Corruption in Sports-Cricket• The International Cricket Council(ICC) itself is corrupt• There have been several claims by top cricket personalities

accusing Australia and India to be at the hub of match fixing but the ICC never bothered investigating into such claims

• Recently, Australian radio commentator Peter Roebuck was found dead a few days after he claimed that the recent South Africa v Australia test match was fixed and he had evidence to prove it – The ICC has not investigated into his claims

• The most recent corruption scandal in football involves Turkish side, Fenerbache who were charged for match fixing in June 2011

• Stripped off the Turkish title, relegated to lower league and team president and other officials involved arrested


• Italian football corruption scandal in 2006• Teams involved in match fixing and choosing

selected referees who were also involved• Juventus relegated to Serie B and stripped off

their championship title• Ac Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina fined

and had their points deducted

• South Korea, one of the weakest teams at the World Cup made it to the semi-finals after a string of poor refereeing decisions which saw South Korea eliminate heavyweights Spain, Portugal and Italy en route to the semi final

• There were cries of match fixing and biased refereeing from the likes of Spain and Italy but in the end there was no investigation and instead Fifa president, Sepp Blatter put it down to ‘poor standard of refereeing’

Conclusion

• Corruption can be controlled but it can NEVER be eliminated

• To control it, we MUST change ourselves instead of blaming the government
