Programme features

Softwire in actionSoftwire has worked with the BBC to migrate a number of BBC applications from their own hosting platform onto AWS. This included managing the switchover to ensure smooth traffic distribution and no downtime, switching from one database to another without losing any data, building in new logging and monitoring systems, defining a new deployment and rollback process and providing consultancy on the kinds of improvements they could then make to the applications, in order to take advantage of the opportunities that AWS gave the BBC.

Softwire has designed and built two major systems for News UK. They developed a serverless architecture using AWS Lambda to manage WordPress instances, using Infrastructure as Code principles to design the API Gateway.

They also led a project to design and build an automated deployment system to be used across all of News UK’s applications, creating a file format that codified infrastructure and environment settings.
