Teachers remain chained to the front of the class using a display as a prompt to guide learning while students around the room may not be able to see or hear clearly. During our session, we’ll explore how to break this chain and discuss why education has a lot to learn from the ‘theatre-in-the-round’ philosophy. Combining strategic leadership with practical teaching perspectives, we’ll share how Tottington Primary is developing a modern rounded approach which puts the teacher where they are needed most and enables every student to see and hear the lesson clearly — with no ‘cheap seats’. With amphitheatre design as inspiration, we’ll explain how innovative uses of existing EdTech can help to unchain the teacher, giving them flexibility to dynamically adapt teaching in the moment, gain valuable feedback on students’ learning and ultimately achieve rapid progress.

But how can we expect students to decide on a career path when they are disengaged with the advice they are receiving at school? Evidence proves that students who are able to link the importance of subjects to their own future goals are much more engaged overall. With improvements in attendance, test scores, and aspirations in mind and with guidance from the students themselves, we created Xello — an engaging online programme that builds self-knowledge, personalised plans, and critical life skills. Easily prepare your secondary school students for future success and watch the positive ripple effect across your school.

CAN CPD COMBAT RETENTION ISSUES AND OFFER A WELLBEING WIN?Teacher wellbeing is a welcome topic of conversation in education at the moment, and without doubt it is essential that leaders prioritise the health and wellbeing of their teachers. But how do we stop it from being just a conversation? Too often CPD feels like an extra burden on a busy teacher’s workload. However, the effective design and implementation of CPD provision that is tailored to the needs of the pupils and the teachers can be a part of the solution.

That’s an extraordinary effort which makes a huge difference to the lives of countless children in our schools. We will look at alternative and innovative income streams and how schools can introduce sustainable income generation into their culture. We will explore crowdfunding, alumni, donations, sponsorship and grant funding, developing a holistic and dynamic income generation approach that ensures regular and sustainable revenue can be generated by your school. We take a look at case studies of schools who have successfully harnessed ‘people power’ to attract funding towards a wide range of initiatives. The final piece of the puzzle is grant funding, and we shall explore the pitfalls and essentials of assembling a successful grant application.

It undoubtedly makes our lives more complex, whilst not always enabling us to see how it is having a positive impact. This session will unlock the mysteries of the evidence base for EdTech, highlighting why it is so challenging to answer that billion dollar question and provide some practical tools to help us all make more discerning decisions about what EdTech to use, when, how, and why. Along the way, insights will be shared of how some of the UCL EDUCATE companies have taken responsibility for such research, and by doing so earned their coveted EdWards.

We demonstrate innovative ways of using artificial realities such as virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and mixed reality for active, experiential learning, for example, 360 films of locations allowing pupils to develop empathy for environmental challenges in each other’s spaces. We show how collaboration is promoted when pupils design creative solutions for challenges they are jointly exploring. We have more examples of the creation of co-constructed digital artefacts to support collaboration between connected classrooms. This seminar will be followed immediately by a 45-minute guided safari to discuss the opportunities with the relevant EdTech companies.
