1CSR Annual Report
This last year at Guidehouse has been about creation: launching a start-up and creating a top global consulting firm; creating a brand that employees are proud to work for; and creating a culture that centers around the Guidehouse values: respect, integrity, innovation, stewardship, and excellence.
Our teams this year took this to heart and created new ways of thinking about how we deliver and how we engage with the communities we work in. They are living our mission “to solve big problems and build trust in society.” We are proud of the results, and just as proud of our journey.
Executive Message
Staff-led initiatives served 41 organizations across eight different regions of the country through our organized events. In total, 700 of our professionals participated in at least one community service event over the past year. Our professionals engaged in volunteering in the community at twice the national average. We are passionate about service and have leaned forward to make impact in communities across the country, while providing more than 20,000 hours of service to support organizations.
Guidehouse professionals served their communities in ways that extend beyond measurable hours. Guidehouse professionals joined, served on and led non-profit boards. We engaged in pro-bono consulting, and built a Corporate Social Responsibility program from scratch. Our professionals developed our policy commitment to environmental sustainability and developed our strategy to support our communities tackling local challenges (e.g., tackling food insecurity in Prince William County, VA, restoring the Anacostia River in Washington DC, etc.) through our Green Ambassador Teams. Guidehouse and our professionals gave to non-profit organizations to support programming that is improving the lives of people in our communities.
But this year was just the beginning. In the year ahead, working through our CSR pillars of volunteering, pro-bono consulting, board service, environmental sustainability and giving, we will continue to co-create with our people opportunities to make an even greater impact locally, nationally and globally. We will work to engage our professionals in purposeful work, benefit our communities, and align with our mission to solve important problems. We want all of our professionals to have an opportunity to bring to Guidehouse their passions for service.
We look forward to continuing to develop our corporate social responsibility program, partnering with fantastic organizations in the communities we work in, and further build a brand that has service at its core.
I want to thank everyone who has helped get us where we are today, and those who will help us get where we are going tomorrow.
Sincerest thanks,
Scott McIntyre Chief Executive Officer

Brigid ScarboroughSenior Associate, Atlanta, GA
In 2018, I joined the firm and joined the People & Connectivity (P&C) group. The P&C Centers for
Disease Control team coordinated volunteer opportunities to support two local organizations, Open Hand and Mercy Care. During these activities, we prepared nearly 1,500 meals for individuals unable to prepare their own food and created over 1,000 sanitary kits for the Atlanta homeless community. The event lead shared, ‘There is absolutely no way that Open Hand would be able to prepare, package and deliver meals each day without the help of teams like yours who take time out of their day to serve.’
Rumbi Mufuka Senior Associate, Washington, D.C.
For two years, I have been a volunteer for Compass Pro Bono, a non-profit that provides free consulting
services to non-profits in the region. In June 2019, I joined the board of Art Enables through the Compass Board Member program. The flexible work environment at Guidehouse gave me confidence that I could take on the responsibilities of being a new board member for a local non-profit. Knowing that Guidehouse values my contributions and encourages me to bring back what I have learned to the firm makes the experience that much more rewarding.”

Scott SkipleSenior Associate, Dayton, OH
I have been actively involved in youth programs for years. I am a Scoutmaster for a Dayton, Ohio
Scouting BSA Troop, and I have also been a mentor at a public school STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program. Both involve a lot of hours, but have also been very fulfilling personally. Guidehouse has been nothing but fully supportive, affording me a flexible work schedule when needed. I’ve also been able to help out when our local Guidehouse office organized events to pitch in, be it for tornado cleanup or helping provide meals to people in need. I am proud to work for a company that so actively promotes the idea of giving back.”
Jenna McMakinSenior Associate, Baltimore, MD
As President and Founder of Pearls for Pups Co., I am striving to increase our impact in 2019. Pearls
for Pups Co. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded by my mom, sister and me in 2017. We hand-make and sell pearl earrings, named after dog breeds, online at pearlsforpupsco.org and donate 100% of the net proceeds to dog rescues and shelters. Since our founding, we have donated over $70,000 and we are making a name for ourselves in the dog rescue community!
The Guidehouse team was kind enough to host a volunteer day, and a group of ten Guidehouse employees spent an afternoon making Pearls for Pups Co. earrings, stamping shipping boxes and putting earrings on cards. This was hugely valuable to help us stock up for a fundraising event, and I felt a real sense of community while volunteering with my coworkers! We are so excited for the future and to continue to help save dogs!”

Dog Tag Bakery
Dog Tag Inc. empowers transitioning veterans with service-connected disabilities, military spouses and caregivers to discover personal and professional fulfillment through an innovative five-month business and entrepreneurship-focused fellowship program. Our fellowship includes earning a Certificate in Business Administration from Georgetown University, as well as experiential learning through rotations within our small business, Dog Tag Bakery. We also bring in a plethora of guest speakers (entrepreneurs, executives, veterans, etc.) and integrate wellness and self-care components. At the end of our program, each of our fellows presents a business plan to a panel of local experts.
Last fall, Guidehouse donated the time of employees who worked in small groups with our fellows on practicing their capstone pitches. This allowed our fellows to test run their public speaking skills, get valuable feedback on
their business plan presentations, and ask questions of professionals established in the consulting industry. This past spring, Dog Tag Inc. was able to bring our fellows to a Digital Bootcamp workshop at Guidehouse, which taught them tangible skills related to digital presence, social media and branding. Our fellows enjoyed this interactive session off-campus, as they learned from experts and tackled the questions and challenges they were thinking about as related to their business plans. Dog Tag Inc. appreciates the support of our many community partners like Guidehouse, because they add more experiential learning to our curriculum, enable our fellows to build professional connections and highlight potential career paths that might interest our fellows. These opportunities prove to be an invaluable, integral aspect of the Dog Tag Inc. Fellowship Program.
7CSR Annual Report
American Red Cross
Guidehouse has been an outstanding partner for the American Red Cross, bringing leadership, insight and a commitment from its employees to help the Red Cross meet our mission across the country. The Red Cross is best known for its disaster relief work and its blood collection, but the other lines of Red Cross service includes Service to the Armed Forces, International Services, and Health and Safety Training.
Guidehouse has made its relationship to the Red Cross a priority of its corporate social responsibility program, and the Red Cross has greatly benefited from Guidehouse’s “all-in” approach to this partnership. Guidehouse’s singular commitment to a non-profit - providing time, talent,
problem-solving and financial support - is not a typical approach by most corporations, but this sort of deep dive has allowed Guidehouse to see the Red Cross in a unique light, allowing them to provide additional insights on how both organizations can work better together.
Guidehouse’s support includes leadership from one of their sector partners who serves on the board; volunteers who installed free smoke alarms in Ward 7 through our Free Home Fire Campaign; volunteers who helped develop post-hurricane Maria response plans, hosting a microsite for staff to give to disaster relief efforts.

Whitman-Walker Health
Since 1973, Whitman-Walker Health has offered stigma-free community-based health and wellness services to all, with a special expertise in LGBTQ and HIV care. In addition to medical and community care, transgender care, behavioral health care, two pharmacies and dental care, Whitman-Walker provides wrap-around and supportive services including legal services, insurance navigation services and youth and family support, to name a few. All Whitman-Walker services are provided at little to no cost through the use of private and public insurance coverage, as well as a generous sliding fee scale.
From the founding of the Gay Men’s VD Clinic in 1973, to the AIDS buddy programs of the 80’s and 90’s and the peer support services of today, volunteers have been
integral in the formation and execution of Whitman-Walker’s programs. Even as the organization has grown and increased staff, volunteers still play an important role in carrying out the work and mission of Whitman-Walker’s health centers. Guidehouse’s participation in the monthly STI self-testing kit building events directly benefits Whitman-Walker’s free, walk-in testing services. Guidehouse’s fundraising and participation in the annual Walk & 5K to End HIV ensures Whitman-Walker continues to be a place where the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer communities – as well as those living with or affected by HIV – feel supported, welcomed and respected. Your generosity helps Whitman-Walker to fight stigma and save lives every day.

Environmental Sustainability Pledge
Guided by our core values, Guidehouse is committed to creating work spaces that inspire and reduce our environmental footprint; investing in our communities by tackling local challenges; and developing innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients.
At Guidehouse, we are committed to environmental stewardship because we see it as critical to the long-term success and sustainability of our business and our clients’ businesses. We also view environmental stewardship as critical to our communities and to those who work within them, including our partners and staff. While we do not manufacture goods, we do provide a broad variety of services that have wide-ranging impacts. As a professional services firm, our key environmental impacts on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is significantly associated with our real estate and local commuting by our people.
Our environmental strategy has a variety of approaches, including continuing to improve the efficiency of our offices (e.g., space design, procurement and operations), promoting the use of mass transit and carpooling, fostering the enthusiasm of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Council to identify volunteer, pro-bono and community partnerships to encourage sustainability in our local communities. Guidehouse is proud to have supported a number of high profile sustainability projects for our clients at the federal, state and local level. From green buildings to smart city planning, we have a strong knowledge base and passion for sustainability solutions.
In the next year, Guidehouse will publish its first environmental impact report to drive toward greater transparency and more ambitious commitments across our operations.
