Message from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Melbourne Cup a State wide Public Holiday
Please note that this coming Tuesday 3rd November, Melbourne Cup Day, will be a public holiday for schools in Victoria. No
students will be required at school on this day.
In addition School Council has endorsed that Monday (Monday 2nd November) should be designated a Curriculum Day and
again no students (other than those sitting the Further Mathematics Examination 2 at 9.00 am) are required at school on the
Monday. The General Office will be open during normal hours but teaching and most support staff will be involved in profes-
sional development and planning.
End of Year Attendance and End of Year Offerings
Research shows that regular school attendance results in higher levels of student engagement, school connectedness and im-
proved student outcomes. The Department of Education and Training has clear expectations that all students attend and fully
participate in school activities through to the end of the year.
Please take note of the following dates;
Year 11 students will be excused from school after the completion of their final examinations (Monday 16 th to Tuesday 17th
November) and attendance at the Year 11 into Year 12 Head Start Program (Wednesday 18 th November). Therefore the last day
for Year 11 students is Wednesday 18th November.
Students in Year 10 are required to attend school until Friday 4th December. (Work experience for the last week)After this date
Year 10 students may be excused from attending school if they lodge a request from their parent/guardian and is contingent on
the principal being satisfied that the student has suitable employment.
All other students will be required to attend school until the end of the school year – Presentation Evening. Following
Wednesday 16th December i.e. the Presentation Evening, cleaning and maintenance programs will dominate activities at the
school along with planning and final interviews regarding course selections for 2016.
One to One Computer Program at Corryong College in 2016
Corryong College has a policy to place a netbook in the hands of every Corryong College student in Years 5 to 12. The College
has identified the Dell Inspiron 11 Convertible-Hybrid netbook as the device that best suits our teaching and learning needs and
it also comes at a very competitive price. This netbook weighs in at about 1.5 kg and includes a touch screen that allows stu-
dents to use it as either a laptop or a tablet. It has a 4GB memory and a 500GB hard drive and comes with a 3 year onsite war-
ranty; this is a fantastic offer as normally these devices are sold with a one year return to base warranty if bought over the coun-
ter at any other retailer.
In addition to the hardware, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in partnership with Corryong Col-
lege will provide students and families with support to enable our students the opportunity to enter a new world of curriculum
possibilities, allowing engagement and involvement in their learning. Specifically this will include; on-site technical support,
free wireless internet at the College and all devices and batteries are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty covers
manufacturer’s defects and normal use of the device (It does not cover negligence, abuse or malicious damage).
All of the above will be provided to families through a lease system through the College at a cost of around $650.00 or $600.00
if a short lease is selected.
Enquiries for 2016 can be made through Janette Rixon at the Senior Campus office.
OH & S Safety Concern
Note that DET regulations state that NO student may bring a knife to school. This includes a knife to cut up lunch. Students will
need to borrow a knife from a staff member if they need to cut up their lunch.

Enrolments for 2016
The College is well under way in making plans for the curriculum it will be offering in 2016.The gathering of accurate enrolment infor-
mation is vital to the planning of classes, timetables and allotments at a school. Please ensure you inform the school sooner, rather than
later about your plans for next year if you are leaving the town or you intend to enrol a child at the College.
This is particularly important in a couple of year levels where elective numbers are approaching the maximum allowed under the teaching
agreement. In such situations schools may not be able to accommodate late enrolments as this requires the splitting of classes and the
corresponding allocation of further teachers and adjustments to the timetable. The whole process of advertising, interviewing and appoint-
ing a new teaching employee takes the best part of four weeks and cannot be expedited due to strict DEECD merit and equity procedures.
I would hate to have to turn a family away, even temporarily, because the school is unable to accommodate the enrolment of a new stu-
dent.
Corryong College is seeking enrolment information for ALL year levels for 2016 NOW!

Life Education November 13th November and Monday 16th November. Prep to Year 6.
As part of our drug and health education this term we are having the Life Education mobile classroom visit our
school on the 13th and 16th November. Life Education has been visiting our school for many years and is always a
highlight of the children’s year, and helps to facilitate the development of the life skills in students to prevent and
minimize the harm of drug misuse.
A separate notice was forwarded home re cost. The program costs $9.00. Please forward money to the school. This will enable your
child to participate.
Grade 3 Sleepover
Last week all the kids in Grade 3 slept over at school. Here are our Wow Words to describe it: Exciting, fun, awesome, fantastic, sleepy,
challenging and entertaining. Grade 3 sleepover was the best. We played at the park, went shopping for goodies, got really wet in the
water relays, played Murder in the Dark and watched a movie.
Thank you, Mrs Byrne, Mr Heycox, Mr Carter and Mr Barlee for organising things for us.
From, Grade 3.
Corryong College -
Music Students visited
the Nursing home to give
a small concert and en-
tertain the residents.
Mr Trevor Best and Mr
John Williams were de-
lighted with the effort
from all students.
The Nursing home
residents were foot tap-
ping and clapping along.
Thankyou to Jennifer
Fennell for taking these
lovely photos.
The songs we learnt to
play were; Home Among
the Gum Trees, Country
Roads, Old Thowgla and
some instrumentals.
Over the past three weeks we have had an incubator on and full of eggs. On Wednesday morning we had our first
little chicks hatch. Many people were excited and wanted to hold them but we couldn’t hold them until the next day.
A lot of people outside of our Ag science class said they wanted to join just so they could help too.
We have three types of chicks consisting of the Isa Browns we have at school, Bantams and Sussex.
Bantams are a naturally smaller breed of chicken. The hens are used for laying and can sometimes lay up 150 eggs a
year. A Sussex is a much bigger chicken. It can lay many eggs a year but they are also used a lot for meat.

The Corryong Op. Shop is managed by a committee and all proceeds from the shop are distributed equally to Corryong Col-
lege, Sacred Heart School and Corryong Pre-School. Last year Corryong College received $6000 via Parents’ Club from
the Op Shop and this year will be the same. This is a significant amount of money which is put to good use by Parents’
Club who purchase equipment, subsidise excursions and educational programs. A condition of receiving this money is that
each school provides volunteers to work in the shop. Each school has three voting positions on the committee. It is very
important that Corryong College meet the obligations in regards to the Op. Shop. Please consider volunteering a morning
or afternoon, as often as possible, to assist at the Op Shop. It is very easy and enjoyable, pair up with a friend or family
member, this is a valuable contribution to the school community. Please contact Kimb Heycox 60762493, Sally Permezel
60760529 [email protected] or ask at the office for an Op. Shop Volunteer Form.
