History 1903 Foundation of the “Eisenberger Klebsandwerke” under the leadership of Albert

Wilkes

1910 Completion of the new administration building in the Bahnhofstraße

In the first decade after its foundation the EKW increased the production quantity

from 101,000 (in 1904) to 185,000 tons in 1913

The First World War and the global economic crisis in 1931 weakened the company.

After the Second World War 1945 almost the entire infrastructure of the EKW was

destroyed.

In its 50th anniversary year 1953 the turnover rises to more than 2 Mio DM. EKW

established in whole Western Europe and overseas e.g. Egypt, Mexico and

Argentina.

In the 1970’s, large investments were made. The commissioning of a central mixing

unit at the highest technical level points the way to an advanced manufacturing site.

Automatization processes optimized the production.

Furthermore, an in-house department for research and development was founded.

History Between 1980 and 1986 5,5 million D-mark were invested to keep the production up to date.

In the years 1987 to 1993 additional investments were made. EKW invested around 4,7 Million DM for

modernization, during this period.

In 1993, the company was certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.

1998 retirement RHI/Didier, expansion to new markets (functional as well as geographical)

Up to 2001 EKW invested another 4,5 Million DM. Highlight was the installation of a mixing control

system, with which the processes can be monitored and controlled.

2003 EKW celebrated its 100th anniversary.

EKW‘s answer to the increasing demand of a

„Full-Service-Technology“ is a tailor-made

solution to each individual customer.

For outstanding performance, the EKW GmbH

won the business award for innovation in

commodity economy of Rhineland-Palatinate in

the years 2008, 2010 and 2012.

2013 EKW celebrated its 110th anniversary.

Eisenberger lutting sand

Lutting sand is a bondeable, clay-mineral containing, refractory silicia sand.

The feature of this “raw material” is the high quality with its remarkable mineral and chemical stability.

The deposits capacity after prospection is around 150 Mt. and offers EKW and its customers a long-

term independence to the international commodity market.

Characteristic of the Eisenberger lutting sand

• it is a kaolinized silica sand

• originated about 30 million years ago

• mineralogical characterized in 80% silica and

20% clay mineral

• without any treatments refractory up to 1700 degrees

• supports a wide range of applications in the foundry

industries, as well as iron- and steel plants

Research & Development The analysis of this unique and mysterious commodity is an important part of the EKW.

The specification down to its smallest components, and the exploration of new reactions form the basis for continuous quality

improvement and new developments.

An innovative R&D-Department guarantees:

• that the products are always up-to-date

• that our materials have the highest standards

• successful implementation of new product lines in the future

• the introduction of new functional ceramics using non-polluting production technologies and installation trends

With our modern and advanced refractory technology and procedural solutions, we support, accompany and optimize the thermal process and

production conditions, namely constant, eco-friendly and energy efficient.

For this outstanding performance, the EKW GmbH won the business award for innovation in commodity economy of Rhineland-

Palatinate in the years 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Hot metal production

EKW offers solutions to optimize

the processes within the blast

furnace.

We offer various monolithic products requiring

different installation methods (casting, gunning).

These increase running times and reduce specific

costs of torpedo and transport ladles.

Aluminium

Whether refiner or remelter - We see ourselves as partners

in all facets of the secondary aluminum production.

A special attention is given to energetic factors of the entire

process chain from the melting over the material logistics

such as liquid aluminum carrying through to the casting

process.

For example we have insulating and wear resistant

material solutions for energy-intensive production

processes, where specific combinations of properties will

cause minimal energy losses. The use of our finished

parts or functional components grants our customers

maximum availability of their machinery.
