General Definition of a Project

An undertaking that has a beginning and an end and is carried out to meet established goals within cost, schedule and quality objectives.

Statistical Project

A statistical project includes all operations involved in planning, collecting, and processing information, including dissemination for one data collection operation such as a census or survey.

• A goal must be realistic

Criteria for Evaluating Scope Statement

• Ensure that key components have been reviewed and included in assumptions and constraints to avoid major changes during detailed planning

• Check that procedures are included for review, reporting, change control, version control and approvals, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

Updating Project Plans

• A project plan is a living document that changes continually throughout the life of the project

• Project updates must be made on a timely basis so that progress can be tracked according to the baseline

• The final project plan, including all updates compared to baseline, assists in project evaluation and should be included in your organization’s documentation.
