Throughout the history of Alps Electric since its founding

period, we have diligently pursued our own unique style

of monozukuri (encompassing all aspects of product

creation) based on a stance of devotion to electronic

components.

In that time, spanning almost 70 years, we have built

up a stock of original technologies that represent our

foundations for monozukuri, its essence summed up in

the phrase, “perfecting the art of electronics,” which is

our business domain.

The “art of electronics” refers to products manifesting

an excellent balance between the traits right, unique and

green—besides a refined appearance, products must

perform the desired function with outstanding quality and

with minimal impact on the environment. We are single-

mindedly committed to pursuing these characteristics.

Today, our lifestyles and industry are played out

in a data-driven society where big data gathered

through sophisticated networks is analyzed by artificial

intelligence (AI) and reflected in the real world. A brand

new environment—the smart society—is beginning to

take shape. Caught in the intense swell generated by

such technological innovation, Alps Electric is advancing

activities under its 8th Mid-Term Business Plan covering

the three years from fiscal 2016. As well as broadening

the range of markets we serve—from conventional

home appliances to smartphones and other mobile

devices, automobiles and now the EHII sectors (energy,

healthcare, industry and IoT)—we are constantly working

to further enrich and fuse core technologies for these

markets, pursuing a style of monozukuri for the next

generation based on fresh ideas.

Alps Electric will keep striving to create new value that

brings comfort to and enriches the lives of people all

over the world while caring for the environment.

Mobile

Alps Electric has been implementing its 8th Mid-Term Business Plan since 2016 with a goal to become a company that

can achieve sustained growth, which is one that keeps generating new pillars of profit by carving out businesses in

future growth markets with new products created from core technologies.

Aiming to become a company that can achieve sustained growth, we are advancing devel-opment of unique products

with high added value, positioning the automotive, mobile and EHII (energy, healthcare, industry and IoT*) sectors—the

latter possessing future growth poten-tial—as our three priority markets.

Demand for vehicles that deliver safety, peace of mind, comfort and

environmental perfor-mance is mounting and automakers are not the only ones

engaged in technological devel-opment to enable advanced driver assistance

systems (ADAS) and partial implementation of autonomous driving. Alps Electric

carries out broad development to bolster its lineup of sensors employed in

engines and chassis and wireless communication devices for ADAS, and to pro-

vide electronic shifters and other modules controlled by people inside the vehicle

cabin. We also actively pursue alliances with other companies.

The smartphone market is expected to keep growing due to continued expansion

of sales volume in emerging nations and models offering faster speeds and larger

capacity. Alps Electric endeavors to respond swiftly to customer requirements

and to develop and produce a broad range of products for the market, including

autofocus actuators, switches, sensors, connectors and touch panels. As we also

look to expand the domain to encompass the entire mobile market, we will readily

introduce new technologies, such as HAPTIC™ devices based on force feedback

and high-performance sensors.

In targeting the EHII market, which has broad and varied business formats, Alps

Electric is taking steps to establish a business platform, for example through

independent product de-velopment and partnerships with other companies. In the

growing IoT*, or M2M*, sector, Alps Electric has led the way with the introduction

of a Sensor Network Module. Employed as a development tool, the module

contributes to the creation of new frameworks and services. To the environmental

market, we have deployed home energy storage systems and an original material,

Liqualloy™, and efforts are underway to expand future business.

— Believe in people —

It is people who give birth to business and who nurture technology. For

that reason, we nurture people and employ them well. To us, believing in

people is a universal corporate philosophy and our culture of valuing human

resources and letting them excel flows ceaselessly through us in maxims

such as these: “Businesses easily founder. But…people must walk upright.

Possess strengths,” and, “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”

— Three Hards —

The Three Hards are another element of Alps culture. “Work Hard: Sincerity” is our ap-

proaching everything with sincerity and in earnest at all times; “Study Hard: Challenge”

is our insatiable desire to keep trying new things based on what we learn; and “Play

Hard: Solidarity” expresses the energy generated through teamwork and togetherness

of which we can be proud. The Three Hards reside within us, as strength, sustaining

us in our pursuits.

Enrichment and fusion of core technologieswith a focus on three core markets

Energy, Healthcare,Industry and IoT (EHII)
