Learning at school continuesCorowa Public School continues to remain open for students who cannot stay at home. We are being careful to keep our distance from each other and wash hands frequently. It's certainly strange to have so few students on-site, but we are excited to see some more faces next week with the beginning of the Phase 1 return to school.

We have missed you!Although we are still encouraging students to learn at home before Phase 1 of the return to school begins next week, it has been fantastic to see a few extra students at school – we have certainly missed you all.

Phase 1 return to schoolAs some of the COVID-19 restrictions ease across NSW, we are gearing up for the Phase 1 return to school on Monday 11 May. From Monday, students will return to school one day per week for face-to-face learning.

By now you should have received a letter informing you of which day your children are scheduled to attend school (unless you have had a conversation with myself or another staff member around your personal circumstances). Phase 1 will be in place until we advise otherwise.

What will Phase 1 look like?During Phase 1 at school teachers will be assisting students to access the learning drive, comprehend the learning required and setting the expectations for their learning. While not at school, students should continue with their home learning. It is important for students to continue to log into their class platform and communicate with teachers regarding progress and any difficulties. We will use this as a guide to measure student engagement in learning.

Some home learning will be on paper (learning packs) and others will be accessed via Google Classroom. Your child’s teacher should have contacted you to discuss your preference. Other than our Platypus class, our K-2 students are not using Google Classroom at this time.

Accessing supportWe recognise that there have been challenges and that this will continue in the near future, but our community is doing a fantastic job of supporting each other and working through this difficult time. We encourage families to call the school if any issues arise during this transitional period. Support is available and we are happy work with you to ensure that student needs are catered for. Support from attendance officers is also available to ensure students are engaging with their learning.

Canteen is not openPlease be reminded that the school canteen is not currently operational, meaning that students will need to bring food for lunch and recess and a drink bottle when attending school. When the canteen is open again, we encourage you to support this fantastic resource as often as possible. The canteen provides many benefits for the P&C committee, the school and our students and we do not wish to lose this precious service.

Finally, I would like to wish all the mothers a Happy Mothers Day!Although this year’s celebrations will differ from previous years, please know that the love, care and support that you provide is valued now more than ever.

We are all influenced by a strong female presence, whether it be a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt or carer and I hope that we all find a way to thank these women, both this weekend and in other ways throughout our lives. I am certainly grateful for the way my mother has shaped, supported and guided me as I make my way through life.

Thank you cleaning staff! While all of our staff have been working hard during the COVID-19 pandemic, the efforts of our cleaning staff are sometimes overlooked.

The cleaning staff have been working tirelessly to ensure that all areas our school are sanitised and ready for students to return. We truly appreciate their hard work, so thank you for your time, effort and for working during the school holidays to ensure the health and safety of our students.

Zooming into virtual social interactionOur staff and students haven't been able to see each other physically for almost six weeks, but are still keeping in contact via online learning platforms and Zoom meetings. Zoom meetings are providing a space for students and

staff to share learning and continue their sense of belonging to each other and our school.

Delila's creativity in STEMCheck out the wonderful dioramas that Delila has made for her STEM classes at home.

Her first masterpiece represents an ocean biome, while the second represents the Arctic tundra.

It is fantastic to see students using their home learning time so constructively!

TIPS FOR RETURNING TO SCHOOLHere are some hot tips to make sure students are ready for school in Term 2:

• Students are not allowed to use bubblers at school, so remember to pack a drink bottle.

• Don't forget to pack food for lunch and recess.

• Social distancing measures are still in place. Students need to remain 1.5 metres from each other while at school and remember to wash hands frequently.

• Parents are carers are asked not to enter the school site unless absolutely necessary (e.g. Emergency situation)

• If parents need to collect students during school time, please wait outside the fence at the front of the school, call the office and wait for a staff member to escort your child to you.

• School buses are still running, so please send your child to school as you normally would.

• If your family has borrowed a device (laptop, ipad, etc), please send it to school with your child to ensure that we have enough technology on-site.

• On the days that students are not at school, they should continue their remote education at home via Dojo, Google Classroom or Seesaw.

• Try not to stress - You're doing a great job!

THE SCHOOL CANTEEN IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICEPlease be aware that our school canteen will remain closed until further notice. We understand that this may

cause inconvenience for some families and we thank you for understanding that due to Covid-19 it is not logistically possible for the canteen to open at this time.

We will inform families as soon as possible when canteen opens again.

In the meantime, you can find some fantastic healthy lunch box ideas, tips and recipes at healthylunchbox.com.au

NEWS FROM THE SCHOOL LIBRARYBook BorrowingAs the weather turns cold and we are isolating at home it’s a great time to be snuggling up with a good book. The CPS library is always here to help you find a ‘good fit’ book.

You can borrow any day you come to school by following these simple steps:

1. Leave your books inside your library bag and place them in the big blue box outside the library before the bell to line up.

2. Meet Mrs Brewster outside the library straight after eating time, tell her what you would like to borrow and she will pop them into your library bag for you.

If you are not returning to school just yet, you can still borrow remotely. This will now happen on Friday (NOT Monday and Wednesday). Pop your books in the tub at the front of the school before 9.30am. Collect your library bag at 3pm. It will be hanging on the school fence.

Please be assured that we are following all recommended procedures to keep our books clean and available to share.

Premier’s Reading ChallengeKeep reading and keep adding the books you finish to your Student Reading Record.

You can do this in three ways:
