the Forest Resource Education Center in Jackson.
From April through August, she monitors the 27 nest
boxes throughout the
Center by visiting each nest
twice every week, and
keeping records of the
nests, eggs, and babies
born. She is the only
person who is allowed to
open the nest boxes since
she has received special
training on how to handle
the eggs and the birds
(babies and adults). She
has been doing this for 8 years and has seen over 400 baby bluebirds born

For tickets, call

office.
Please join Pastor Courtney and other area pastors/clergy from the Jackson area as we honor the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3rd at 7 PM at the Jackson Municipal complex on Bennetts Mills Road in the Council Chambers room.
Devin Berry is a Masters of Divinity student from Princeton Seminary and will join us this
summer as our general pastoral intern. Devin comes from South Boston, Massachusetts and is
very excited to be working at Cornerstone this summer. Devin has a Boston accent that she has spent many years working on hiding, but if she is
tired or excited she sounds exactly like a character in the movie “The Departed” or “Good Will Hunting”. Her father, who raised her, taught her that the Boston Red Sox were the saints of
the church. One of the most difficult things about living in New Jersey has been the number of
Yankees fans. Her favorite things in life include listening to music (primarily Celtic Rock, Classic Rock, and Country), reading, and exploring. She started attending a Presbyterian church on her
own when she was in elementary school and then convinced her father to attend. She has been
ordained as both a Deacon and an Elder and is under care of the Presbytery of Boston.
Carson Dockum will serve this summer as our Youth/Young Adult Seminary Intern. Carson grew up in Murrieta, California and graduated from Azusa
Pacific University in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in theology. He is just finishing up his second year at Princeton Theological Seminary and has one more year in their M.Div program. He enjoys spending time
with people, playing games, shooting hoops, eating food, and just talking about
life. He is very excited to have the opportunity to serve in ministry this summer at Cornerstone and can't wait to get to know
all of us better!
Meet our Summer Interns from Princeton Seminary!
They will be starting on May 27th.
Summer Worship at Liberty
Due to a construction project at McAuliffe this summer, Cornerstone will be worshiping
at Liberty High School in July and August. Here we go again! We have
worshiped in 5 different schools, and we’ve been at Liberty before – everything will work out just fine and we’ll be back at McAuliffe in
September. The Jackson School District has been very supportive in making this move as painless as possible, and they
have agreed to let us store the items we use on a weekly basis inside the classroom that
we will have allocated for Sunday School. This is a huge help – halleluiah!

Maundy Thursday/Good Friday Service
On April 5, Cornerstone celebrated Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in a combined service with the Jackson United Methodist Church. We are grateful to JUMC for combining together for a meaningful Lenten season with worship, study, and prayer. The service was co-officiated by Pastor Courtney and Pastor Joe Tiedemann. The choir, under the direction of Christine Tegeder, sang a very meaningful song and Christine and Sean sang an equally moving duet. The partaking of communion, hearing the readings of the passion of Christ, and the loud banging on the cross led us to the right mood to remember and observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Gratitude is extended to all who worked hard to help this service come together to honor God and the sacrifice Christ made for us.
Easter Worship and Easter Flowers
What a wonderful Easter Sunday we had! The weather on Sunday morning could not have been more beautiful as we rejoiced and celebrated the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our thanks is extended to the choir and guest musicians for their special music leadership as well as Christine Tegeder and all the worship leadership. We also offer up thanks to those who participat-ed in set-up, clean-up, and decorating the worship space. We also offer thanks to Sue Bross, the Church Ladies, and Danelle Horvath for organizing the flower sale that helped to make our worship space look so beautiful that day. Thanks to their efforts, $112 was raised for our church.
On May 6th, we will have a guest pastor while
Pastor Courtney is attending the Confirmation
Retreat. Regina Langley will preach on “Sharing
Bread,” based on John 6: 22-35.
Regina Langley is a publisher writer, poet, dancer,
lecturer, preacher, and teacher. She has done
extensive work in women’s issues, especially
focusing on African American women.
She is currently a doctoral student in Princeton
Theological Seminary’s Religion & Society
program. Her research interests addresses
religious, cultural, and racial identity politics and
how they impede and or mediate Black women's
ways of experiencing church and society.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from
American University in Washington, DC.; a Master
of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in
Princeton, NJ., where she concentrated in Feminist
and Womanist ideology; and a Master of Arts in
Women's Studies from the University of
Cincinnati. Having been in ministry for more than
twenty years, Rev. Langley is an ordained Itinerant
Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church,
and has served as pastor of St. James African
Methodist Episcopal Church in Manalpan, NJ.

Dare to go Deep with God!
Adult Class
“Living Life as a Christian in the 21st
Century” is taught by Pastor Courtney and
others. In this individualistic society where
everyone seems out for themselves, how will we
be a community together? In this time in history
when everyone spends and no one is disciplined
to save, what will our future be like? When our
young people are denied opportunity for arts &
culture in schools as well as creativity and
innovation, will we progress? This course takes
a look at Scripture passages, literature, and
other sources to use as a discussion for how can
Cornerstone be faithful in our expression as
Christians in the 21st century.
Sunday School for Kids!
Young Elementary (K-2nd grade)
Teachers: Allyson Moyer, Kellie Pushko
Older Elementary (3rd-5th grade)
Teacher: Patti Miller
The elementary children are learning from the
We Believe series called “Encountering
Jesus”. This study follows Jesus through the
Gospel of John, The Gospel of Matthew and
Acts.
Middle School
Teachers: Elizabeth Hughes,
Kristen DiGirolamo
The Middle School class is doing a Bible Survey
course, which involves an in-depth study of the
books of the Bible in the Old and New
Testament. This month we are finishing a series
called “The Final Week” with detailed lessons
about Jesus’ appearances following His
resurrection. We will then go back to our Old
Testament study of Genesis and the story of
Abraham to complete the year.
Nursery Care Available during Adult
Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. and during
Worship.
Babylon - VBS 2012 Cornerstone’s Vacation Bible School
will be during the mornings the week of July 23-27. Our theme will be: Babylon: Daniel's Courage in
Captivity.
Daniel was way more than the guy
who survived a den of hungry lions!
Travel back to Babylon and join Daniel--
torn from his home and forced into the
king's service. Imagine the pressure of
learning a new language and culture…
and the shock of discovering your best
friends have been tossed into a fiery
furnace. Explore exotic sights and
smells in a Babylonian marketplace!
Kids and adults will find that they're not
much different from Daniel and his
friends, who kept their faith in a
faithless culture.
The last day of Kid’s Sunday School for
this season will be May 27th. Children’s
Church will be available during worship
for young children starting June 3rd.

The Cornerstone Choir
The Cornerstone Choir, under the direction of Christine Tegeder, rehearses from September to May, and performs each week in worship. The choir sings a wide variety of anthems, ranging from traditional classics to current praise anthems. All of their music is done in a modern, contemporary style with a keyboard accompaniment, which often features guitars and horns.
The Choir rehearses at DeBows United Methodist Church (509 Monmouth Road) each Thursday evening, beginning at 7:00 pm. The members of the choir are an extremely dedicated group of individuals who enjoy singing songs to offer praise to God in worship.
The choir’s last day in worship before summer break is May 27th. Our thanks to the choir for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and especially throughout the season of Lent into Easter. We appreciate their efforts and the beautiful music helped us all to worship God in Christ and to appreciate the spirit and meaning of the season.
On June 3rd, we will say farewell to Music Minister, Christine Tegeder. We thank her for her dedication to God and our church. We will miss her!
Christine’s father-in-law Ernest Tegeder
was our guest trombonist on April 22nd. The children played the bells for “All Glory

VIP Water Walk
On Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28, Cornerstone joined with First Presbyterian Church
of Allentown to participate in the VIP Water Walk to raise money for creating irrigation systems for Malawi. Thank you to the 12 walkers on the Cornerstone Team, and to all who sponsored them with financial donations. Cornerstone raised over $2100 to support this mission project! Thanks also to Denise Mudalel for chairing this event for Cornerstone, and to Faron Trick for attending the meetings.
The event started with a spaghetti dinner followed by a ceremonial walk from the Allentown Church to the high school track. Then the Cornerstone team walked in 2-2.5 hour shifts for 24 hours until the closing ceremonies the next night at 7:00 PM. It was a cold night, but an amazing and moving experience for all!

Mission Trips to Malawi
Come. Listen. Watch. Learn. Serve.
You will go places you never dreamed, moved to depths of your spirit you did not fathom and transformed in ways you cannot imagine.
May 22-30 - Medical Mission - Students and Faculty from UVA School of Nursing sponsoring a medi-cal clinic at Kalupe Center in Sakata.
July 24- Aug. 1 - Friendship Trip - tailored to our participants, building the school, building the maize mill, digging wells, training pre-school teachers, soccer clinics.
August 3 -11 - Friendship Trip - tailored to our participants, building the school, building the maize mill, digging wells, training pre-school teachers, offering soccer clinics, any talents and gifts that peo-ple want to share, we will find a way to offer!
Villages in Partnership intentionally hosts small teams (6-8 participants) to offer intimacy and the op-portunity to tailor the experience in the villages around the interests of the trip participants . We design our time according to the gifts and skills of the team in conjunction with the needs of the villag-es. The cost of the ground fees for the trip are $1400. This includes all accommodations, conveyance to and from the airport, travel to the villages and project sites, work supplies for projects, all meals, wa-ter, guides and translators, trip coordinator fee, laundry needs, 1 night safari (including afternoon/night safari drive and morning boat ride), park entrance fees and a tithe to the projects of VIP.
The cost does not include airfare. Two sites to check for airfare are: www.flysaa.com,
www.asaptickets.com/cheap-tickets. Do not be alarmed if prices come in very high when we are still months away from the travel date. They lower as you get closer. Usually you can find tickets between $1800-2200, depending on the time of year. Another person to check with is Kathi at Tzell Travel, Pittsburgh. Her e-mail is [email protected] and her phone number is 800-466-7801 ext. 130. She often finds the cheapest tickets. Make sure to tell her you are going with VIP and you want her to look into missionary fare as well as their own fare.
Sometimes people want to extend their stay in Africa. Below is a site that offers wonderful tours to Lu-angwa Valley Reserve and then onto Victoria Falls.
www.jambo-africa.com.
Please visit VIP's web page for more information at villagesinpartnership.org., and call Liz Heinzel-Nelson with any questions. 609-468-6029.
