J9-2TC COUNCIL FROM PAGE ONE was awarded to Pala- sota Construction of College Station for the project, but the work has not been completed because Palasota of- ficials say there is not enough secure base material on the roads to properly rebuild the road and to ensure that it can get a warranty. Segundo said Palasota had requested a change order of up to $120,000 to get a secure base and rebuild the road. Segundo said prior to the meeting that the city believed the change order was too high. The council met with Palasota, his attorney Steven Hollis and Jer- emy Peters with Gess- ner Engineering of Col- lege Station in a called meeting on Tuesday, July 7, to discuss the issue. The city’s engineer on the project, Strand As- sociates of Brenham, also offered comments. The council met in executive session for about 50 minutes and decided in open ses- sion to proceed with what was decided in the closed session. No other details were provided. Council members also heard complaints at the July 7 meeting from some Anita Heights residents concerning materials left in the neighborhood, impact- ing their property and access. Segundo said prior to the Tuesday, July 14, meeting that the council would discuss and consider paying for a 4-inch limestone base in an amount not to ex- ceed $50,000 to address Palasota’s concerns. Regarding Chief Wise, the agenda stated the council could in execu- tive session consider hearing a complaint or charge against a public officer, or deliberate the “appointment, evalua- tion, employment, du- ties, reassignment, dis- cipline or dismissal of a public officer.” In both listings, the police chief is listed as the public officer. Wise has come un- der criticism in recent weeks from Mayor Micheal Bradford and some community mem- bers. Other agenda items for July 14 included a resolution nominating a candidate to repre- sent the city on the Burleson County Ap- praisal District Board, authorizing Segundo to begin the process of renaming Avenue P and awarding a two-year contract extension with HDU Services, LLC, for operating the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants.
