Program OverviewCosta Rica is a country rich in cultural and
biological diversity. The Costa Rica Primate Field School focuses on primate behavior, ecology, and conservation and engages the student in learning through study and real life experiences. Students will spend three weeks in Costa Rica, based primarily at the La Selva field station where they will conduct an original research project related to primatology. Participants will also learn about the Costa Rica’s biodiversity, past and present conservation programs, history and culture.
CoursesAll participants must enroll in the following
course for Spring 2015: ANTH 2083: Primate Ecology and Ecosystems (3 credits)
Please Note:All program excursions require an extensive amount of walking including stairs, hills and rough terrain.

May 9 to May 30, 2015(Final dates may vary slightly)
EligibilityParticipants must have a minimum GPA of
2.0 and be at least 18 years of age. The SLCC Study Abroad Application form and other forms must be completed by the appropriate deadline.
Pre-departure Orientations(to be arranged)
Participants are required to attend ALL pre-departure orientation sessions as well as ALL scheduled educational and cultural learning activities. In addition, students must complete all course requirements as assigned by the program leader. Parents, guardians, spouses, and guests are also invited to attend orientations.

LodgingTwo to four students will share a room
depending on the number of participants.

IncludedRound trip airfare from Salt Lake City to
San Jose airport transfers; lodging; program related excursions, transportation and entrance fees; and most meals. Not Included
Tuition; passport; visa fees; meals; laundry; personal travel and expenses; non-program related transportation; any miscellaneous items not specifically listed; gratuities.

* To make a payment, print the Costa Rica Primate Field School payment form, fill it out, and take the form and payment to the SLCC cashier’s window (be sure to tell the cashier the payment is for the Costa Rica Primate Field School). Bring one copy of the receipt to the Study Abroad Office and keep a copy for your records.
Cancellations/RefundsIf the trip is canceled prior to December
15, 2014, the deposit of $500.00 will be refunded in full. Further refunds for withdrawal from this program after the Application & Deposit Deadline, will be determined by the Field School Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees. Please see the complete cancellation/refund policy in the Study Abroad Handbook.
Financial AidMost financial aid (loans, grants,

PassportYou must have a valid
passport for the Costa Rica Primate Field School trip. A copy of your passport is due December 1, 2014 in the Study Abroad Office. A minimum of 8 students is required for the Costa Rica Primate Field School (12 students maximum). If you are seriously considering this Field School, turn in your application and a copy of the receipt for the $500.00 deposit (nonrefundable) to the Study Abroad Office, CT 214, by December 1, 2014.
