Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over
the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
–Micah 7:18
Meditate upon: Micah 7:15-20
Lord, why do we attempt to convince ourselves that we
can make the world better without You? Your mercy
toward us is the example we should strive to follow. Let
Your mercy extinguish our anger and quell the desire for
revenge. Teach us to delight in extending forgiveness
and grace to others.
We exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the
fainthearted, uphold the weak, and be patient with all.
-1 Thessalonians 5:14
Meditate upon: 1 Thessalonians 5:11-15
Lord, everything we do reflects our relationship with
You. Teach us to do all things out of love for You that
we might foster peace. Help us comfort the fainthearted
and uphold the weak. To be patient with the impatient
and pursue mercy over retribution. May we be a light to
those around us.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
-Romans 5:8
Meditate upon: Romans 5:7-17
Lord, help us to understand that salvation is a gift. It is
not just of freedom from the shackles and punishment
of sin, but an opportunity to journey with the King and
offer freedom to others. A gift we cannot earn nor
deserve, but one we must accept with humble love.
Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life,
and there are few who find it
.-Matthew 7:14
Meditate upon: Matthew 7:13-14 & Luke 13:24
Lord, how does walking this narrow path prepare us for
greater things? Will the steep climbs teach us endurance;
cutting through the brush strengthen our arms;
traversing the mire strengthen our legs? We cannot truly
know this side of heaven what we are being prepared
for. Lord, help us to continue to put one foot in front of
the other.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have
not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
-1 Corinthians 13:1
Meditate upon: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Lord, Your love is the example by which we must live.
You desire for us to live in active, continuous love. To
actively be patient and kind. To actively avoid pride,
jealously, and selfishness. To continuously seek to do
good and keep our thoughts from evil. To always bear
trials with love, to always believe in Your loving-
goodness, to never lose hope. That love never fails.
I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.
-Ezekiel 36:26
Meditate upon: Ezekiel 22-32
Lord, our hearts can become as hard as granite. But
Your love cracks them open, revealing the fire that
dwells within. Let the mighty wind of Your spirit fuel
the flames and melt away the hardened surface. Let us
flow like molten lava through this world, reshaping it in
Your image.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
-Psalm 37:23
Meditate upon: Psalm 37:7-24
Lord, embolden us with Your spirit to walk confidently
in You. Help us step out in faith, sure-footed that where
You lead, we can go. The enemy sways men with
prideful hearts, divisive actions, and boisterous words.
Help us to hold firm to You when the enemy does his
best to stir up self-centeredness, strife, and argument.
Let our hearts be humble, our actions meek, and our
words few. For You reward the righteous.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
Revelation 3:20
Meditate upon: Revelation 3:20-22
Lord, the enemy distracts us from Your voice. He fills
our lives with things instead of people, our minds with
knowledge instead of wisdom, our hearts with selfish
desires instead of a desire for relationship with You.
Help us close our ears to the enemy and open them to
Your Spirit that we might receive the best things You
have for us.
And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be
alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
-Genesis 2:18
Meditate upon: Genesis 2:18-25
Lord, the first thing You saw upon the earth that was
not good was for man to dwell alone. Lord, why do we
not have the same ache in our hearts for the lonely? In
our depths we know isolation tortures the soul. Our
hearts cry out for love, our minds for engagement, our
hands to be held. Lord, help us to be more attentive and
loving to those around us.
But who can endure the DAY of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?
For He is like a refiner’s fire
-Malachi 3:2
Meditate upon: Malachi 3:1-18
Lord, You are the Holy Fire that purifies our hearts.
You burn away the dross of sin but preserve
righteousness. Lord, help us to stay in the heat of trial
until we can see Your image reflected in us. For each
time You intensify the heat, we are made more like You.
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noon DAY.
-Isaiah 58:10
Meditate upon: Isaiah 58:1-14
Lord, pierce through the darkness and fill us with the
hope of dawn. Let the warmth of Your love preserve us
as we do Your will. Let the light of Your grace lead us.
For there is no way out of the darkness except if we are
guided by Your hand.
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you,
Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father
gives you the true bread from heaven.
-John 6:31
Meditate upon: John 6:31-40
Lord, teach us to feast ourselves upon the goodness of
Your word. It is life sustaining bread in the desert of the
world. Help us collect the manna of Your presence each
morning, for it is mercy and grace for the coming
DAY. May we never hunger for anything but You.
For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the
hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.
-Philemon 1:7
Meditate upon: Philemon 1:1-25
Lord, joy is a direct result of Your love and grace. We
feel it when we dwell near You. There is joy in seeing
the fetters of sin fall away at Your command. There is
joy in You answering our intercessions. There is joy in
the promise of eternity with You. For once we've
experienced Your intimate presence, we see how
minuscule our discomforts, disadvantages, and
disappointments are.
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
-Psalm 147:4
Meditate upon: Psalm 137:1-11
Lord, You count the stars and know them by name, so
why do we not trust You to do mighty things in our
lives? Your word is full of promises. Why do we not
hold fast to them in assurance? Your delight is in those
who trust in You. Help us to put our faith in Your
power and love for us.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
-Psalm 20:7
Meditate upon: Psalm 20:1-9
Lord, You whisper in our hearts, ‘trust Me.’ Instead we
trust in our health, our homes, our friends and family,
even in our churches, but they are all corruptible. You
alone are holy. To walk in righteousness, we must trust
in You alone. Build Your temple in our hearts and Your
kingdom through our lives.
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth
through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren,
love one another fervently with a pure heart,
-1 Peter 1:22
Meditate upon: 1 Peter 1:17-25
Lord, flood us with Your truth and love. Let them wash
away the sin and the fear that poisons our souls. Let
them be a balm to the wounds of our hearts. Let them
be peace to the weariness of our minds. Let them be
strength to our weak and weary bodies. So we might
love one another more fervently.
Save me, O God!
For the waters have come up to my neck.
-Psalm 69:1
Meditate upon: Psalm 69:1-16
Lord, the waves crash over us. We despair as we exhaust
our energy attempting to row out beyond the breakers
of life in our own strength. Lord, only You can keep us
from being dashed upon the rocks of sin. Lead us to the
current of Your love that it might carry us through life.
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
-Psalm 130:5
Meditate upon: Psalm 130:1-8
Lord, we wait on You to receive instruction and
provision. Help us to hear and obey. To go and do all
that You put upon our hearts. May we pour out on the
world Your love, Your goodness, and Your truth.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been
poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
-Romans 5:5
Meditate upon: Romans 5:1-6
Lord, the Holy Spirit seeks out the hearts of men,
spreading the pollen of His divine love wherever He
goes. He will linger in the heart that receives Him. His
love will take root and bear seeds of good works. As the
seasons change those works will allow spiritual fruit to
grow and abound. Help us let Him linger in our hearts.
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
-Psalm 63:1
Meditate upon: Psalm 63:1-11
Lord, this dry and thirsty world we live in is easily
kindled by the fire of hatred. Quench it with showers of
love. For Your love sinks deep and encourages growth
in the roots of relationships which blossom into
community. Pluck out iniquity and fertilize our hearts
with Your word.
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
-2 Corinthians 5:7
Meditate upon: 2 Corinthians 5:5-9
Lord, help us to stand steadfast. Help us remember that
what You have called and anointed us to do, You will
lead us through. You make a way for us. You overcome
the enemy. You establish every good work. Help us walk
by faith.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue;
but in deed and in truth.
-1 John 3:18
Meditate upon: 1 John 3:18-24
Lord, You instruct us to be an example to those around
us not only in word, but in charity, in spirit, in faith, and
in truth. Too often we judge those around us instead of
focusing on the intentions of our own hearts. Let us
busy ourselves with learning how to love from Your
word, living out the doctrine of our faith and using our
giftings to serve. For then we will be an instrument in
Your hand.
I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely:
for mine anger is turned away from him.
-Hosea 14:4
Meditate upon: Hosea 14:1-9
Lord, do we really comprehend how You freely loves
us? How You pour out Your love and grace on all
mankind? How You love us even in our most wretched
moments? Like a loving Father, You lament when we
choose sin, but You never forsake us. Instead, You offer
the grace of salvation. Unearned, undeserved grace that
we might stand in awe of Your goodness and surrender
to Your lordship.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
-Isaiah 55:9
Meditate upon: Isaiah 55:6-13
Lord, help us acknowledge we are scared to give our
lives over to You. Teach us how to surrender and trust
that Your ways are higher than ours. Lord, You alone
are holy. You alone make us holy. Remind us often we
cannot change one another except by being living
examples of a surrendered life. May others see the
power of Your grace, love, and mercy working our lives,
until the hole in them begs to be filled by You
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also
ought to wash one another’s feet.
-John 13:14
Meditate upon: John 13:5-17
Lord, do we love You? Or do we love the idea of the
benevolent King who loves us? Do we love Your
holiness? Do we love You when the enemy persecutes
us? Do we love You in word and deed, when it means
touching the leper, talking to the adulterer, eating with
the tax collector, or washing dirty feet? When we do
those things, do we give You the glory? Lord, help us to
deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow You.
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you,
for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
-2 Corinthians 12:9
Meditate upon: 2 Corinthians 12:7-11
Lord, You know our greatest fears and weaknesses. You
know how to lift us up and humble us. Often we do not
understand why, especially when You ask us to let go of
our strengths and cling to You. Help us to trust You
when our health fails and our cabinets are bare, when all
that seems necessary is stripped away. When we feel we
have nothing, it is then that we hear You clearly and
Your provision and protection become evident.
Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
-John 21:15
Meditate upon: John 21:15-17
Lord, do we love You. For if we love You, then Love
becomes our Sustainer and not the work of our own
feeble minds and hands. Love becomes the driving force
that moves more powerfully than any man. Love
becomes our strength and overcomes fear. And whether
we are used or laid aside no longer matters, because
nothing can take away our love for You.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
-Psalm 145:3
Meditate upon: Psalm 145:1-13
Lord, the depth of Your greatness is unsearchable. No
song or poem can truly capture it. No human love can
properly mirror it. No act of charity or mercy can
express it. Yet all three You call us to do in
remembrance of what Your love did for us.
Oh, sing to the LORD a new song!
Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
-Psalm 96:1
Meditate upon: Psalm 96:1-13
Lord, train our ears to hear Your eternal love song, the
song of creation, the song of salvation, the gospel song.
Train our hearts to sing it, to live it, that all who see us
could never deny Your love dwells in us. From glory to
glory, from earth to heaven, let our songs rise back to
You as sweet offerings of praise.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”
-Lamentations 3:24
Meditate upon: Lamentations 3:18-26
Lord, every morning is a new beginning. May our first
thought be about You. May our first words be ones of
adoration and gratitude. For Your gifts are new every
morning. You give us a fresh filling of Your Spirit, new
mercies, and most of all a chance to live and love a
broken and dying world. May we seek You first and
draw so near that we cannot help but be filled with joy,
love, and peace that surpasses understanding.
