Design Review Sub-Council (DRsc) Report Computing Services Center Renovation -100% Design Development REVISED
On February 10, 2016 and February 24, 2016 the Design Review sub-council (DRsc) reviewed a request from Information Technology for renovation of the Computing Services Center at 100% Design Development. At that time the DRsc voted to approve the addition of new windows, however the rest of the proposal was not approved. On April13, 2016 the Computing Services Center was presented to the DRsc for revised 100% Design Development.
The revised proposal addressed DRsc concerns. At the new main entry on Spence Street, a new brick plaza will be created from the door to the edge of the sidewalk, and the paver color and palate will tie in to the nearby Engineering Activities Buildings. The field brick will be maroon pavers in a herringbone pattern, surrounded by a border of charcoal pavers laid in a soldier course pattern. A new canopy made of metal panels in a zinc gray color with matte black metal fascia will be added to the entry. The proposed new canopy would begin at about 12 ft. high and slope downward to about 9ft. high, extending through the entry doors and into the interior of the building. Two new sconces will be added to the walls on either side of the entry door.
Crepe myrtle trees will be planted on either side of the entry, flanked by gulf muhly grass, maiden grass, and Mexican feather grass. The intent is for the grasses to decrease in height as you leave the entry. The existing exterior brick and cast stone block will be cleaned on all four elevations of the building. New windows will be installed on the north and east facades in order to bring more light to the interior. Utilities & Energy Services will add exterior lighting near this facility, however it is not funded as part of this project.
Exterior material samples were presented, including the maroon and charcoal brick pavers, sample of existing brick color, gray and black metal panel for the canopy, and dark gray paint color for the exterior doors that will be repainted.
Recommendation DRsc members voted for approval of the Computing Services Center renovation as presented at revised 100% Design Development, with the following caveats:
