Council flattens kids’ bike track
by STEVE GRANT
WHEN Dexter Payenberg and his mates saw piles of mulch and a few pallets scattered about in a local park, their eyes lit up.
The adventurous 10-year-olds fashioned themselves a bike track through the bushy corner block, burying the pallets under mounds of mulch to make jumps, and soon the park was full of happy chatter and the occasional commiseration as someone came a cropper.
Parents couldn’t have been happier; their kids were outside, exercising, working together creatively and—best of all—having fun.
Happier“The kids were all dirty
and we couldn’t have been happier,” says Dexter’s mum, Nathalie.
But it took just one whinge from one neighbour to bring it all to an end: the City of Melville sent out a contractor who flattened the lot.
The kids are devastated and the parents are furious but the council CEO insists his staff had to act on “public safety concerns”.
“I could understand it if there were older children using drugs, but these are 10-year-olds,” Ms Payenberg told the Herald. “They’re good kids.”
Dexter had been so

proud of the track he’d asked his mum to have a look—and that’s when they saw the contractors move in.
“The council worker was nearly in tears when I spoke to him,” Ms Payenberg says. “He was really sad and said ‘this looks awesome’ and that he really wanted to get his own bike and have a go.”
She says the council needs to listen more to health experts who warn about the dangers of kids not having enough unstructured play and being too shielded from risk.
Council CEO Shayne Silcox admits the council acted after just one complaint—he refuses to say who, and what the
complaint was—but says the kids had also been “digging large holes”.
“On assessment, the unauthorised structures were deemed to present public safety concerns and the large holes deemed to be dangerous.”
He says the council is aware of the benefits of kids having unstructured
play in natural settings, mentioning—without irony—playground developments at the former Carawatha primary school site and Wireless Hill park.
Ms Payenberg says, without the mulch piles and pallets the kids are now jumping over the road verge, putting them in far greater danger from cars.

LOUIS ST JOHN JOHNSON turned 19 on the night he died in 1992, beaten unconscious on a Perth train by a group of four boys—girls looking on dragged off to a road and run over with a car.
A cyclist came across Johnson’s broken body, still breathing, and called an ambulance.
Despite the young Aboriginal man having suffered a shattered pelvis, perforated bowel, broken ribs and a punctured lung the ambos deduced he’d been sni ng glue and instead of taking him to hospital took him home, where he died.
When interviewed by police, the young murderer said he’d done it because Johnson was “black”.
The killer was sentenced to seven years and nine months in gaol: he rejoined society long ago. Johnson remains dead.

MELVILLE council is accused of allowing the fox to run the chicken coop by endorsing the controversial Southern Metropolitan Regional Council to run a $100,000 review of waste management.
Acknowledging the “perceived risk that if the SMRC are endorsed as the lead agency, that the review may not be conducted in an independent manner” the SMRC has promised to engage a suitably ualified independent
consultant”.Melville council endorsed the

professor Steve Mickler have
co-authored a book on the events surrounding Johnson’s death, A Boy’s Short Life. It was written with today’s young adults in mind.
“To let them read about people their own age,” says Haebich, who also authored the harrowing stolen generations book, Broken Circles. “So many of the views of Aboriginal people we had [22 years ago] are still around.”
Haebich, whose husband is Noongar, cites as an example young Aboriginal people not going out alone after dark. That was a lesson Johnson, adopted by non-Aboriginal parents, and growing up in middle-class suburbia, missed.
“Louis grew up in great love and wealth, but didn’t learn those tricks,” Haebich says.
Haebich and Mickler will talk about A Boy’s Short Life at New Edition 41 High Street, Fremantle, Wednesday August 27, 6pm.

Too young to die, too black to live
Cameron Schuster—a Melville councillor—moving the motion.
“You have got to be cynical when the chair of the SMRC puts forward the motion to conduct the review,” long-time SMRC critic and Leeming resident Rod Petterson told the Herald. “They can’t be trusted.”
Mr Petterson says the council tabled a review last year showing Melville would save $3.2 million a year by bailing out of the SMRC, which manages regional waste on behalf of a number of member councils (including Fremantle and Cockburn). Cost over-runs and persistent odour problems have bedevilled the SMRC for years.
Mr Petterson says a recent trip to Japan by senior council personnel to view waste-to-
energy facilities (incinerators) was a clear indication of council s desire to find a better and cheaper solution.
CEO Shayne Silcox, a member of the Tokyo delegation, predicts the SMRC will fail if Melville pulls out.
Fremantle mayor Brad Pettitt supports the SMRC conducting the review but wants the WA government to take over waste management.
The SMRC is conducting a strategic review of operations and has commenced a review of future alternative waste technologies. The review coincides with the remaining life of the waste composting facility and the date at which loan repayments to the WA Treasury Corporation are to be repaid.

TUG boat engineers say Fremantle Ports should have been on gale watch Sunday after wind speeds at Rottnest Island rose earlier in the day.
Fremantle Ports blamed a sudden wind gust about 10pm Sunday for pushing two ships into the already battered
remantle tra c bridge aptain Allan Gray says the bollard the ships were tied to gave way and sank after winds of up to 110kmh lashed the port. But the Australian Institute of Marine Power Engineers says the writing was on the wall by about noon when winds at Rottnest increased from 15 knots (28kmh) to 23 knots (43kmh).
“The harbour master should have had the tugs on gale watch,” national organiser Andrew Williamson told the Herald.
“Had a gale watch been put in place the crews on the tugs would have been on standby.”
Fremantle Labor MP Simone McGurk wants a full investigation into the incident she says could have been much worse. She says the harbour
master never issued a gale alert, despite heavy weather forecasts issued publicly throughout Sunday: “The gale alert means tug boat operators are required to be on standby at the port should they be needed at short notice,” she said in parliament this week. That alert wasn’t issued, which means that the tugs weren’t available, including at pm when the first vessel broke away.”
A third car carrier almost pulled away but by then tugs had been deployed to secure it in place. The two tugs in port at the time were partially staffed, but Fremantle Ports says even if they were fully staffed they would not have been able to get to the drifting ships.
Fremantle Ports says the harbour master was operating under a strong wind warning on the day, up to 30 knots or 56kmh.
“We didn’t have a gale warning because we weren’t expecting 110kmh winds,” spokesperson Ainslie de Vos told the Herald. “Usually winds will build up but this happened very quickly.
“Winds throughout the day were consistently below 20 knots right up to the adverse weather
event at which point the winds went to almost 60 knots.”
In parliament, discussion over the collision ended in a shouting match when Ms McGurk questioned transport minister Dean Nalder over the bridge’s safety.
She’d claimed Mr Nalder had effectively agreed that measures in place to stop marine vessels hitting Fremantle rail bridge were inadequate. Mr Nalder had said the shoal water in place to stop big vessels getting close to the rail bridge in storm surges had failed, against all predictions: “Our bridge systems alongside the Fremantle Port are inadequate, and dangerous,” Ms McGurk warns. “Mr Nalder continues to refuse to answer why the Barnett government took nearly $80 million allocated by the previous Labor government to a new tra c bridge for remantle, and instead have embarked on a series of expensive patch-up jobs on the fragile bridge.”
r alder s o ce says the primary focus is to get this rail bridge up and running again as quickly as possible. Herald sources say this could take up to a month.

WITH Westpac on track to post a billion profit this year, one local customer is wondering why the bank can’t throw a few dollars towards its ugly Palmyra branch.
“Wal”, a businessman who doesn t want to be identified in case it gets his account manager off side, says the place is now so run-down it’s dangerous as well as an eyesore.
For years he’s complained about sand and mulch spilling onto the footpath along Petra Street near Stammers, but this week he was gobsmacked to see what appear to be live wires, exposed by erosion.
“Palmyra’s demographic is changing and now there’s lots of families and mums with prams coming along there, so it’s quite dangerous,” he told the Herald.
He says mulch is mostly flic ed up by s of people using a business centre next to the bank, but says Westpace can’t just turn a blind eye.
Apart from the safety aspect, he says the bank should be ashamed of how it’s presenting
• al says estpac s Palmyra branc isn t ust ugly it s dangerousitself to customers and the community.
“I’ve worked in some pretty rough places in southern Africa, and really I can’t think of anywhere that looked worse.”
The bank’s sign is rusty, the verge hasn’t been mowed in months, huge puddles form in the carpark after rain and the only effort towards landscaping is the mulch, which is worn so thin it’s little more than a feeble
obstacle course for kikuyu.Westpac media manager
Supreet Thomas told the Herald someone would head straight out looking for the exposed wires.
She says the bank is restricted with what it can do as it’s only a tenant, but it’s been discussing improvements with the landlord.
A new sign is on the way and the bank will improve grounds maintenance.

Caring is complexI DON’T often feel the need to follow up on articles critical of our health service, but I feel strongly enough about “Our parents deserve better” (Herald, August 9, 2014) to do just that.
First and foremost, I hope Pat’s health continues to improve. I think it’s important for your readers to know I provided a detailed response to the journalist’s questions (none of which was included in the article), and, in my response, I said families and carers are entitled to believe their loved ones will be well looked after, but an understanding of the complexities involved is necessary.
Our nurses work very closely with our older patients and strive to successfully nurse a range of complex illnesses and health needs on a daily basis.
Often, patients are either acutely confused from their illness or have underlying aging-related conditions, so skill and patience is required when trying to establish these patients’ needs. Hospital teams are often successful in restoring health and independence to elderly patients, notwithstanding the fact that life cannot be indefinitely sustained and outcomes may not always be what patients and families desire.
Often saddened by the process themselves, nurses attend the dying and frail. Sometimes patients are coming to the end of their lives, and we do what we can to provide dignity and comfort.
• continued page 5
Ministers cluelessJENNY D’ANGER’S article, “Nurses too busy to nurse,” (Herald, August 16, 2014) struck a chord.
My wife is a nurse, she trained at Fremantle and worked there for many years, both as a permanent and agency nurse. She left frontline nursing 15 years ago for another branch of the same profession where she felt she could at least make a difference
Her complaint when she left Freo then was the same as now—there was little or no time for professional nursing where patient care, beyond doing the basics, was concerned.
Patient numbers were increased as were the levels of bureaucracy that made the wor more di cult and far less e cient t would appear that getting the attention of successive health ministers is nigh-on impossible. When questioned about patients being treated in corridors, lack of beds, lack of nurses and lack of equipment, the public is provided with the usual political anodyne speeches assuring us everything is truly wonderful.
I still question the wisdom of shutting down the emergency department at Fremantle upon the opening of Fiona Stanley Hospital, an edifice our political leaders appear to thin will be su cient to provide for the southern suburbs.
And as for handing a huge long-term contract to Serco for the provision of ancillary services, I am sure they will live to regret it just as numerous hospitals in the UK regretted it.
Quite frankly, our recent present and past health ministers have been totally clueless and more interested in their own political progress than medical matters.

Biker son beratedDESPITE numerous requests from both his father and myself to curb the noise and modify his riding behaviour, my P-plate motorcycle-riding son has refused.
We have told him he is not setting a great example for his four younger sisters and the many children who live near by.
Yesterday my son received an anonymous letter in the mail regarding his noisy motorbike and his riding behaviour in our suburb of Bibra Lake.
I would like to publicly thank our neighbour (as I have no address to do so privately) as maybe he will listen to your requests for peace, quiet and the safety of our community.
If you see that he has not listened to your courteous and matter-of-fact statements contained within your letter, please feel free to contact the police and have the matter dealt with accordingly.
It should be noted that both his father and I have our motorbike licences but in no way condone or are happy with his behaviour.

How did this happen?A HOUSE and land next to us sold as a nine-unit site has now been approved as an 18-unit three-storey unit site.
How can this be allowed on a small street? The number of cars using this street will be a catastrophe.
There will be no room for 36 rubbish and recycling bins on collection day on the footpath.
This has been approved without any consultation with local residents but we know from the Kitchener Road development there is nothing
Immediate action requiredTHE serious issues raised in the articles “Our parents deserve better,” and “Nurses too busy to nurse” (Herald, August 9 and 16, 2014) require immediate action.
Nurses never want to prioritise care in any way that leaves patients inconvenienced or uncomfortable, but the reality is that until the state government su ciently staffs and resources hospitals, that situation will occur.
Nurses are doing what they can with the numbers and resources they have, and their first ob is to keep patients out of serious harm, which they do.
If other services are taking a backseat, then health minister Kim
ames has to finally step up and actually ensure his portfolio is properly resourced with enough staff to deal with patient numbers, amid an environment of an ageing population.
WA nurses are providing exceptionally good care under increasingly demanding conditions, including, as recently reported, being regularly forced to care for extra “non-census” patients in corridors, which has certainly been occurring regularly at the subject of these articles, Fremantle Hospital. WA deserves better from its government.

we can do. The verge trees will probably have to go to make a central driveway and it is doubtful they will be replaced.
The rates the council now receive on the site alone is very much increased and yet it is still reluctant to plant trees to replace those that cannot now have any room on unit sites. Council verges are the only space left for the green lungs of the earth.
Decisions made by people at the top in council affect us all, especially the environment. If you look around the suburbs of Shenton Park, Peppermint Grove and Subiaco you will see councils that care about verge trees.

The Fly still has wingsWITH regards to Sunset Events being given the lease of the Parry Street drill hall, ending the tenure of the Fly By Night Musicians’ Club, it is hardly surprising a commercial provider was able to offer a lease on more lucrative terms than a not-for profit organisation
In some ways Sunset’s bid rides off the bac of the reputation of the drill hall as a great venue, which of course was built over the years by the Fly.
But the Fly By Night has always been more than just a venue: it’s a community, and I’ll give them whatever support I can to make sure that community continues, whatever building they operate from.

printing appears for the first time, but she e pects as technology develops there ll be a lot more in the future There s even some grass with dead patches, created by laying bac yard ob ects on them, to really give notions of printma ing a challenge
The prints now go bac into storage until the o cial opening eptember

COCKBURN, Melville, Fremantle and East Fremantle councils will share in more than $8 million in federal grants announced this week.
Cockburn will receive $3.6 million, Melville $3.2m, Fremantle just over $1m and East Fremantle $233,413. The money is from a $2.3 billion national pool, of of which WA gets nearly $283m.
“Councils are free to spend this untied grant funding according to local priorities, including for infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment and roads projects,” says WA Liberal senator Linda Reynolds.
LOCAL pollies Simone McGurk, Lynn MacLaren and Logan Howlett will join Save Beeliar Wetlands on a walk today, Saturday August 23, to protest the Roe 8 highway extension.
It’ll be preaching to the converted given they’re all on the record opposing the project, but there’ll be some real preaching soon with SBW in the throes of organising an inter-denominational blessing of the lakes—God v bulldozers.
The walk starts at 2pm at the corner of orrest and toc roads and will finish near the Cockburn Wetlands Centre where there’ll be an afternoon tea.

DEVELOPER Bruce Moriarty is confident he can salvage a deal with Fremantle council to buy one of its properties for an affordable housing project.
The sale of 7 Quarry Street threatened to collapse after the Abbott government scrapped the National Rental
ffordability chemeThe council believed it had tied the
scheme’s tax credits to its decision to sell to Mr Moriarty but his lawyers advised otherwise, saying point-blank the deal must go ahead, regardless of the government’s decision to scrap the NRAS.
Although the council’s own legal advice was ept confidential, it s li ely to have confirmed the developer s view, as council staff recommended giving him another crack at putting in a proposal with “equivalent” outcomes.
Mr Moriarty says a new proposal is in the o ng
“Our commitment remains to produce privately funded, innovating, diverse and affordable apartments predominantly for the rental market,” he told the Herald.
“CODA Studios have created a great design with seven one-bedrooms and 27 two-bedrooms under 77 square metres, capable of accommodating young families or two independent adults sharing.
“This is a product the Fremantle rental market is really lacking.”
HandballedThe council has handballed sorting out
the “implications of not receiving NRAS credits” to Mr Moriarty and will hope he comes good to save face.
A court appearance could be embarrassing for the council, given it had agreed to the sale on the basis of a business plan which claimed the property had been massively up-zoned, when it hadn’t. Council’s corporate services director Glen Dougall has previously refused to answer questions on how the
Land deal on despite scheme collapse
false information made its way into a publicly-released document.
He did acknowledge the council was aware a valuation it had relied on pre-empted a decision of WA’s planning minister by some months.
That apparently didn’t bother either the planning or local government ministers or their departments, despite the legal mire the council could end up in should there be a rezoning hiccup leaving Mr Moriarty paying more than the land’s actual value.
lanning minister ohn ay s o ce is adamant all questions should be directed to WA local government minister Tony
impson, who flic s uestions straight to department staffers They ve told the Herald that because the sale value is “below the threshold obliging the City to prepare a business plan, there is no compliance requirement”.
“The content of the City’s business plan is for the Council to consider,” continued the emailed reply, to which no-one was willing to put their name.

ARTSJENNY D’ANGER
BARACK OBAMA’S face beamed from the back of Fremantle artist Tania
Ferrier’s jacket, attracting plenty of attention in the southern states of the US as the president campaigned for a second term.
Not all of it was welcome: Ferrier reports that in an Elvis Presley-themed diner, “I got knocked to the ground by a white man in a suit”.
Having been elbowed to the ground Ferrier assumed it was an accident and was waiting for an apology, “[but] he just walked off Than you very much ot
Ferrier spent two years interviewing 33 Americans and 33 Australians from all walks of life for her “hybrid arts installation”, Talkback, exploring race and identity in both countries.
“It’s a look at blackness, whiteness and belonging,” Ferrier says. It has particular poignancy this week in the wake of the police shooting to death an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.
magnificent seven collaboration of people is behind
the exhibition (Ferrier, Laura Mitchell, Leslie Morgan, James Kerr, Americans Yulissa Morales and Mirla Jackson, and IT man Alan Thompson who ensures the high tech installations go off without a glitch).
Wandering through, you’ll hear occasional interjections from Martin Luther King and Tony Abbott.
Morales and Jackson linked up with errier after finding her lost purse: not only did they track her down through Facebook and post the wallet to Australia, they sweetened the deed with a box of chocolates.
When Ferrier headed back to the US the young women helped find interview sub ects, including an AIDS clinic manager, a teenager raising her brother and a couple of drug users.
Statistics in the US and Australia are similar when it
comes to the proportion of white and non-white people, as is the grim disproportion of non-whites behind bars.
“Fourteen per cent of the population is African/American and they make up 70 per cent of the prison population,” Ferrier states.
She’d intended to take a hard edge to the issues in mind, but her new young friends convinced her to ta e a different approach.
“They helped me look at it as more positive, aspirational.”
orales flew in for the exhibition: the Colombian/American says racism should be countered whereever it’s found but notes a gentle approach is more likely to win people over.
“No matter what perspective you come from you can look at this [exhibition] without feeling attacked,” she says.
With comfy chairs to sit on, visitors are invited to take their time: to look and listen and absorb another’s point of view, Ferrier says.
Talkback opens today at the Heathcote Gallery, Applecross and runs till September 21.

herald at homeby CAMILLE VISSER
PERCHED at the top of quaint Agnes street in Beaconsfield the only
thing more inviting than this 1903 semi-detached cottage is the elevated view of the ocean.
This two bedroom/one bathroom Federation home offers far more than what you would expect from a semi-detached, with size being far from an issue.
SkylightsWalking through the front
door you are greeted with well-preserved high ceilings, decorative roses and jarrah floors which give away its ancestry.
However, a neat modern addition is skylights, which combine with the white walls and ceilings to provide a warm and natural light so often missing from character homes.
The main bedroom overlooks the classic front timber verandah and a low-maintenance patch of garden.
This wonderful flooding of sunlight continues throughout the home, and the kitchen benefits the most because of the full-length bi-fold doors opening onto the back garden. The light helped to warm the stone flooring, and with
spacious benches for food prep, it’s the perfect place for entertaining—especially in warm snaps like we’re having now.
I was impressed by the size of the back yard, and particularly the magnificent poinciana tree which offers some sprawling shade.
The large rectangular lawns is framed by some tidy plants—I’d probably add a few—and all on a healthy 590sqm.
Tucked up in the corner of the garden is a teenage pad/shack featuring a laundry and plenty of potential for a renovation, perhaps even a
second level to get some ocean views.
There’s been a resurgence in love for the outside loo courtesy of Fremantle’s heritage festivals, and this home has one sure to attract attention with its bright red door and arched brickwork.
The locals are friendly, and crafty, and Agnes St is full of colour for the annual Airing of the Quilts come November.

HOW TO ENTER
Competition closes 26.8.14 with winners announced in the 30.8.14 edition of your Herald.
Your resting metabolic rate drops two to three percent every decade after the age of 20, typically due to a loss of muscle mass. When you do the math, this means a four to six percent slower metabolism in your 30s, and this trend continues as you age. By continuing to build muscle in the gym, you can keep your metabolism at its highest possible level, regardless of your age. Don’t worry though, we’re not talking Schwarzenegger muscles, just a healthy level of toned body muscle.
Strength training is regarded as the most effective way to boost your metabolism as it helps you to build and maintain muscle. Muscle mass is terribly important and is the only significant element of metabolism that can be changed for the better.
The benefits of physical exercise are becoming better understood – however we sometimes lack the motivation to commit to a healthier lifestyle. A common way to remain motivated is to exercise with friends, or to join a gym with likeminded women who feel happy and nurtured in a safe and friendly gym such as Angelic Fitness.
By increasing your overall activity, doing weight bearing exercises and aerobic fitness you can achieve the following health benefits: Increased heart/cardiovascular health, Increased neuro-protection. Some evidence suggests it reduces the risk of developing Dementia by increasing the blood & oxygen flow to brain, Increasing chemicals like Endorphins that help cognition and mood, Improved sleep,
Increase in bone density and bone mass, Increase in physical strength, Weight loss and toning, Increased sense of accomplishment and self esteem, Improved posture and balance, Increased metabolism – you burn more calories when you increase muscle mass!
So, why don’t you make a commitment to yourself and your health today by joining the other happy gym ladies at Angelic Fitness!
Why you need to lift weights, especially if you’re a womanWin a 6 month gym membership at Angelic Fitness

WIN ONE OF TEN 10 CLUMSY EMUS BOOKS signed by Wendy Binks
As a self-publisher of children’s books, Wendy Binks is a rarity.
A best-selling book in Australia, Germany and the UK is categorised by having sold over 10,000 copies. Wendy’s first book ‘Where’s Stripey?’, has sold over 75,000 copies to date, and her others are almost as successful.
So why would Wendy change tack and illustrate a book for a mainstream publisher? (in this case Scholastic).
The Herald has 10 signed copies of ’10 Clumsy Emus’ to give away.
Wendy is also giving her fans the chance to win a limited edition print valued at $350 from both her stores in Fremantle, after 9th August. For more information visit www.wendybinks.com

ARIES (Mar 21 – Apr 20)It’s as clear as a bell that it’s time to dig a little deeper. Whether it’s digging deeper
into what you have to off er, or digging deeper into what you have to understand, all the cues are there. Take the hint and make the move. Skimming across the surface isn’t delivering full satisfaction.
TAURUS (Apr 21 – May 20)The little brush with truth that you’ve had, has made it clear that there’s some
letting go to do before you can fully rejuvenate. Understanding helps us attune to the currents of life and cause ourselves less friction. There’s no need to force anything. Alone-time helps breed strength.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21) This is a moment to stand strong and proud. Flex your spine. Have a dance
that fi res off some good feelings in your heart - about who you are and what you’ve been doing. Thought there may be a temptation to get pulled into a current of unhelpful emotion, don’t entertain it at all.
CANCER (June 22 – Jul 22)This is a new Moon week. That means it’s the end of one phase and
the beginning of another. The tone is determined by where the Sun is; which is in Virgo. The best way to understand Virgo is to see it as a metaphor for virgin nature; a garden, or a forest. Renew the natural order.
LEO (Jul 23 – Aug 22)Even thought the Sun is wandering off into the fi elds of Virgo, this is a
special time for you. Venus and Jupiter, both of whom have grown manes and are growling like aristocrats, are fuelling you with light, confi dence, strength and bravado. Aspire to your deepest wishes.
VIRGO (Aug 23 – Sept 22)The Sun is moving into Virgo. This brings warmth and light – and an added push to
stay true to any virtues you won’t compromise. The Moon is moving into Virgo too, making this a time of ending and renewal. After the night, comes the renewal of dawn. Trust the process you are in.
LIBRA (Sept 23 – Oct 23)Life is providing the kinds of changes required to get you on track with the
authenticity of your most essential wishes and dreams. Sometimes we have to wait for the opening of doors that we can’t control. Life is full of compassion for our spirit, if not always our egos. Stay true.
SCORPIO (Oct 24 – Nov 21)Be as alert as a samurai and as patient as Job. This combination
of energies, brought to you by Mars and Saturn, has the capacity to wake you up out of any existential sleep you might happen to be in. Living demands urgency, not forgetfulness and apathy. Doors can open through this.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 – Dec 21)This is a transformative and healing time. The curious thing is that most of the action
is going on under the surface, out of sight of the conscious mind. If we knew what was going on, we’d get in the way of it. Life is recalibrating your engine, refuelling your appetite for life. Assist it.
CAPRICORN (Dec 22 – Jan 19)If, when life is turning things around, we fall too heavily into doubt, we extend our
suff ering. It’s important to fi nd ways to stay steady in self-esteem, when the going gets tough. Give yourself kudos. To depend on external witnesses doesn’t always help. Be very proud of who you are.
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 – Feb 18)Though your impatience would have you making changes, or moving on, the reality is
life is holding you in one place, to further hone your skills and deepen your mastery. Plateaus are important. One has to cross them with understanding and awareness. Don’t jump the gun.
PISCES (Feb 19 – Mar 20)Relationship is the ultimate mirror. In intimacy we are privileged to see things
about ourselves that we can’t really spot anywhere else. Life is feeding you with realness and delight. This is washing away illusions. Don’t be afraid. Truth is better than the dream. Take a broad view.
