Background to Cornwall Council’s new role

• Summer 2007 floods• 55000 properties flooded

across England• High proportion of surface

water flooding

•Pitt Review recommended “local authorities lead the co-ordination of flood risk in their area”

• Cornwall Council are now the Lead Local Flood Authority

• Lead for flood risk from surface run-off, groundwater & Ordinary Watercourses

New Role: Local flood investigation

New role : To maintain a flood risk management asset register
