¯ MTA Departments successfully reach into these communities withprograms, actions, promotions and support in a range as varied asthe constituents served

CORNERSTONES OF THE MTA’SCOMMUNITY OUTREACH

When coordinated, outreachactivities can be forged intocampaigns to penetrate andenlighten a wide range ofconstituents on importanttransportation messages,e.g .promotions for new busand rail service, servicechanges, legislative agendas,long range planning andemployment opportunities

CURRENT TASK FORCEACTIONS

¯ Adopted a reporting format to exhibit (on a bi-monthly basis) the MTA Board the full extent of the Authority’s communityoutreach activities by logging the sponsoring departments andtheir respective events

¯ Survey of twenty major transit properties and the scope of theircommunity outreach programs

¯ Formation of an Education Subcommittee with fiscal year 2001goals

EDUCATION SUBCOMMITTEFISCAL YR 2001 GOALS

¯ Initiate a Pilot Program at select school sites to educatestudents on the mission of the MTA, tour the facilities andservices and present instruction on appropriate decorum inpublic meetings

¯ Curtail Graffiti and Vandalism on MTA Buses through StudentInvolvement

¯ Initiate a "Bus Ownership" Program through dedicated trippersto selected school sites; students will have the opportunity todesign, decorate and maintain buses with pride
