IntroductiontoTRITHORTRITHORconsistsofaninnercorelayerimpregnatedwithdeltamethrinandlaminatedtopandbottomwitharuggedplasticmembrane.Thiscomplexentrapmentprocessensuresthatthedeltamethrinremainscontainedwithintheinnercore.Thisensuresitisnon-hazardoustoanyonehandlingtheproductorwhocomesintocontactwithit.

ThetermitecontrolagentinTRITHOR,deltamethrin,isaninsecticidethatismodelledonthenaturalpyrethrinsproducedbythechrysanthemumdaisy,nature’sowncureforinsectproblems.Consequentlyitislowintoxicitytowarm-bloodedanimals,thoughdeadlytotermitesandotherinsects.Deltamethrinbothkillsandstronglyrepelstermites.DeltamethrinisaregisteredtermiticidewiththeAustralianPesticides&VeterinaryMedicinesAuthority(APVMA).

TheinnercoreofTRITHORaddstothedurabilityandeffectivenessofthesystem.TRITHORhasundergoneextensiveindependenttestingandevaluationinAustraliaandoverseas.Theinnercore,inadditiontoholdingthedeltamethrinsoitremainseverreadytokillanddetertermites,isstructuredtopreventtermitepenetration.

TheupperbluelayeristhickerandensuresthatTRITHORprovidesanadditionalbenefitbyservingasamoisturevapourbarrierordamp-proofcourse.

Thebottomyellowlayerprotectsthedeltamethrinandpreventsleachingintotheenvironment,therebyensuringthatitremainslockedawayfromsoilorganismsandsoilmoisture.

ThepolymersusedintheformationofTRITHORareresistanttotermitesand,sinceTRITHORalsoactsasamoisturebarrier,itfurtherreducestheattractivenessofapropertytotermites.

FlexibleTRITHORisaflexiblesystemthatmaybeinstalledinmanydifficultandcomplicatedsituationsincludingmultiplepenetrations,stepdowns,etc.TRITHORcanbemouldedaroundunusualbuildingdesignsandiseasilycutandjoined,ensuringtotalprotectionatalltimes.Itisquicklyinstalledandhasnosharpedgestoaffectothertradespeople.

LongLasting-EnvironmentallySoundThedeltamethrinremainssafelylockedupwithintheinnercore,soitcannotentertheenvironment.

ToughTRITHORisexceptionallytough.AsharpcuttingbladeisrequiredtocutTRITHOR.Bluntobjects,workmen’sboots,etc.havenochanceofpenetratingTRITHOR.Ifaholeortearisaccidentallyproduceditiseasilyrepaired.

DesignedfortheHarshestConditionsTRITHORwasdesignedfortheharshestconditionsandhasbeentestedinAustraliaandSEAsiatoensureprotectionagainstthevoracioustermitesnativetotheseregions.

HealthandSafetyTRITHORposesnorisktothehomeowner,constructionworkersortheenvironment.Itisidealforuseinsensitiveorallergy-freeenvironments.

TRITHORSystemsTRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUS™Thisisacompleteunder-slabtreatmentprovidingprotectionfrombothtermitesandmoisture.TheTRITHORSystemisinstalledontopofthebeddingsandbeforethesteelreinforcingmeshislaid.AllpipesandpenetrationsareindividuallyprotectedbyTRITHORaspartofthistreatment.TheconcreteisthenpouredontopoftheTRITHOR.Wheninstalledasacompleteunder-slabsystem,TRITHORPLUSprovidestotaltermiteprotection.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSisourrecommendedmethodofinstallation.Itprovidesastand-alonetotaltermitedefencesystemforthewholeproperty.Thismeansthattermitesareunlikelytostayinthearea,reducingsignificantlythepotentialfortermiteproblems.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSshouldbeyourfirstchoiceinanyareasofhightermiterisk.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUScomesin1500mmwidesheetswhichareoverlappedby200mmandsealedbeforebeingtapedwithaqualitytape.ThisholdstheTRITHORfirmlyinplaceuntiltheconcretepour.

Termitescan’tpenetratethesesealedjointssinceTRITHORishighlyrepellenttotermites.And,atthejoints,therepellenceisdoubledduetothedoublelayerofTRITHOR.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSprovidesbothtermiteprotectionforyourpropertyaswellastherequiredMoistureVapourMembrane.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionTRITHORTermiteProtectionisaflexibletermiteprotectionsystemwhichcanbeusedaspartofacompletetermitemanagementsysteminassociationwithotherapprovedsystems.Thisisthemostcommonmannerofuse.

Itisparticularlyusedinassociationwithaconcreteslab,pouredandcuredinaccordwiththerequirementsofAS2870:ResidentialslabsandfootingsandAS3600:Concretestructures.

TheslabinthiscaseformspartofthetermiteprotectionsystemwithTRITHORTermiteProtectionprotectingthehighrisktermitepenetrationareas.Itisappliedinarangeofwidths(strips)tosuittheparticularbuildingdesign.

Itisalsousedfortheprotectionofbearerandjoistconstructionsandpiers.AnnualInspections

Alltermitemanagementsystemsrequireatleastanannualinspectionbyaprofessionaltimberpestinspector,inaccordwiththerequirementsoftheAustralianStandardSeriesAS3660Termitemanagement.Theseinspectionsareintegraltogoodtermitemanagement.

AuthorisedOperatorsTRITHORTermiteProtectionmayonlybeinstalledbyTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorswhohavebeentrainedandQualityGuaranteedbyEnsystextohelpensurethatinstallationsaredonecorrectlyandthatsystemscomplywiththerequirementsoftheAustralianStandardSeriesAS3600Termitemanagement.

TRITHORAuthorisedOperatorsmustdemonstratetheirunderstandingof,andcompliancewith,theproceduresandrequirementsofthisTechnicalManual.Anybreachof,ordeviationfrom,therequiredproceduresmayresultintheterminationoftheirAuthorisation.

OnlyappropriatelytrainedandlicensedpestmanagementprofessionalscanqualifyasTRITHORAuthorisedOperators.TheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatormustnominatetrainedinstallerswhowillbeoperatingundertheirLicence.

Licencesmaybecancelledandsupplystoppedtoanycompanythatactsfraudulentlyordemonstratesconsistentlypoorqualityworkmanship.

Installers’StepbyStepGuide1. Ensurethesitehasbeenlevelledandallpipe

penetrationsareinstalledintheirfinalpositions.

3. TRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSislaidoutinaccordwiththediagramsinthisManualandasperthenormalrequirementsforamoisturemembrane.

4.TakegreatcaretoensurethatthesystemformedbyTRITHORTermiteProtectionPLUSiscompleteandcontinuous.

5. Careshouldbetakentoensurethatthesystemisnotaffectedbyformworkpegs.

6. Manyslabsaredesignedwithinternalstructuralbeamsaspartoftheconcretefooting.WhenTRITHORislaidunderthesebeamsmorematerialisrequiredthantheoriginalsitefootprint.Wherethesebeamsaredeeperthan150mm,thereisnorequirementtolayTRITHOR.ThesethickenedbeamshaveextrareinforcingandareconsideredatermitesystembytheAustralianStandard.(Sincetheystillrequireprotectionagainstmoisturewithanormalmoisturemembrane,werecommendTRITHORisstillused.)Thisappliestobothinternalandexternalbeams.

InstallationofTRITHORTermiteProtectionTRITHORTermiteProtectionusesstripsofTRITHOR(100mm-1000mmwide)inassociationwithaconcreteslabpouredandcuredinaccordwiththerequirementsofAS2870:ResidentialslabsandfootingsandAS3600:Concretestructures.TheslabinthiscaseformspartofthetermiteprotectionsystemwiththeTRITHORTermiteProtectionprotectingthepossibletermitepenetrationareas.

TRITHORTermiteProtectionshouldbeinstalledinaccordancewiththeinstructionscontainedinthisManualandtheAustralianStandardAS3660TermitemanagementPart1:Newbuildingwork.

WheninstalledinaccordancewiththisManual,TRITHORTermiteProtectionshouldprovideprotectionagainsttheentryofsubterraneantermitesprovidedallotheraspectsofthetotalsystemareapprovedandcorrectlyinstalled.

Anessentialaspectofinstallationistorecognisethatitwillbethestructuralelements,thatareplacedaftertheTRITHORsystem,thatholdthesysteminplace.

BeforeinstallingTRITHOR,alwayscleanoffallexcessmortarfromareasthatTRITHORwillbeplacedover.

WhenjoiningTRITHORStrips,overlapthemby50-75mmandoptionallysealwithTRITHORAdhesiveoraqualityClothTape.

LimitationsWheretheconcreteslabformspartofthetermiteprotectionsystem,itmustbeconstructedinaccordancewithAS2870and/orAS3600.

ItistheresponsibilityoftheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatortoliaisewiththeBuilderandensurethattheinstallationproceduresarecorrectlyperformedsothatthecompletedTRITHORTermiteProtectioncanbecertifiedbytheTRITHORAuthorisedOperator.

TheTRITHORInstallermustprovideadvicetobricklayersonhowtoinstallthebrickworkoncetheTRITHORisinplace.

Builder’sResponsibilityTheBuildermustensurethat:

1. theunder-slabsoilislevelledandthevapourbarriermembraneinstallednohigherthan25mmaroundpipes;

2. allpipepenetrationsareinstalledintheirfinalposition;

3. theslabreinforcementmeshisplacedwithintheslabareaandfixedonsuitable‘chairs’atthecorrectheight;

4. theyareawareofthelimitationsofTRITHORTermiteProtectionanditsplacementrequirements;and

5. theyinformtheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorofanydamageto,disturbanceof,ormisalignmentoftheTRITHORTermiteProtectionpriortothepouringoftheslab.(TheTRITHORAuthorisedOperatorwillthenrectify.)

InstallationProcedures–CavityWallPerimeters1. DeterminethewidthofTRITHORrequiredby

liaisingwiththebuilderand/orbricklayersanddeterminehowmanybricksaretobeinstalleddowntothefootingfortheDPClevel.Thismayvaryduetostepdownssoplanahead.Typically300mmTRITHORStripsarerequired.

2. InstalltheTRITHORtoamaximumwidthof70mmonthetopoftheslab(minimum50mm),fixingittotheslabwithRamsetnailsandwashers(preferred),orconcretenails,approximatelyevery350-400mm;oruseanapprovedgluesystem.

3. EnsureanycorneroverlapsarenailedtominimisemovementoftheTRITHORwhenthetimberframesareerected.

4. Ensureoverlapof50–75mmisallowedforareassuchasbaywindowsandnailthesetoo.

5. TRITHORcanalsobeeffectivelyadheredtoconcreteslabsorbrickandblockworkwithagenerousapplicationofTRITHORFoam
