IntroductiontoTRITHORTRITHORconsistsofaninnercorelayerimpregnatedwithdeltamethrinandlaminatedtopandbottomwitharuggedplasticmembrane.Thiscomplexentrapmentprocessensuresthatthedeltamethrinremainscontainedwithintheinnercore.Thisensuresitisnon-hazardoustoanyonehandlingtheproductorwhocomesintocontactwithit.
ThetermitecontrolagentinTRITHOR,deltamethrin,isaninsecticidethatismodelledonthenaturalpyrethrinsproducedbythechrysanthemumdaisy,nature’sowncureforinsectproblems.Consequentlyitislowintoxicitytowarm-bloodedanimals,thoughdeadlytotermitesandotherinsects.Deltamethrinbothkillsandstronglyrepelstermites.DeltamethrinisaregisteredtermiticidewiththeAustralianPesticides&VeterinaryMedicinesAuthority(APVMA).
TheinnercoreofTRITHORaddstothedurabilityandeffectivenessofthesystem.TRITHORhasundergoneextensiveindependenttestingandevaluationinAustraliaandoverseas.Theinnercore,inadditiontoholdingthedeltamethrinsoitremainseverreadytokillanddetertermites,isstructuredtopreventtermitepenetration.
TheupperbluelayeristhickerandensuresthatTRITHORprovidesanadditionalbenefitbyservingasamoisturevapourbarrierordamp-proofcourse.
Thebottomyellowlayerprotectsthedeltamethrinandpreventsleachingintotheenvironment,therebyensuringthatitremainslockedawayfromsoilorganismsandsoilmoisture.
ThepolymersusedintheformationofTRITHORareresistanttotermitesand,sinceTRITHORalsoactsasamoisturebarrier,itfurtherreducestheattractivenessofapropertytotermites.
FlexibleTRITHORisaflexiblesystemthatmaybeinstalledinmanydifficultandcomplicatedsituationsincludingmultiplepenetrations,stepdowns,etc.TRITHORcanbemouldedaroundunusualbuildingdesignsandiseasilycutandjoined,ensuringtotalprotectionatalltimes.Itisquicklyinstalledandhasnosharpedgestoaffectothertradespeople.
LongLasting-EnvironmentallySoundThedeltamethrinremainssafelylockedupwithintheinnercore,soitcannotentertheenvironment.
ToughTRITHORisexceptionallytough.AsharpcuttingbladeisrequiredtocutTRITHOR.Bluntobjects,workmen’sboots,etc.havenochanceofpenetratingTRITHOR.Ifaholeortearisaccidentallyproduceditiseasilyrepaired.
DesignedfortheHarshestConditionsTRITHORwasdesignedfortheharshestconditionsandhasbeentestedinAustraliaandSEAsiatoensureprotectionagainstthevoracioustermitesnativetotheseregions.

TRITHORSystemsTRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUS™Thisisacompleteunder-slabtreatmentprovidingprotectionfrombothtermitesandmoisture.TheTRITHORSystemisinstalledontopofthebeddingsandbeforethesteelreinforcingmeshislaid.AllpipesandpenetrationsareindividuallyprotectedbyTRITHORaspartofthistreatment.TheconcreteisthenpouredontopoftheTRITHOR.Wheninstalledasacompleteunder-slabsystem,TRITHORPLUSprovidestotaltermiteprotection.
TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSisourrecommendedmethodofinstallation.Itprovidesastand-alonetotaltermitedefencesystemforthewholeproperty.Thismeansthattermitesareunlikelytostayinthearea,reducingsignificantlythepotentialfortermiteproblems.
TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSshouldbeyourfirstchoiceinanyareasofhightermiterisk.

AuthorisedOperatorsTRITHORTermiteProtectionmayonlybeinstalledbyTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorswhohavebeentrainedandQualityGuaranteedbyEnsystextohelpensurethatinstallationsaredonecorrectlyandthatsystemscomplywiththerequirementsoftheAustralianStandardSeriesAS3600Termitemanagement.
TRITHORAuthorisedOperatorsmustdemonstratetheirunderstandingof,andcompliancewith,theproceduresandrequirementsofthisTechnicalManual.Anybreachof,ordeviationfrom,therequiredproceduresmayresultintheterminationoftheirAuthorisation.
OnlyappropriatelytrainedandlicensedpestmanagementprofessionalscanqualifyasTRITHORAuthorisedOperators.TheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatormustnominatetrainedinstallerswhowillbeoperatingundertheirLicence.
Licencesmaybecancelledandsupplystoppedtoanycompanythatactsfraudulentlyordemonstratesconsistentlypoorqualityworkmanship.

LimitationsWheretheconcreteslabformspartofthetermiteprotectionsystem,itmustbeconstructedinaccordancewithAS2870and/orAS3600.
ItistheresponsibilityoftheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatortoliaisewiththeBuilderandensurethattheinstallationproceduresarecorrectlyperformedsothatthecompletedTRITHORTermiteProtectioncanbecertifiedbytheTRITHORAuthorisedOperator.
TheTRITHORInstallermustprovideadvicetobricklayersonhowtoinstallthebrickworkoncetheTRITHORisinplace.
Builder’sResponsibilityTheBuildermustensurethat:
1. theunder-slabsoilislevelledandthevapourbarriermembraneinstallednohigherthan25mmaroundpipes;
2. allpipepenetrationsareinstalledintheirfinalposition;
3. theslabreinforcementmeshisplacedwithintheslabareaandfixedonsuitable‘chairs’atthecorrectheight;
4. theyareawareofthelimitationsofTRITHORTermiteProtectionanditsplacementrequirements;and
5. theyinformtheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorofanydamageto,disturbanceof,ormisalignmentoftheTRITHORTermiteProtectionpriortothepouringoftheslab.(TheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorwillthenrectify.)
InstallationProcedures–CavityWallPerimeters1. DeterminethewidthofTRITHORrequiredby
liaisingwiththebuilderand/orbricklayersanddeterminehowmanybricksaretobeinstalleddowntothefootingfortheDPClevel.Thismayvaryduetostepdownssoplanahead.Typically300mmTRITHORStripsarerequired.
2. InstalltheTRITHORtoamaximumwidthof70mmonthetopoftheslab(minimum50mm),fixingittotheslabwithRamsetnailsandwashers(preferred),orconcretenails,approximatelyevery350-400mm;oruseanapprovedgluesystem.
3. EnsureanycorneroverlapsarenailedtominimisemovementoftheTRITHORwhenthetimberframesareerected.
4. Ensureoverlapof50–75mmisallowedforareassuchasbaywindowsandnailthesetoo.
5. TRITHORcanalsobeeffectivelyadheredtoconcreteslabsorbrickandblockworkwithagenerousapplicationofTRITHORFoam

Adhesiveonthemasonrysurfacebeforepositioning.TheTRITHORisthenfirmlypressedintoposition.
6. Concrete/Ramsetnailswithwashersareusednearallcornerstoassistwithfixingandtoallowtensioningbetweencorners.
7. Pre-formedcorners(stronglyrecommended)shouldbeinstalledpriortogluinglongerperimetersections,orthecornersmaybefoldedaftergluing,aspartoftheinstallation.
8. Whennailing,ensurethenailheadsfinishflushwiththeslabandprotectagainstgapsorundulationswhentheframesarestood.
9. Oncethesystemisinplace,thebricklayercanlaythebrickstothefootingtotheheightoftheDPC/Flashing.TheTRITHORthenneedstobelaidontothebrickworkpayingcarefulattentiontocorners.Corners,includingbaywindows,arefixedwithanapprovedadhesive,and/oraqualityclothtape.
10.Priortocompletion,removeanyoff-cutsandnoteifyouwillberequiredtomakefurthersitevisits;e.g.toinstallacrossadriveway,wheelchairaccess,patios,columnsandisolatedpiers.
11.AMeterBoxstickerisplacedonceinstallationiscompleteinaccordwithAS3660.1.
AlternateMethod–GlueTheuseofTRITHORFoamAdhesiveSprayisapprovedasanalternativeinstallationmethod.
TheTRITHORisinstalledafterthefirstlayerofbricksisplaced.ThisenablestheTRITHORtobegluedtothefaceoftheslabandlaidoverthetopbrick.ThisgivesaprofessionalinstallationandallowstheinstallertopositiontheTRITHORcorrectlytothefaceofthebricks.
TheTRITHORisnailedat150mmcentrestothefaceoftheslabinadditiontothegluetoensureasecuregrip.
Intheeventofarippleoccurringwhenusingtheglue,thismustbecorrected.
NOVITHORproductsmayalsobeusedinassociationwiththeTRITHOR.
OneBrickRebateAnyextraTRITHORisplacedintothewallcavity.Ifthefinishedbrickworkiscomprisedoffacebricks,TRITHORTermiteProtectionshouldbesetinsideoftheexternalbrickwall.
Whenthestripistobelaidbeforethefirstlayerofbricks,thentheTRITHORneedstobenailedtotheframingtimberstoprotectituntilthebricksarelaid.Anyexcessispushedintothewallcavity.

InspectionZonesTheAustralianStandardAS3660.1Termitemanagement–Newbuildingwork,referstoa75mminspectionzonebetweentheexposededgeofatermitesystemintheouterwallofabuildingandthegradelevelbeneathit.
Thepurposeofthisinspectionzoneistoensurethatsufficientun-occludedsurfaceexiststoalloweasyidentificationoftermitemudtubesuptheouterwallstructureduringatermiteinspection.ItwasdecidedatthetimebytheStandardsCommitteethatadistanceof75mm(thedepthofonestandardbuildingbrick)wouldallowforchanginggradelevelsduetogardeningactivitiesinadjacentsoil,thedepthofgrowinggrassandsoon,whilestillleavingsufficientun-occludedsurfacetoallowforefficientinspection.
Wherethegradeisfixedandunchangingagainstthewallsurface,suchasinthecaseofconcreteorpavedpathways,patios,anddriveways,thisinspectionzonemaybereduced.Thisisparticularlyimportantwherestep-downsindoorwaysandwindowsoccur.
WithinstallationsofTRITHORTermiteProtection,wherehardsurfacessuchasconcreteorpavingexist,thisinspectionzonemaybereducedtoaminimumdistanceof25mmbetweentheouterexposededgeoftheTRITHORandthetopsurfaceoftheconcreteorpaving.Thisdistanceisconsideredadequatetoallowforidentificationoftermitemudtubesbythosetrainedtodoso,orbyanobservantpropertyowner
StepDownsStepsdownsneedtobecompletelyprotectedwithTRITHOR.
BeforeinstallingTRITHORyouneedtocleanoffanyexcessmortarfromthetoplayerofbricksandcontinuedowntheverticalfaceoftheinternalbrickwork.ThisbetterallowsforTRITHORtobefittedbetweentheedgeoftheconcreteslabandthebricks.A400mmlengthofTRITHORisusedoninternalcornersandissecuredtothebrickworkwithconcretenails.TheperimeterTRITHORisthencuttoshapeandsecuredoverthis.Pre-formedcornersareavailableandrecommendedtomakethisprocesssimpler,quickerandmoreeffective.
Allinternalstepdowninstallationsmustbeintegratedwiththecavityprotectiontopreventconcealedtermiteentry.
