how do we do this?!

Link Search NOT in Google: Believe it or not, there are some searches that Google can’t do as well as others (gasp!). !!!A Link Search allows you to find pages that are linking to another page. Google can do this just fine, but when you add another word to the search, it does not work correctly. So instead, we’ll use the search engine Exalead (www.exalead.com/search)!!!The best profiles to look for are ones that link to a specific university, or engineering organization, or even other companies! The best thing about a search like this, is your “resume” keywords can be very simple. !

Page 71: Cost-Cutting (Free) Recruitment Practices!

By sending out messages regarding difficult jobs that you sourcing or recruiting for, you can enlist the help of your various networks.!1 The status messages that you send out will direct your audience to a particular webpage or a specific job on your careers portal.!2

3 There are tools that enable one message to be sent to many networks, which is a huge time-saver.

Example exercise of a social job posting!

what is the problem?!

Page 72: Cost-Cutting (Free) Recruitment Practices!

what do you need?!

Social networks like Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, Google+, Plaxo, etc. (setting these up once is worth it)!1 The public link to the specific job on your company’s careers page. We want to direct people here so that they apply through the job portal.!2

3 A URL shortener like bit.ly or tinyurl.com – we want to post the link to your job, but use as few characters as possible.

4 An automatic tool that links whichever social networks that you want to use for your mass postings – Yoono (a Firefox add on) or Friendfeed.

Example exercise of a social job posting!

Page 73: Cost-Cutting (Free) Recruitment Practices!

what do you need?!

You need to be able to convey your message in 140 characters. This is actually easy to do. The best people in staffing do this all day long!!1 The posting should have #hashtags related to the company or position. What are these #hashtags that we speak of? They are ways for users to find other similar posts by subject.!2

3 Here is an example post: Looking for hotshot storage architects! http://bit.ly/qBw5Kd Solutions specializing in archiving, index & search. #jobs #netpolarity !

how do we do this?!Example exercise of a social job posting!

Start by utilizing the social networks that you do have and signing up for useful ones that you do not have. !!Facebook – Large user base, very good for status postings!Twitter – Quick message postings that are broadcast in 140 characters!!Linkedin – Still the best business oriented social network!

1

Google+ – A new social network but is fast growing!!GoogleTalk, AIM, Y! Messenger – Chat programs that can be used to convey and broadcast your messages to the world.!

Page 75: Cost-Cutting (Free) Recruitment Practices!

how do we do this?!Example exercise of a social job posting!

Your social network are only as strong as your connections that you have. Make sure you connect with as many of the right people as possible. When talking to candidates or hiring managers, make sure you connect with them through Linkedin. !!The more people you connect with, the greater your network becomes. Even a small number of connections can lead you to many others. !!Make sure you at least sign up with the networks listed on the previous page. Connect with your friends, co-workers, candidates and hiring managers. !!Social networks like Myspace or Youtube are not recommended to sign up with, at least at this point (though corporations looking to hire Gen-Y candidates will often create video postings and broadcast them on YouTube). !

2

Page 76: Cost-Cutting (Free) Recruitment Practices!

In case you are using Internet Explorer as a web browser and still living in the stone age, here is the latest news: !!THERE ARE MUCH MORE POWERFUL BROWSERS LIKE FIREFOX AND GOOGLE CHROME THAT YOU SHOULD BE USING. !!•  Download either one and start to use it !•  It will increase your productivity!

•  You can customize your web experience!

•  You can use add-ons for powerful search tools !!One of the add-ons that we will talk about is called Yoono. This add-on will allow us to send postings to some, or all of our social networks. !

Once you have your FIREFOX or GOOGLE CHROME browser installed, then search for either “firefox add-ons” OR “google chrome add-ons” in the Google search engine. !!You should then be in the Add-ons or Extensions part of the website. You can search for any description of an Add-on that you would like to see. !!For our example, we are going to search for an extension called Yoono.!!The following screen shots show you how you would create a posting for publication to the social networks of your choice….!

how do we do this?!Example exercise of a social job posting!

•  Link to the job on your company’s website (use the bit.ly shorted URL that you copied)!

•  Grab the candidate’s attention (don’t put something boring, we want our message to be different from the others out there)!

•  Allow them to search for similar postings (use searchable keywords called #hashtags – these keywords can mean anything, but if you use ones that are company or job related, then you allow the candidates to search for more)As you type your message, this number lets you know how many characters you have left. Click update when you’re finished. You can update one network or all of them. !
