Established in 1871, the Australian Hotels

Association (SA) is the peak body for the South

Australian Hotel Industry. The AHA|SA is a

member of the National AHA Federation. The

AHA|SA boasts very high levels of Membership

with in excess of 500 (80%) of the states 618

hotels as Members, ranging from small venues

to large international hotels.

The AHA|SA enjoys one of the highest profiles

of any professional body in South Australia,

and is nationally regarded for our political and

industrial lobbying.

SA HOTEL INDUSTRY PROFILE Employment: in excess of 30,000Payroll: over 500 million Jobs created since gaming: approximately 5200 Capital and commercial value: in excess of $5 billion Annual support to charities, sport/community groups: $ 16 million Annual live band performances: 25,000 Retail sales from the public: over $2 billion.

HUMAN RESOURCES & INDUSTRIAL RELATIONSThe AHA|SA HR/IR Team can provide Members with up to date industry specific information and representation on all employment and workplace relations matters including, but not limited to:• legislative obligations of employment such as award

coverage and interpretation, work health and safety, workers compensation, human rights and equal opportunity

• pay rates, salaries and employment classifications• contracts of employment and other record keeping

requirements ie time and wage records annual leave, personal/carers leave and long service leave

• advice on the principles of procedural fairness relating to performance management, disciplinary action or termination of employees

• policy and procedure templates whether general HR or work health and safety related

• staff training requirements as well as training and development opportunities;

• superannuation obligations

As well as the above, the HR/IR Team are qualified to assist in all aspects of national or state based workplace related legislation and are able to represent Members in any employment related matters. Such matters may include an employee claim for unfair dismissal, adverse action, underpayment of wages and workers compensation.

The AHA|SA’s objectives are to protect and promote the rights and interests of licensed industry businesses, and to maintain and promote high standards of service. These objectives are achieved through the provision of a comprehensive array of services to Members, including:

BUSINESS ADVICE, INFORMATION AND ADVOCACY Setting up superannuation schemes and assistance with licensing disputes and applications are examples of the types of services available to AHA|SA Members. The AHA|SA Business Services Manager is dedicated to ensuring the best rates are available to Members across banking, energy and from other hotel suppliers.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS & COMMUNITY SUPPORT It’s no secret that the Hotel Industry is one of South Australia’s most philanthropic industries. Each year hotels donate millions of dollars to local community and sporting groups. In addition, the AHA|SA administers the Hotel Care Community Projects which, through the Independent Gaming Corporation, donates to a wide variety of charity and community groups.

INDUSTRY VOICE TO GOVERNMENT The AHA|SA is one of the States most prominent employer lobby groups, maintaining close working relationships with Members of Parliament and government departments. The AHA|SA is a strong advocate for the industry, speaking on behalf of Members on the many important issues affecting hotels. The Association’s long-term objective is to ensure a viable hotel industry in South Australia by establishing stability, certainty and quality leadership.

GAMING SERVICESSince the introduction of gaming, there has been a rapid expansion of facilities and services available in hotels, increasing the opportunities for suppliers and the availability of career options for hotel employees. The quality of SA hotels and the services they offer are without peer in Australia. The AHA|SA provides comprehensive advice on gaming issues and is proud to have established the Hotels Responsible Gambling Early Intervention Agency, otherwise known as ‘Gaming Care’. Venues that have an agreement with Gaming Care receive the benefit of exemptions from various codes of practice requirement. Nearly all hotels with gaming machines have an agreement with Gaming Care.

TOURISM ACCOMMODATION AUSTRALIA (SA)The TAA (SA) is a vibrant division of the AHA|SA, which is specifically for member hotels whose primary form of business is the provision of accommodation. Many of the

biggest and best-known hotel chains are Members of the TAA (SA). The TAA holds regular meetings and events, and is vital in promoting the role of hotels within the tourism industry.
