    The name Aesculap comes from Asclepius, the Greek God of medicine, who is often

    depicted with his serpent entwined staff. Aesculap began as a manufacturer of classical

    surgical instruments in Tuttlingen, Germany in 1867. Founded by Gottfried Jetter, the

    Aesculap manufacturing plant quickly grew, and by 1900, a new factory was built to

    hold 600 employees. The city of Tuttlingen is now the cradle of surgical instrument

    manufacturing for the world.

    Aesculap continues to grow and expand its production capabilities. In 2001, the

    Benchmark Factory, one of the most modern implant factories in Europe, opened and

    houses 200 production machines covering over 120,000 square feet of space.

    B. Braun/Aesculap operates in 50 countries around the world. Today, Aesculaps U.S.

    headquarters is located in Center Valley, PA with a distribution center located in

    Hazelwood, MO and R&D facilities in Breinigsville, PA.

    Today Aesculap employs more than 580 people in the U.S.

    Annual sales of the Aesculap U.S. division exceed 210 million dollars.

    In 2007, Aesculap established a Spine R&D center in the United States in order to meet

    the needs of this diverse and large market. Aesculap has also grown to become one of

    the largest orthopedic implant companies in the world and is the pioneer in CT-free

    navigation. Aesculap will continue to invest in new technologies and products that allow

    surgeons to achieve superior clinical results and improve the lives of their patients.

    With the introduction of the industrys first dynamic cervical plate (ABC) in 1999,

    Aesculap established itself as one of the most innovative spinal implant companies in

    the world. Aesculap added the lowest profile posterior lumbar system (S4) in 2004 and

    continued to expand its product line with the addition of a complete line of interbody

    spacers, trauma products to treat spinal fractures, posterior cervical products and

    innovative instrumentation to correct vertebral body instability.

    currently undergoing a clinical trial in the U.S. It is one of the first studies to compare
