(AP15Malaysia Conference)
7-9th August 2015
Hotel GTower Kuala Lumpur , 199 , Jalan Tun Razak , 50400 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Inaugural Session (first day of the conference) is on 7th August 2015 at 9.30 am.
Dear & Distinguished AP15Malaysia Conference Delegates,
Welcome to Malaysia!
My hearty welcome to the beautiful country of Malaysia!
Apply any criterion to name a beautiful country! Take infrastructure, access to good
health facilities, safety and low crime rate, political stability, cost of living, the people,
spoken language, access to religious places of worship, culture and recreation.
Undoubtedly, Malaysia has a place to be on the top! Malaysia has beautiful forests as
well.
Kuala Lumpur! A fabulous place to visit!!
Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and is the largest city in the country as well.
The famous Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest building in the world, provides a bird's-eye
view of the cosmopolitan metropolis and houses a multitude of shops and art galleries.
There are so many tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur that you need to visit without fail.
Financial Inclusion!
Coming to the theme of the conference ‘Financial inclusion’ is a very interesting development which should be practiced in every economy as the unbanked and poor segment of the global population suffer from the following social malaises. Among others, the problems include high transaction costs of banks, high risks of default owing to hidden costs, financial products that are not according to the requirements of the people under poverty. For instance, in Sub-Saharan Africa, only 24% of adults have bank accounts (Geoffrey Muzigiti, Oliver Schmidt, ‘Moving Forward’ (January 2013). UN’s Mission The term “financial inclusion” has gained importance since the early 2000s, as a result of research findings about financial exclusion and its direct correlation to poverty. The United Nations defines the goals of financial inclusion as follows: (http://aid.dfat.gov.au/Publications/Documents/financialservices-fullstrategy.pdf):
3
• Access at a reasonable cost for all households to a full range of financial services, including savings or deposit services, payment and transfer services, credit and insurance; • Sound and safe institutions governed by clear regulation and industry performance standards; • Financial and institutional sustainability, to ensure continuity and certainty of investment; and • Competition to ensure choice and affordability for clients. Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, on 29 December 2003, said: “The stark reality is that most poor people in the world still lack access to sustainable financial services, whether it is savings, credit or insurance. The great challenge before us is to address the constraints that exclude people from full participation in the financial sector. Together, we can and must build inclusive financial sectors that help people improve their lives”. More recently, Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Executive Director Alfred Hannig highlighted on 24 April 2013 progress in financial inclusion during the IMF-World Bank 2013 Spring Meetings: "Financial inclusion is no longer a fringe subject. It is now recognized as an important part of the mainstream thinking on economic development based on country leadership." Given the above background, we are extremely delighted to host the Fourth Asia-Pacific Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences in this great and fabulous city. I am sure, the delegates would gain a memorable experience at the conference with a lot of value addition to their career!
Have a great academic, tourism and networking experience in Malaysia! Once again, my hearty welcome to every one of you! Best regards, Dr. Elango Rengasamy, Conference Director, Fourth Asia-Pacific Conference on Global Business, Economics, Finance and Social Sciences (7-9th August, 2015) Hotel GTower Kuala Lumpur, 199, Jalan Tun Razak, 50400 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
