincent House were provided blood pressure screenings and brown bag medication reviews. We provided

one-on-one consultations with each resident along with a licensed

pharmacist to review each medication, vitamin, over-the-

counter product, and supplement that a resident may be taking.

During the review, we educated the resident on their medications,

ensured that they are taking them appropriately, and assessed for any

    drug interactions.

The Latina Health Fair is a collaborative effort amongst many health-care professions at the University of Washington. For the first time in the last few years, medical students were able to do finger stick phlebotomy, so pharmacy and medical students worked side-by-side in testing BG and cholesterol. We also covered blood pressure, BMI and medication safety. We worked with interpreters to communicate some of the common misconceptions surrounding OTC use (Tylenol misuse, disposing of medications, avoiding expired medication use, etc). Vision, dental screenings, spinal exams, HIV testing, and autism screenings were also provided.

Audrey, Madison, and Nick were awarded a $2,500 grant to provide care to an underserved population while promoting the profession of pharmacy. We coordinated a health fair focused on the needs of the homeless population with the Nyer Urness House and Neighborcare Clinic. Blood pressure, blood glucose/cholesterol, medication review, referrals to medical insurance, and referrals to other resources in the Ballard-area were provided. We catered a lunch with a local cafe (Alisons Coastal Cafe) and provided food for everyone who attended. The goal was to break down barriers between homeless and healthcare. It gave attendees a positive interaction with pharmacists and pharmacy students and encouraged us to hold an event next year with the remainder of the grant.

Puget Sound Heart & Stroke Walk October 11, 2014

SNPhA volunteers helped out at three booths. We provided information on

sodium intake, how to do hands-only CPR using CPR-mannequins, and taught people how to recognize a stroke using the FAST acronym with an emphasis on

    stroke victims exercise.

Officers reached out to incoming first years during Orientation Week to promote SNPhA and recruit new

    members.

SNPhA and the UW Pre-Pharmacy Club hosted a bowling social where mentors and mentees could get acquainted and socialize. The event was a time where people bowled, ate pizza, celebrated UW SNPhAs 2 year anniversary, and

    discussed the profession of pharmacy.

    Walk for Polycystic Kidney Disease

    October 24, 2014

Kidney Awareness Week March 9-13, 2015

The goal of this event was to raise awareness about chronic kidney disease in

honor of National Kidney Month. We encouraged students to take part in a

number of events throughout the week including taking a selfie while drinking

water, wearing green, and joining us for a kidney-friendly potluck.

The walk held at Green Lake Park is an annual awareness event held by the PKD foundation. Patients, families, and supporters came together to raise awareness of polycystic kidney disease and help raise funds for research for a treatment or

cure for this life threatening disease.

Dignity for Divas March 1, 2015

Remember the Ribbon December 3rd, 2014

SNPhA promoted HIV awareness by providing information about why,

how, and where to get tested for HIV. Pamphlets were provided regarding common myths surrounding HIV,

how it spread, and where to get tested. Patients were also given short

questions surrounding HIV to test their knowledge.

By providing hygiene bags, homeless folks will have one less worry which

will help them improve their quality of life, and this is what Dignity for Divas stands for. After Nikki, the creator of this program, oriented UW pharmacy students about her organization and how to approach homeless folks, the

Diva Van was used to pass out hygiene bags to homeless folks in the

    University District.

A Pharmacists Role in Pharmacyclics, Inc.

    April 15, 2015

We thank you to all the wonderful preceptors, student volunteers, and student organizations that helped make

    all these events possible!

With our powers combined, we are SNPHA!

Dr. Mark Fosdal, a Medical Science Liaison at Pharmacyclics, Inc., discussed a new drug in their pipeline, IMBRUVICA (ibrutinib), indicated for the use of

chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), as well as opportunities that lie within the company for both pharmacists and student pharmacists.
