Kindergarten: We hope that you enjoyed your holiday break. We are very proud of the progress that the stu- dents are making in their reading skills. They are proud of themselves too. Parents, please practice at home with your child it pro- vides your child with extra confidence that he/she needs to succeed in the classroom. Sound out simple words and practice writing them in sen- tences too. In Math, we have started learning addition. Please practice this skill with your child. Our theme for January is winter. The stu- dents will be learning and completing projects about weather and the seasons. Thank you for your support. First grade: Happy New Year 2019!! First Grade is launching the year with a lot of new learning goals. First, in Grammar we will studying contractions and adjectives, creating flip books and an- chor charts. Next, the stu- dents will be doing opinion writings, using graphic organ- izers, with 3-5 reasons in- cluding a conclusion sen- tence. Then, in Science they will be learning about the weather, and the water cycle. In Math they will be learning about measurement, and using addition facts to solve subtraction problems. First Grade will also be selling chocolates this month, for our annual school fundraiser. Second grade: Welcome back! We hope you and your family had a wonderful Winter Break! As we begin a new year, we also begin 3 rd quarter. Our sec- ond graders will be learning about subtraction with and with- out regrouping and mon- ey. Please help us by working with your child to fully master these important concepts. In Language Arts, we will focus on neighborhoods and communi- ties. Chinatown will be one of the places students will be learning about. Thank you for your continued support. Third grade: Welcome back third graders! We hope you had a pleasant and restful holiday. As we begin our third quarter, we would like you to know that the second semester is a very busy time for us! We have a lot to learn in preparation for our state test coming up in March- April and would like to take this time to remind parents and stu- dents of the importance of at- tendance. We will be covering a lot of information in the up- coming months so please make sure your child is at school eve- ry day. In math we will continue with division, but will be moving on to fractions and geometry very soon. Read EVERY night to work on fluency and compre- hension! Fourth grade is just around the corner so let's work extra hard to get there, ready and prepared for the challenges that await us! matemáticas, hemos empezado a

aprender a sumar. Por favor, practique

esta habilidad con su hijo/a. Nuestro

tema para enero es el invierno. Los

estudiantes aprenderán y completarán

proyectos sobre el clima y las estacio-

Primer grado: Feliz año nuevo 2019!! Primer grado comienza el año con mu-chos nuevos objetivos de aprendizaje. Primero, en Gramática estudiaremos las contracciones y los adjetivos, creando libros de notas y gráficas. A continuación, los estudiantes realizarán escrituras de opinión, utilizando organi-zadores gráficos, con 3 a 5 razones, incluyendo una oración final. Luego, en Ciencias aprenderán sobre el clima y el ciclo del agua. En Matemáticas apren-derán acerca de las medidas y usarán sumas para resolver problemas de resta. El primer grado también venderá chocolates este mes, para nuestra recaudación de fondos anual de la escuela. Muchas Gracias!

Segundo grado: ¡Esperamos que us-ted y su familia hayan tenido unas ma-ravillosas vacaciones de invierno! Al comenzar un nuevo año, también co-menzamos el tercer trimestre. Nuestros alumnos de segundo grado aprenderán sobre la resta con y sin reagrupación y dinero. Por favor ayúdenos trabajando con su hijo para dominar completa-mente estos conceptos importantes. En Artes del Lenguaje, nos centrare-mos en los barrios y comunidades. Chinatown será uno de los lugares es un lugar del que los estudiantes apren-derán. Gracias por su continuo apoyo.

Tercer grado: Esperamos que haya teni-do unas vacaciones agradables y relaja-das. Al comenzar nuestro tercer trimes-tre, nos gustaría que sepan que el se-gundo semestre es un momento muy ocupado para nosotros. Tenemos mucho que aprender en preparación para nues-tro examen estatal que se realizará fina-les de marzo, principio de abril, y nos gustaría aprovechar este momento para recordar a los padres y estudiantes la importancia de la asistencia. Estaremos cubriendo mucha información en los pró-ximos meses, así que asegúrese de que su hijo esté en la escuela todos los días. En matemáticas continuaremos con la división, pero pronto pasaremos a las fracciones y la geometría. ¡Lea todas noches con su hijo/a para trabajar en fluidez y comprensión! ¡El cuarto grado está a la vuelta de la esquina, así que trabajemos duro para llegar allí, listos y preparados para los desafíos que nos esperan!

Cuarto grado: Cuando los estudiantes regresen de su descanso el 7 de enero del 2019, continuaremos avanzando en nuestra búsqueda de excelencia. Los estudiantes de cuarto grado aplicarán habilidades de lectura apropiadas para el grado para citar con precisión un texto y se referirán a detalles y ejemplos clave al explicar explícitamente lo que dice el texto, también extraerán inferencias com-plejas del texto. Estudiantes; están ha-ciendo un gran trabajo, continúen traba-jando duro hacia sus metas académicas. Padres, gracias por todo su apoyo este año, continuemos trabajando como un equipo para el éxito de cada uno de los estudiantes aquí en Coronado. Feliz año nuevo!!! Quinto grado: Esperamos que sus vacaciones hayan sido placenteras y tranquilas. ¡El segun-do semestre es un tiempo ocupado para nosotros! Tenemos mucho que aprender en preparación para nuestra prueba es-tatal que se realizará este abril. Nos gus-taría aprovechar este tiempo para recor-darles a los padres y estudiantes la im-portancia de la asistencia durante este semestre debido a todas las cosas nue-vas que aprenderemos y la repasaremos estos meses. Además, acompáñenos en nuestra junta de padres el 17 de enero para obtener información importante so-bre AZMerit, excursiones, transición de quinto grado, entre otras cosas. Queridos padres,

Por qué es importante la lectura?

La lectura es importante porque desarrolla

la mente. La mente es un músculo. Nece-

sita ejercicio. Comprender la palabra es-

crita es una de las formas en que la men-

te crece en su capacidad. La lectura ayu-

da a los niños pequeños a desarrollar sus

habilidades lingüísticas. También les ayu-

da a aprender a escuchar. Todos quieren

hablar, pero pocos realmente pueden

escuchar. La falta de habilidades para

escuchar puede resultar en grandes ma-

lentendidos que pueden llevar a grandes

y pequeños desastres. La lectura ayuda a

los niños [y adultos] a enfocarse en lo que

otra persona se está comunicando.
