Day 2: San Jose to TortugueroThis morning’s welcome breakfast is a great time to get to know your guide and fellow travelers. Depart San José for Tortu-guero National Park, a region rich with wildlife and flora, and a birder’s paradise. This remote area is only accessible by boat! Located in tropical low- land forest with a system of rivers and man made channels running through primary forest, Tortuguero National Park is named for the Atlantic green sea turtles who nest here from July to September. The park is well populated with caiman, sloths, monkeys and a variety of tropical birds.

After you settle into your jungle lodge, meet for a kayaking trip through Tortuguero’s maze of canals, where nature lovers can observe the thick mangroves inhabited by a myriad of fascinat-ing wildlife, like monkeys, crocodiles, and iguanas.Accommodations: Aninga LodgeMeals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After your jungle boat expedition comes what is likely to be your children’s favorite part of the trip: pen pals!
