Week 10, Term 3, 2017 20th September, 2017

HOLIDAYS I hope the children (and their parents) get the chance to rest and recover after a very busy Term 3. There have been excellent learning gains this term and lots of exciting things happening with celebrating 100 days of Kindergarten, excursions, Book Week celebrations, Grandparents Day, Athletics Carnival, Night of the Notables, the Dinner Dance, Father’s Day Breakfast and First Eucharist. Please try to ensure that the children get the chance to rest up and recuperate over the break. We have had a steady stream of unwell children and their families. A few quiet days might help to break that tedious cycle of re-infection that many families have suffered. Term 4 is always busy and it also flies!! We look forward to welcoming the children back to school happy, healthy and ready to learn!

FIRST EUCHARIST Many children in Stage 2 received Eucharist for the first time over the last two weekends. We ask you to keep these children and their families in your prayers at this special time. The Year 3 teachers, Mrs Elliott and Miss Ryan prepared a beautiful liturgy to mark this special event in the sacred journey of our students. The children then shared a special First Eucharist cake organised by the teachers to celebrate!

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY The last day of Term 3 for students is tomorrow, Thursday 21st September. There is a Staff Development Day on Friday 22nd September. This professional learning day for teachers will be off-site and there will not be anyone at school. School resumes for all students on Monday 9th October in summer uniform.

SCHOOL PHOTOS – this week

How extraordinarily generous God is.

What we see in ourselves and others is only a

glimpse of what God is like.

Many thanks to parents for sending in the children looking smart and well-groomed for school photo day. Class, individual and whole photos were taken today as well as Public Speaking finalists, school leaders, choir and band. Tomorrow the children who are age champions, colour house captains or who have represented the school at Cluster or Diocesan level will be photographed. All students are to wear their sports uniform tomorrow. WALKING THE WAY We have arranged for a member of the CSO RE team to facilitate a special morning for parents based on the resource ‘Walking the Way’ in Week 2 on Wednesday 18th October at 9.15am in the AP Room. If sufficient numbers participate, childcare for pre-schoolers will be arranged. I have heard some excellent reports of the morning from parents who attended at other schools saying it was a really wonderfully, worthwhile experience. This is a morning designed to help you to stop, catch your breath, reflect a while and generally capture some much needed ‘me’ time. One of the most important aspects to parenting at whatever ages your children are – is remembering to set aside time to rebuild and renew. We are none of us, bottomless pits of energy. The coming months become very busy, so maybe consider participating in this event as a chance to indulge yourself in some stillness, calm and gentleness. See poster attached for further details.

Qkr! COMING SOON! Corpus Christi Catholic School is introducing a new mobile phone application and online service called Qkr! (pronounced Quicker). This will replace the School24 payment platform from Week 5 in Term 4. Qkr! is an application which parents can use to order and pay for most school related expenses including canteen orders, school fees and P&F special events by using their Smartphone, tablet or computer. The Qkr! plat-form integrates with the school’s accounting system so it will also provide to parents the option to make payments for school fees and other fundraising events and activities that have not previously been possible through School24.

Qkr! (by MasterCard) as an easy to use, secure phone app for making school payments from your mobile

phone. Qkr! will accept payment using ANY credit/debit card (except American Express) and has a simple

checkout function. No info is stored on the mobile phone. We are very confident that Qkr! will continue to provide parent convenience and enable the school to efficiently process payments. Please also note that the Qkr! solution does not charge parents a processing fee at checkout. The amount charged to the fee payer’s debit/credit card is the display price of products purchased eg $2.00 drink, $2.00 deducted from the debit/credit card. The last day that the canteen will be accepting orders through School24 will be at the end of Week 5, Term 4. Therefore, we encourage families not to top up their credit balances with large amounts and work towards reducing balances over the next few weeks. At this date, be advised that any parent balances below $10.00 will be not be refunded and will be recognised as a donation to the playground project. To redeem balances above $10.00 an EFT payment will be forwarded from the School if you do not wish to donate it.

CANTEEN ORDERING FROM NEXT TERM Corpus Christi is moving to Qkr! for canteen ordering commencing Week 3, on Monday 30 October 2017. For a two week period from Monday 30th October to Friday 10th November, both systems will be in operation. School24 will be phased out with the final day of School24 will be Friday 11th November. More information will follow in the next few newsletters early next term.

CANTEEN HELPERS Our thanks to the tireless crew who have worked throughout this term to assist in the preparation of lunches for the children. We urgently need additional volunteers for Term 4 to assist so the canteen remains viable and operates twice a week. Over the break, please give some serious thought to making yourself available just for one day this coming term. If 80 parents volunteered once next term – the canteen would be fully operational 2 days a week, every week for 10 weeks. Consider gathering a few friends and make a day of it. There is a coffee machine in the canteen or one volunteer can dash out and grab coffees for the rest of the team. Dads – could you spare a day and come along with some other school dads and have some fun? For the canteen service to be efficient we need 4 helpers (minimum) to prepare lunches and to serve with over-the-counter sales at recess and lunch. On a good day – the canteen prepares lunches for over 130 children. The canteen service is valued by parents and greatly enjoyed by kids!!! Please give it some thought. If we could get 60 to 80 names….wow!!!! The ice block season is approaching and it’s so good to see the children enjoying an ice block on a hot summers day!! Please email the school office with your name & phone number for one Tuesday or one Friday in Term 4. Send an email to [email protected] with “canteen helper’ in the subject line.

PARENTS TEACHING/LEARNING MORNING The Principal’s coffee morning for parents and presentations on teaching/learning in Mathematics and Literacy went well last week. There was a good roll up and some excellent questions asked by the parents who attended. We are going to repeat this session for parents in the evening in Term 4 for parents who were unable to get to the daytime sessions. That night time session will be Week 4, Wednesday 1st November at 7pm. Classrooms will be open afterwards for parents to visit.
